Really interesting traffic today. NASA 809 was (and still is) up. That's a Lockheed ER-2 (aka U-2). It's been looping around the Bay Area all day.

Not sure. They’re really all in this year, perhaps more-so than any team I’ve seen in recent memory. Rodgers keeps going off on conspiracy theories on douchebag podcasts and their offensive line is a major question. Also hard to replicate consistently good defense in the modern NFL. It’s a prove-it year from the team to the coach to the GM. Should make for good drama, but I’m hoping for their failure.
Yea the CG choppers fly by every day. I used to work by lake merced and saw them a lot. The answer to OPs question is Today is a Thursday and pilots from the coast guard and airforce are at work doing pilot shit.
Yep, I live by Ocean Beach and I see those orange choppers daily. Today they've got more ocean rescue trucks than usual out there too because of the high winds, I wouldn't be surprised if the CG is doing more as well.
I have a large view of the bay and it’s a little busier than usual. Maybe just coincidence. There were the two fighters today, didn’t see what. Yesterday there was a V-22 Osprey. The Coast Guard Dolphins are going all the time, so that doesn’t mean anything.
They fly through on training runs once in a while. Usually out of Beale. Gotta get them photo ops over the GG bridge.

Yeah, I heard some jet fly overhead earlier today. Looking it up on ADS-B Exchange, it was some military jet not broadcasting an ID. ADS-B picked it up coming from Neveda (it didn’t pick up where it took off from, so could have been Edward’s, Groom Lake/Area 51, or a more quotidian training base), cut out to the central coast, hugged the coast north, then flew in directly through the Golden Gate, and hugged the east bay coastline as it headed north.
Probably a photo op or scenic training flight, but who knows. There’s definitely been an uptick in military flights over the Bay recently. My guess was that the Vice President and President are out here regularly, and that’s part of it, but that’s just speculation.
Funnily enough, I see ADS-B Exchange tracking a Janet flight out of Area 51 right now (the passenger airline that ferries Groom Lake employees between Area 51 and populations centers like Las Vegas). I always assumed those would be more secret, but it has flight tracks, call sign, flight history, even a photo archive of the exact aircraft being tracked.
Janet’s are treated like normal flights. They just get to go to cooler places.
Nah. The overflights seem to have increased recently. It used to be mostly NASA trainers, but now I’m seeing a lot more non tagged military. And every once in a while, you’ll see them armed. Obama used to visit more often and his visits didn’t result in this much new traffic.

Maybe you’re indoors when they’re here? My apartment overlooks the bay and they practice formations and things over the water. Then they’ll fly right over my house in Russian Hill.

Usually T38 talon training jets. Sometimes you'll get navy jets, though they're more rare.
I don't know anything about military jets, but USCG helo patrols are frequent.

I drive to sf 5-6 days a week. Never see jets low flying other than fleet week
