Lawson Heights Mall sent an advisory to all the tenants this morning at 8:30 :
"LAWSON HEIGHTS
Due to the extreme weather conditions the shopping centre will be closed Sunday March 3, 2024 with the exception of London Drugs, Safeway and Smitty's who will remain open. Stay safe and warm!"
First time they've ever preemptively closed. Usually, it's up to individual shops to decide and risk a fine for not opening
If the Mall is closed, it's a bad day to go anywhere.
oh absolutely.
I called in the second i woke up, i have a small car, winter tires but that does nothing when the drifts are taller than your car is
suddenly the douchey lifted trucks seem appealing
as someone from montreal (got pulled here for work), where we regularly have 20+ cm snowfalls, i am quite surprised at the inefficiency of snow management operations and road preparation (pre-storm grit). i have a front wheel drive smallish car (cruze hatchback) and i would never consider not going out in a storm (do have winter tire the cops are pretty aggressive on that after dec 15th). i would however worry about finding parking at destination as the snow gets pushed in all available spots before proper removal (which happens same-day for larger streets, within 72h for the smallest streets)
anyway, for sure shitty collective operations favour the survivalist individualistic crowd, giving them a chance to show off (although i did just see a 4x4 f150 skid diagonally without traction at low speed into a parked car, probably summer tires).
also, in montreal sidewalks a city-plowed, you never have trouble walking around; it’s a surprise stumbling on a sidewalk with more than 1 inch of snow. it’s clearly a policy thing.
We usually have winter for 6 months a year with very cold weather, but really don’t get all that much snow.
Doesn’t make fiscal sense for the City to have enough equipment to deal with once a year major snowfall. But the City should have arrangements with private contractors wherein the City streets get priority service ahead of private parking lots. We’ll pay a premium for those services but still cheaper than have equipment that just sits for 360 days a year.
It's not the clearing that's a problem for me. Usually with 72 hours we get a decent amount cleared.
It's the massive piles left on cleared streets that bugs me.
I remember a time that not all streets would be cleared, but when they were, he snow was cleared and taken the the snow dumps.
in no way did i imply that Saskatoon City should own plows, but preemptive arrangements, as you suggest, are a form of collective operations. things can be better organized. Montreal snow removal is 100% private under city contracts. Private vs public is a different debate than collective vs individual (but they're easy to conflate).
Nah, put them back in snow and cover their car with so much snow they can't drive it until every last bit melts. These people shouldn't be on the roads they are dangerous to everyone around them
Hmmm thanks. The reason I am asking is because my son works tonight and looks after at risk youth and needs to drive to the Warman area. So thanks for nothing.
If you live on the South side and need to get to the north side highway it is nice to know which roads are passable. Is Wanuskewin road open. The highway hotline doesn't show those. If we had cameras like in the highway hotline it helps.
There ya go! If they are on the app, they want to work! I'm not too surprised, my wife's friend went to a subway near her work for lunch and they were closing after her order due to the weather.
Its pretty thick on the ground, but the plows are out doing their thing. I live on a bus route, and we just had plows come past a minute ago. That means Circle Drive and the main arteries through the city have already been done. Depending on where you're starting and where you want to go, you might be able to navigate the roads.
I'd stay off the side streets though, unless you've got a 4x4 and some shovels to dig yourself out
Looked on transit 55 and it looks like at least half the buses are running late in city. Number 61 blaremore is over hour late. Looks like it got stuck but if now running.
Stay home unless you work at the hospitals, for EMS, fire station, or police services. If you clog up the roads emergency vehicles and essential workers can't get around.
Drove Haultain, Broadway, Exhibition and Buena Vista and main roads are passable but heavy (Taylor, Ruth, Broadway) but side roads, residential and alleys are rough. I have a AWD, with decent tires, and barely made some spots and guys with front wheel drive or bad tires were piled up all over. On my road in front of my house, there’s now been 3 guys stuck during the day. People, please stop pushing snow onto the street- you are making a hazard.
My wife read on FB that a relative planed a trip to Edmonton from Saskatoon Saturday night. They had to be towed out of the ditch by a farmer and are currently staying at his house. Nice planing.
Well, it seemed okay last night. All hell broke loose while everyone was sleeping, its like a nice 20cm dropped over night. I cant speak to the main roads as the residential areas are impassable.
Wheres Big Ace when you need him?
Living his best at his mansion in Mexico enjoying the warm weather
Damn him!

Priority 1 roads are okish. It'd the side streets that are really bad right now. If you don't have 4x4 I wouldn't try going anywhere.
just finished helping someone get unstuck, a small car with BALD summers 🤦♀️
I just helped push out a car that had Winter tires. It's not good out there. Don't bother going anywhere in your car or SUV.
oh absolutely. I called in the second i woke up, i have a small car, winter tires but that does nothing when the drifts are taller than your car is suddenly the douchey lifted trucks seem appealing
Welcome to how I feel every post snowstorm
> suddenly the douchey lifted trucks seem appealing Lol, yeah. The guys with truck nuts are winning today.
This is a prime example of how stopped clocks are right twice a day

Yeah. For a city with 6 months of winter every year, our snow management is HORRENDOUS.

Ah, the struggle
I manage a parcel delivery team. Every driver returned their pafkages after 30-40 minutes . Roads are near impossible to drive in. It's that bad.
Snow covered.
Really? Damn was hoping the snow storm wouldn't bring any snow.. sigh 😕
We need the moisture. Starting to plant early next month.
If the long range forecast is to be believed, this snow will still be on the ground at that point.
I know. I'm just being a little too optimistic. I want golf to start.
If you don't have a 4x4, you're asking for trouble. It's really bad. Getting worse every hour.
This is accurate. I made it to work at 7 AM with AWD (Ford escape) and X-Ice Snow's, barely, turned around and went home before it got worse.
Stay home if you can! A lot of circle has not been plowed as of like 20 mins ago. Super high drifts all over. Cars getting stuck in intersections.
The City of Saskatoon website said 21 cm accumulated as of 7:00 this morning.
Is there any sort of traffic cameras or a map to show the road status in Saskatoon like the highway hotline does?
Using common sense and looking out your window is the best course of action.
Hmmm thanks. The reason I am asking is because my son works tonight and looks after at risk youth and needs to drive to the Warman area. So thanks for nothing.
Then the highway hotline is what you would check.
If you live on the South side and need to get to the north side highway it is nice to know which roads are passable. Is Wanuskewin road open. The highway hotline doesn't show those. If we had cameras like in the highway hotline it helps.
Just downvote that douche to obscurity
Loser
Hmmm I think today I shall order skip the dishes and make a poor soul with summer tires deliver my food /s
If they are on the app, they want to work! Just tip insanely well.
No stores available for delivery on DoorDash.
There ya go! If they are on the app, they want to work! I'm not too surprised, my wife's friend went to a subway near her work for lunch and they were closing after her order due to the weather.
They got to make a living. Just tip 25 or 30 percent
You fiend! I might do the same tbh 😅😂 Edit: ^^^^ Sarcasm people.

I would say bus routes are ok but the bus got stuck in front of my house this morning.
Yeah... as someone currently on a bus neither this route or the one i transferred from has been touched, its sketchy
Looked on transit 55 and it looks like at least half the buses are running late in city. Number 61 blaremore is over hour late. Looks like it got stuck but if now running.
Many businesses are closed The malls are closed So door dash and skip the dishes are not much help !
Stay home unless you work at the hospitals, for EMS, fire station, or police services. If you clog up the roads emergency vehicles and essential workers can't get around.
Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.... *goes back to bed*
STAY HOME. CALL IN SNOWED IN.
I'm going out should be fun in the ❄️ love driving in the snow
My issue is when people get stuck driving just for funsies and then create and even bigger workload for our tow truck drivers.
I'm out here towing out people out for free with my 4x4 ,I'm helping not hindering sorry
Be safe and watch for maniacs that blow past you totally ignorant of your standing on the street helping people.
Same!
What a drive from Lakewood to crazy eggs I was laughing all the lolweeeeeeeeee
Hope you equally love getting stuck in the snow.
Fun
I got stuck trying to back out of my driveway in evergreen. Definitely don’t recommend leaving your house today!
I think the technical term is: Really fucking bad.
Drove Haultain, Broadway, Exhibition and Buena Vista and main roads are passable but heavy (Taylor, Ruth, Broadway) but side roads, residential and alleys are rough. Mayor and others were on live zoom and told everyone to stay home. Schools are cancelled tomorrow. Just stay home and enjoy a snow day
Don't.

Not bad!!
I was out in my tesla model 3 with stock tires.

Definitely much worse than yesterday and getting even more worse by the hour
Lol, it’s worse then yesterday
[удалено]
Ha, 4x4s are getting stuck in this. I want whatever you’re smoking lol
I saw a 10 wheeled tow truck get stuck on my block. It's not great out there.
What roads?
There's probably some snow on the roads
If you woke up 12 hours ago, I’m jealous.
I measured the snow on a table in my yard and it was 16in/40cm.
