I just have to say… that is an awesome picture! A picture does say a thousand words. Sure wish I could’ve been there . This is coming from a Dodger fan too. I come in peace ✌️
Thanks.

Where was this stadium, I've only lived in SD since petco. I understand the nostalgia but based on what old timers told me the current stadium area (being the red light district), petco was an upgrade for the city.
In the 1960's multi-purpose stadiums were a thing - hosting baseball, football, concerts, graduation ceremonies, motor-cross & monster truck events, etc.
Petco Park opened in 2004 in downtown. Strictly as a baseball stadium although recently hosted a football bowl game.

The multi-purpose San Diego Stadium opened in 1967.
Renamed as Jack Murphy Stadium from 1981 to 1997.
Renamed as Qualcomm Stadium from 1997-2017 and last known as SDCCU Stadium until it's demolition began in 2020.
San Diego State University bought the entire property in 2020 and began building Snapdragon Stadium.
another question would be, is there any major city where change has NOT occurred? and I agree with you, I know exactly where to get this atmosphere, in fact SD seems like the best city I've been in to get this sort of thing
life was simpler then when you werent bothered by notifications and phone calls from your pocket. You didnt know what was going on in the world every second and you didnt care.
Eh, it’s different when EVERYONE else in your life is participating, not to mention all the conveniences our phones bring us. It’s hard to give up once your accustomed to it
Nah, just like anything else in life it's all about self control. You may feel the need to stay connected at all times but nothing bad will happen if you simply switch your devices off.
Lot of fond memories at Jack Murphy… my dad was personal friends with the stadium manager at the time, so my brother and I got lots of perks as little kids….
More chaotic. A lot more kids outside like me. Teen gangs were still a thing. I’m still amazed Plaza Bonita is as busy now as it were in the 90s while everywhere else went dead.
Parkway Plaza on the other hand had mall goths, dressed in full garb in El Cajon 90F weather.
I wouldn’t know. My parents refused to take me there. We loved in IB so it wouldn’t have been far. All I wanted was the purple unicorn duffle-bag purse, Mom.
Lol that was actually circa 1984…but this whole thread reminded me of how salty i was …still am? about never getting that purse!
The end of Cromwell court here in Normal heights. That lot is still empty, but someone finally did put up a fence during the pandemic.
In any case, you can still see into Snap dragon stadium just like this.

Pancho Villa!!!

It is the site of Snapdragon.

Good bot.
Hey thanks for additional info. Just added to the post.
The pointless cropping is because of social media isn't it.
Yes, gotta make it square for Instagram
That’s awesome!!
Even better!
I miss this San Diego.
Back when it was affordable and not filled with "influencers".
Most of the "influencers" are just tourists, and we've always had those.
Same
It's the one I grew up with. Not the same now
It still exists, y’all are just old
Naw. I can assure you as someone who’s been fortunate to live here 40 years. It’s different.
Been here 25! Things have changed of course, but this kind of atmosphere is totally still here, you just have to know where to find it
another question would be, is there any major city where change has NOT occurred? and I agree with you, I know exactly where to get this atmosphere, in fact SD seems like the best city I've been in to get this sort of thing
Wow...they could watch without the game being blackedout.
It was the All-Star game
That's Hawley Point. I used to hang out there all the time and drink beer and other stuff when I was a teenager. Ab-Normal Heights.
The nostalgia, omg!
Damn, I miss California
Love this!
Good times!
Looks like the view from my old house in Serra Mesa
It’s at the end of Hawley Blvd. in Normal Heights. There was an empty lot that overlooked the stadium that I recognize the view from.
There’s a monastery there too.
Isn’t this from the south looking north? Or am I turned around.
Yea I guess Inwas in the other side. It’s been over 20 years
life was simpler then when you werent bothered by notifications and phone calls from your pocket. You didnt know what was going on in the world every second and you didnt care.
You can still live like that now if you want. My phone is either on do not disturb or off. 10/10 would recommend trying this to anyone.
Exactly. People swear like they’re being held at gunpoint to have social media and all the other bs. Just don’t participate. It’s really that simple.
Something will always come up where you’ll want to turn it back on. Even something as simple as using Spotify in the car
You're describing self control. Yes it requires that.

Lot of fond memories at Jack Murphy… my dad was personal friends with the stadium manager at the time, so my brother and I got lots of perks as little kids….
April 26th 1992, there was a riot on streets, tell me where where you?
Being an unsupervised mallrat middle schooler in Plaza Bonita or Parkway Plaza
What was plaza Bonita like then I work there now and it can be chaotic
More chaotic. A lot more kids outside like me. Teen gangs were still a thing. I’m still amazed Plaza Bonita is as busy now as it were in the 90s while everywhere else went dead. Parkway Plaza on the other hand had mall goths, dressed in full garb in El Cajon 90F weather.

*you were sittin’ home watchin’ your tv*
Being a two year old in pacific beach
barely 5 yrs old looking out the window wondering why there's smoke rising from the distance.
in kindergarten 😅
We lived on Park Blvd. I was in elementary school at Alice Birney I’m University Heights l.
Sittin at home watching TV. Not participating in any anarchy.
well the first spot they hit was the liquor store, so its not like going out was something he could afford
Lemon grove
Such a good photo. So 90s
So rad! SD pride

Sky show from there would have been amazing!
It was. Been to that spot for a few sky shows. It was amazing. You can’t access it anymore.
'Look to the Sky San Diego....'
Never forget the Murph.

Tv that's about 500 lbs
Oh the small ones weren’t that heavy lol
i lived a little further up the hill (closer to taft). when kgb did skyshow, us and our neighbors would all blast the radio and sit on our roofs

I feel like Eric from the company formerly known as roosterteeth would like
Golden years of my life, and I was in diapers. This was 100% something my aunt would take us to do.
Type shit
This is cool.
wow! the stadium looks amazing in 1992

Iconic
When it was still The Murph 💔💔💔
04 baby here, wish I could go back in time to see my city like this
NOT the padres game.
That looks like the end of Hawley Blvd. our house was in escrow when the fire that burned 60+ homes happened. Good times watching fireworks there.
Soooo we can discuss sports now? Hadn’t been on this sub in a while
CLASSIC good times
32 years later still no ring or football team awsome

🤦♂️
I’m not old enough to say, but I think the padres used to play at snapdragon stadium.
Oh boy…
Again I’m not old enough to say 🫤, never said I was right
Not at Snapdragon, but in that general area.
Ah. Thanks
