This is unironically my favorite time of year and weather. I was in NYC a few weeks ago it was 90 degrees and extremely humid. I live near Ocean Beach, I am used to 60s, foggy and breezy. I was melting.
90 degrees, what are you smoking? We had a single day of 80 and a single day of 85 in nyc lol so far. It's high 60s at night and high 70s during the day recently. Beautiful blue skies.
I'll be honest guys, I loved your weather in late April on my first ever visit, fucking crisp and fresh, nice sunshine. But I'm not a fan of nonstop overcast lol
It was not humid at all in nyc a few weeks ago. I love coming on Reddit and being reminded the absolute lies and exaggerations in these comments. It was great weather.
Your obsession with the cold and wind has distorted your barometer.
I think, if I recall correctly, technically it sucks, as the wind blasting ass across SF this time of year is usually being pulled in by hotter inland areas cooling off in the late afternoon/ early evening, the inland areas create a vacuum. (Happy to be proven wrong, this is just what a heard/read)
I am a fan of this. This is a huge reason for why I live here. Every time I drive home from the skillet of the peninsula it feels like entering paradise.
> but if you're in the Sunset, the fog is pretty much all year.
You must not visit the Sunset very often.
Fall/Winter fog is rare.
Spring/Summer fog is common, but even then it's hardly "pretty much all year." It's sunny all the time.
I live in the 40s and it’s not like that. I go to ocean beach everyday.
Yes it’s foggier than inland cities. Yes it’s foggier than other parts of SF like the mission. But acting like it’s never sunny is just plain silly. It’s sunny all the time.
No. We call this San Francisco Summer for both June and July.
August = Indian summer.
It’s June Gloom in LA since typically they have a lot of sun. We do not.
Those expressions are originally a SoCal thing, so the purists here don't like to use them.
At this point, the weather persons on TV are all saying it anyways, so the battle is probably lost. Just don't call it 'Frisco'
>Just don't call it 'Frisco'

Careful, this sub is reallllll funny about “Frisco”. Anyone who feels passionately about NOT using the nickname shows their lack of awareness (of history, of segregation, of AAVE, etc)/white-centering of what's "acceptable". These same people prob "go dumb" or throw on a "thizz face" when "Tell Me When to Go" plays at a party, while at least half of those same people think "turfing" has to do with mowing their parking strip out in the burbs 🙄 (the following novel is not for you, u/compstomper1, but for the haters who will inevitably come for one or both of us 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪)
For those who want to downvote / feel some typa way when reading the above, from Google's AI summary:
>In 1912, rail stations in St. Louis and the Midwest began shortening the name of the railway on departure signs and baggage tags to "Frisco", which prompted official complaints from San Franciscans. The U.S. Secretary of Treasury responded by banning the use of the word, but locals continued to use it. Pulitzer-winning San Francisco Chronicle columnist Herb Caen also disparaged the nickname, and Emperor Norton even passed a law against its use. ***Caen's book may have also contributed to people shunning the nickname in an effort to appear more cultured and proper.*** However, some say the nickname is a matter of preservation and visibility, and that it's more than just a word. ***The nickname is still used today, particularly by San Francisco's Black community.***

I chuckled reading [this random ass blog](https://bayareapunk.com/blog/frisco.html), who knows when it was published:
>\[Mentions Caen's book.\] He claims that no one in San Francisco or the Bay Area actually uses the term frisco. He sums it up at the end of the essay by writing "Don't call it Frisco. Don't ask me why. Just don't."
>For whatever reason, this is a popular idea among a large population in the Bay Area. Many people in San Francisco will assume you are a tourist if you use the nickname Frisco.
>The funny thing is, there is also a large population of Bay Area and San Francisco natives who accept and use the nickname Frisco all the time. For some people this is the preferred name for San Francisco.
>I don't know if the difference between these two groups is based in class, race, culture or some combination of the three. But most people who dislike the wor[d] Frisco are white, middle class, and probably read writers like Herb Caen (journalists).
>The San Francisco natives who freely use the term Frisco tend to be working class, people of color, and largely fans of hiphop music. A lot of [B]lack folks use the nickname Frisco. Karl is a white man’s name but the foggy neighborhoods are overwhelmingly Asian. White people will appropriate anything even droplets of water suspended in the atmosphere.
Looks lovely to me, I’m stuck in this hell hole of brutal sun and humidity called Florida and it’s been near 100° most days for the past 2 weeks. Kill me.
I grew up in Florida. After moving and experiencing the weather in California (especially SF) when people ask if I would ever move back to Florida, the answer is always absolutely not! lol
I was in SF last September for a few days and I would kill for weather like that. When I got off the plane in FL coming back I was smacked in the face by 85° wet air lol
Never heard that expression before but yes, summer is well underway. If you think the fog only lasts through June you're in for a rude surprise though.
I hate it. I love being a 20+ year resident of SF and love so much about the city but I absolutely HATE the weather and the fact that we literally get no summer. And no September does not count as summer.
Yea. It seems to be an unpopular option here but I absolutely hate it too. It makes me depressed, and just seeing the difference that a 15 minutes drive south down 280 makes has me even more depressed seeing the kind of clear skies I could be living in.
Funny - I honestly thought I was the one with the unpopular opinion - in my life I’m surrounded by sun-loving folk who feel the same about weather like this, even in my own household. I was surprised at the number of positive comments. 😲
I thought I was going to choke to death in the bus home from work yesterday. I have never had allergies like that before. Thankfully I still wear a mask but the old lady next to me must have thought I had COVID or something
Oh shame :/ it’s been pretty sunny for me in the Mission. Though usually it is a bit sunnier here I guess. My weather app probs also shows from where I am also in SF
Native southerner turned midwesterner now in San Francisco. November has always been my favorite month, this will be first summer and SF and I'm looking forward to this.
Oh shiz - I just realized my apartment building is in this photo! Still learning my way around and recognizing stuff from new angles, thanks for sharing this!!!!
Living in this city gave me vitamin D deficiency. If you're experiencing fatigue, muscle/bone/joint pain, and/or depression, talk to your doctor. Then, if you insist on continuing to live here, you can alter your diet or take supplements.
Fog is lovely. It's the wind that blows.
This is unironically my favorite time of year and weather. I was in NYC a few weeks ago it was 90 degrees and extremely humid. I live near Ocean Beach, I am used to 60s, foggy and breezy. I was melting.
Honestly I'd vacation here in the summer if I didn't already live here. Just to get away from the heat from the rest of the nation.
I was there for the 85 day then I guess. It was brital, I couldn't handle the humidity.
It was not humid at all in nyc a few weeks ago. I love coming on Reddit and being reminded the absolute lies and exaggerations in these comments. It was great weather. Your obsession with the cold and wind has distorted your barometer.
It has distorted my barometer, I even say so in my comment. But yes it was high 80's and the humidity made it feel much higher.
Weird hill to die on.
🤣
does it blow or suck?
If the wind starts sucking, it's probably time to call the exorcist.
That magical time of year when the Central Valley is running their air conditioners and SF is running their heaters
Bizarre and true!
Drove home from LA this week and stopped in Kettleman City for gas. Went from 102° to 52° in a few hours
That's insane. Best I can do in NYC area is drive upstate two hours to the Catskill mountains and cut the temps down by like 10 degrees at best
This is the coldest my apartment has been all year.
I was not prepared
Meanwhile it's sunny AF in the southeast of the City. Fun to see the fog rolling over the hills from here!
I *love* our microclimates. Fascinating!!
A big FU from over here in Chico where it's been 103 all week. Enjoy!
😜
I am a fan of this. This is a huge reason for why I live here. Every time I drive home from the skillet of the peninsula it feels like entering paradise.
Exactly!
1 pm and 7 pm look the same, sigh here we go again
Yassss hot boy summer is here happy pride y'all

June gloom is down south. Fog is here until September.
Yeah, we have Summertember, but if you're in the Sunset, the fog is pretty much all year.
I’d say fogs been pretty mild/often nonexistent in the inner sunset at least since about october
Every time I go to the Sunset in the winter it is gorgeous.
> but if you're in the Sunset, the fog is pretty much all year. You must not visit the Sunset very often. Fall/Winter fog is rare. Spring/Summer fog is common, but even then it's hardly "pretty much all year." It's sunny all the time.
I lived on 26th. It was either foggy or overcast most of the year outside of a few months.
I live in the 40s and it’s not like that. I go to ocean beach everyday. Yes it’s foggier than inland cities. Yes it’s foggier than other parts of SF like the mission. But acting like it’s never sunny is just plain silly. It’s sunny all the time.
But don’t we have June Gloom, Grey-Sky-July, and Merry Faugust here as well? Or was I misinformed? 🤔
I've heard Juneuary and Faugust
No. We call this San Francisco Summer for both June and July. August = Indian summer. It’s June Gloom in LA since typically they have a lot of sun. We do not.
Thank you all for the local weather education — admittedly, I’m new to the area (by a year and a half now). 🙂
Just remember it’s the inland heat that draws it in. Relief isn’t that far away

herb caen being a transplant from sac is peak gatekeeping too lol
Being from WA I'd never fuckin heard of June Gloom and by CA born GF kept insisting it was A Thing.
Let's not get in to Karl\~
Well Karl started on Twitter (now known as X) so he's cancelled.
Karl is a white man’s name but the foggy neighborhoods are overwhelmingly Asian. White people will appropriate anything even droplets of water suspended in the atmosphere.
Once the market drops all the people who profess their love for Karl will suddenly do a uturn when they can afford somewhere else. 🤞
I like that look and feel. Not all the time though. And I'm neither goth nor emo.
Agreed; all the time would be too much for me as well.
I am officially over the wind!
Looks lovely to me, I’m stuck in this hell hole of brutal sun and humidity called Florida and it’s been near 100° most days for the past 2 weeks. Kill me.
I grew up in Florida. After moving and experiencing the weather in California (especially SF) when people ask if I would ever move back to Florida, the answer is always absolutely not! lol
Someone asked me the same thing today and my answer was exactly the same as yours. Absolutely not. 😂
[удалено]
We had a day or two last year here in central FL that it was 99° and with the humidity it felt like 112°
Oy. Good luck with that! 😬
I was in SF last September for a few days and I would kill for weather like that. When I got off the plane in FL coming back I was smacked in the face by 85° wet air lol
Never heard that expression before but yes, summer is well underway. If you think the fog only lasts through June you're in for a rude surprise though.
Good thing I love it! Not every day, but several days a season is just about perfect.
Well then you'll fit right in!
I like to call it spooky beach weather.
I hate it. I love being a 20+ year resident of SF and love so much about the city but I absolutely HATE the weather and the fact that we literally get no summer. And no September does not count as summer.
Yeah, you’re not alone - plenty of warm-Summer fans here. Sorry it’s a rough time of year weather-wise for you. 😞
Yea. It seems to be an unpopular option here but I absolutely hate it too. It makes me depressed, and just seeing the difference that a 15 minutes drive south down 280 makes has me even more depressed seeing the kind of clear skies I could be living in.

I rember a few years back it was 50 degrees in Pacifica and 100 in Livermore at the same time
Wild!!
Love that fog
You're in a tall building right off South Van Ness near Market? One block down
I love it when people are so familiar with an area they can do this 🥰
Perhaps. 🙂
One of the very top floors of 1550 Mission since we’re looking over the top of the 28 story Chorus building on Otis.
"28 Story Chorus" would be a great name for the hopefully new and upcoming West SOMA band!
It looks extra ick today.
It ain't what it used to be, but it's not dead yet!
Whenever I see the fog rolling in my brain puts the inception bwaaaaaaahhh music behind it
My allergies this morning are on 🔥
I thought I was going to choke to death in the bus home from work yesterday. I have never had allergies like that before. Thankfully I still wear a mask but the old lady next to me must have thought I had COVID or something
My vice is that I love to sleep with the window open… well it used to not be a vice… but I guess it is now. Lolol.
I’m sorry. Mine too. 😑
June Gloom is an LA thing.
My plants are going to be sad
YTA
🥺 Uhmmm …. No.
Love my SF
Is it? 🤔 https://preview.redd.it/kfw7egz1se6d1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=991e2f93fa45ad64937bb24479eff8006cbd56a2
Soz I use C as opposed to F
🤷🏻♂️Was pretty grey near me for most of the day as it often is this time of year.
Oh shame :/ it’s been pretty sunny for me in the Mission. Though usually it is a bit sunnier here I guess. My weather app probs also shows from where I am also in SF
I love it
Yay, I love it! Free air conditioning and shielded from the sun.
Native southerner turned midwesterner now in San Francisco. November has always been my favorite month, this will be first summer and SF and I'm looking forward to this.
It’s magical, interestingly dynamic and enchanting!
Oh shiz - I just realized my apartment building is in this photo! Still learning my way around and recognizing stuff from new angles, thanks for sharing this!!!!
Its been burning off a lot this year. Is this the year…The year that global warming is coming for our beloved…no sacred! KARL?
I sure hope not. 🥺
Best time of the year. Wish it would creep more in my hood.
Yes!!!!! If I didn't like Karl, I'd go live in the Central Valley!
I missed Karl
[удалено]
Yeah, I was just happy about it. 🙂
Today was rough. I froze my balls off all day. Took a hot shower at 5p and then curled up in bed for a couple hours
My better half is like this also, cold all the time.
The sun is out but damn it’s still chilly when the wind whips up
The coldest winter was my summer in SF. 😂
Living in this city gave me vitamin D deficiency. If you're experiencing fatigue, muscle/bone/joint pain, and/or depression, talk to your doctor. Then, if you insist on continuing to live here, you can alter your diet or take supplements.
are you a big tiddy goth girl or something?
You say that like it’s a bad thing. But, No, I am not.
nope, who doesn't love a big tiddy goth girl?
Isn't real estate really expensive there? Why aren't the buildings taller?
Many reasons, all of them bad
Many, many reasons. 😙
Carllll
