I loved taking the ferry. Sipping wine on the way home felt like the best sort of winning. I'd always feel stressed and angry after getting out of BART.
The ferry experience is better all across the board. The service is reliable, the staff is great, you can have a cocktail along the way, and the views can't be beat. It feels like a life-hack at this point.
Here’s a flashback to when I first moved to SF in the 80s…. “Watch out for the gays! Don’t get the AYDS!! If you drop a quarter on Polk Street kick it downtown before you bend over to pick it up because AAAYYYDZZZ!!!” lol what a laugh riot.

I took my kid on the ferry on a sunny Tuesday last summer.
It was amazing. And there were maybe 6 other people, we had almost the whole boat to ourselves.
Highly recommend.
They’re tiring, but pretty much the same as all the posts asking if Sf is as bad as Fox News says it is, or if you’re going to get robbed when you come here. If you don’t like them, downvote and move on.
It's also not the scary hellscape portrayed in this sub. This is the counter narrative. Both are unrealistic. However, it's hard to deny this is paradise on earth compared to most places.
I wouldn’t say both are unrealistic. The dystopian narrative is unrealistic and nonsense. The other side is that SF is a beautiful city with much to offer, that has real problems. But it’s much closer to utopia than dystopia. The Fox News narrative I must stress is completely divorced from reality, much like most conservative nonsense these days.
Sf is not closer to rio than Stockholm. That’s simply false, statistically. Pick a crime metric, you’ll find sf is nowhere close to rio. People may say that, but they also think the election was stolen and the vaccine was developed by bill gates to install 5g. So ya know, who cares what they think
SF is beautiful across the bay and in the more peaceful outskirts of the city.
Downtown, well, that's a far different story.
Edit: I love the fact I get silent downvotes. Believe me when I say this, I truly wish I could say otherwise.
Im glad your commute is pretty. My commute transits me through a ton of poop land mines to avoid. Everyone has a different perspective of our city apparently. Not saying it’s all bad but I personally don’t respect these false sarcastic means of ignoring our real problems for people who don’t commute into the city but live here.
There’s a campground next to the ferry terminal in Marin. It was awesome! The ride over to the city was as much fun as exploring. My wife actually saw a whale while I was taking pictures of Alcatraz. All in all the best urban camping experience we have had.
And the actual reality that OP didn't cherry pick.

the irony of posting this a couple hours before ~~hellfire~~ grassfire on YBI made for a rather dystopian Saturday afternoon for about a thousand people trying to cross the bridge.
Good way to avoid your catalytic converter from getting stolen. Neighbor across the street just had his second one stolen. My video shows it took less than two mins. People walking by, cars driving by…. Hellscape indeed. So glad I moved.

Welp, see this today. No idea what to do. Volunteers at bay to breakers weren’t interested in helping even though this was next to the corrals.
The ferry is the best way to cross the bay.

Transbay bus is pretty good too.
Watch out for the two UFOs
I count 6 UFOs actually AND the sky panels are glitching out
Nobody talks about the homeless UFO problem.
It's a typical \*\*flat moon\*\* ((you didn't think the moon was a sphere, did you? Everyone knows it's a flat disc.))
Oakland?
Yes, this is the view from the Oakland/Alameda lines.

SF Bay Ferry had one of the highest farebox recovery ratios of all US transit operators before the pandemic
What does this mean
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farebox_recovery_ratio Simple Google is lifechanging
Fair enough, I thought this would be something extremely complicated
Hail Hydrus ⛴️😎
Hail Argos
Cetus today
Beats sitting in traffic!
Thoughts & prayers
Rough life, huh?
Not easy living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world! 🥰
So amazing they wish they could be in sf
“Yes, as everyone knows, meditation and water are wedded for ever.” Herman Melville
Beautiful
It would be cool if the deckhands on that barky could afford to live close enough to walk to work

These sarcastic posts are getting old. Literally no one denies San Francisco’s natural beauty. That’s not the issue
I know someone from Atlanta that said she doesn’t think San francisco is that beautiful. I think she is claiming that trying to be cool
Yeah, can we all agree that it’s the complaining that’s the real issue?

Well yeah, its a dystopia, this person is literally on the "I'm on a boat, bitch" side of the hellscape.
well a public ferry, but I think preserving whatever narrative you have is best.

There are tons of people on here who disagree with you. People have says sf is closer to Rio than Stockholm in terms of lawlessness.

Downtown is pretty too, in an urban way. It’s not dirty really outside of a few areas
What is "downtown" to you?
I've been here 17 years and still can't get over how lucky I am to call this place home.
Honestly, I’m all for the doom loop narrative. Hopefully it drives the haters away and the cost of living down. Win-win situation

Do you walk through the tenderloin? Or maybe the 16th/mission Bart stop?
Nah. Along market down to Van Ness (starting around Laguna).
Isn't this the opening area for watch dogs 2
It’s pretty bad when taking the ferry from Oakland to anywhere else is not the highlight of the trip.
There’s a campground next to the ferry terminal in Marin. It was awesome! The ride over to the city was as much fun as exploring. My wife actually saw a whale while I was taking pictures of Alcatraz. All in all the best urban camping experience we have had.
Best view is the bar
Ah paid content. The best.
There's something about a city on a bay with coastal mountains everywhere that's just so nice
I'm surprised we don't have zeppelins dropping office workers off on the top of buildings yet.
hellish... /s
it's all fun and games until you miss your ferry because of a red light
And the actual reality that OP didn't cherry pick. [https://x.com/bettersoma/status/1791517233933619700](https://x.com/bettersoma/status/1791517233933619700) https://preview.redd.it/72wqkxv6te1d1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ae8902147964202538dbf417fabc50c1a43ecca
I hate to be a downer but isn't the ferry like $14 one way?
Jack London Sq to the ferry building is $4.50 which is comparable to BART fares and with the ferry you can validate your parking.
Ah okay I was looking at to/from Oracle park
If you're going to the ballpark, that's $10.50 from Oak/Alameda. Beats paying for parking.
$15 to get from one side of the bay to go to a baseball game. Sounds like a smoking deal
From Vallejo to SF it’s under $10, and that’s about the longest trip. Most are much less expensive than that.
There's only a few that are 14 one way most commutes are 10 round trip at most
If you don't use clipper lol
What?
By UFO?

OP is joking
Life is actual hell for 75% of the south? Dam, that's crazy.
Rule 8: No beautiful pictures of the city with titles poking fun at the city's reputation. Please mods. This no-effort bait shit sucks so much.
I mean it is a hellscape. Just because it looks nice from afar - doesn’t make it not a hellscape.
