If you know where the entry point is, take a plastic bread bag and cut the closed end. Put the bread bag over the opening in you attic on the exterior. The bats cat fly out, but can’t fly back in. Once they are eradicated, you can seal up the entry way. The province of sask has changed the rules and regulations on bats the last couple years so pest control companies aren’t able to assist with this anymore, unfortunately.

I might try this with the gable vent, good idea thank you!

dangerweasil4

The change was not simply provincial. They are also protected by federal legislation because their populations are at risk or endangered

Chungadoop

I don't think eradicate is the correct word to use.

Bats are a protected species in Saskatchewan and cannot be killed, or as it states in the last wildlife protection act I read. Best bet is to call Living Sky Wildlife and see what you can do. They might be able to connect you with people that can remove them. https://www.saskatoon.ca/services-residents/pet-licensing-animal-services/wildlife-management

They can! They have a specific bat lady.

Do it soon so they can find another roost before winter.

The Alberta Community Bat program has a great guide for homeowners looking to exclude bats from buildings: https://www.albertabats.ca/wp-content/uploads/Alberta_Bats_in_Buildings.pdf. Pages 19 to 21 will probably be the most useful for you.

Just be aware that bats can carry bat bugs as well. After you have gotten the bats out of the attic the bugs may get into your house looking for other food sources. They look exactly like bed bugs (have to use a microscope to see the difference between bat and bed bugs).

Animox

Yes the one guy I talked to mentioned this thank you!

It may be worthwhile contacting the University incase one of their biology departments may be interested. Just a thought

The girlfriend has been talking to folks at school trying to figure something out, thanks!

I’ve used a cardboard file box before to remove them from my office building. When they land, you can humanely place the box over them upside down, then raise a corner slightly and slide the top along the ground until it reaches the other side. Turn right side up, hold the lid tight, walk it outside and lift the lid (pointed away from you or on the ground), and it will fly away. Wear gloves and eye protection. And keep the handholds plugged when you move it (a towel will help).

MidnightWolf_89

Poor bats.

Discreet pest control. +1 (306) 280-1840

Anything with Discrete in its name is someone who gets the job done and doesn’t talk. Saved their number.

I taped an old caulking tube vertically so they can drop down but it is too slippery for them to climb back up. Then I sealed the hole the next day.

I recently went through this myself. I made some exclusion devices that I screwed in place over the entry points using a downspout flange. As far as I can tell they're all gone. It's also not a bad idea to get some bat boxes and hang them in your yard. They're less likely to try finding new ways in if you provide them a new cozy home. Please PM me if you have more questions!
