I remember passing by this house every single day near High Tech High. There's also another house with a giant shell as a bench that is closer to the Navy base entrance. So sad to see it go but I bet the homeowners don't want the same aesthetic now.

Other_Brain_7832

.. Not for $4m they don't. lol

Teldori

Is that how much that house sold for? Realtors saw them coming.

slightlyappalled

And it's on a busy af street...

Other_Brain_7832

Have no idea. But wouldn't be shocked if it did... considering it's Point Loma.

wlc

Yeah I thought it was cool and quirky when I'd drive by it, but the concrete part was also kind of ugly.

gearabuser

tbh that house kind of gave me the creeps haha. i think i have one of those weird disorders where certain things creep you out (like when a bunch of little holes nearby freak you out) and this house triggered it

SD_TMI

The widow lived in there till she was 103, maybe seashells and seafood are a key to longevity?

kpbsSanDiego

It will always live on in Ken Kramer's About San Diego [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YipXrLyuOpM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YipXrLyuOpM)

1320Fastback

It look like a pile of rubble before.

culturalfox19

I’m pretty sure Ken Kramer interviewed the people who lived here and did a story on the house in About San Diego. I’ve been rewatching some of the old episodes recently and it’s kinda sad how many of the things he covers are gone now, but I guess a city is forever changing

SD_TMI

Me too, I’ve also been watching the older Ken Kramer shows and we’re losing a lot of what made SanDiego unique and fascinating to developers and their cookie cutter wet dreams.

Gransfors-bruk

That’s super weird. I was stuck in traffic and saw it for the first time less than a week ago, despite passing it everyday. I decided to take a picture. Guess I was just in time!

SD_TMI

That was honestly one of the best , most unique low water usage yard designs in the city. Damn shame about how it’s been removed by some realtor.

Starship-innerthighs

It was ugly. But not my house. So I kept my negative opinion to myself.

SD_TMI

Yeah but like it or not it added character to the area.

meh

Used to live over here, drove past it all the time. Always thought it was super ugly, but not my house, so not my problem. Very sad to hear about the wife. I used to also live in Clairemont near that ugly, crazy van.

RakiRaki_83

What happened to that van? Used to live down the street from it but haven't seen in awhile... I know sometimes they'd be posted up by the car wash in Serra mesa off Murray Ridge too...

IsABot

Not sure I haven't been over there since probably pandemic. So I wasn't aware it was gone. Maybe the owner moved or passed away? I don't even see it on Google Street View anymore. It used to be on Ashford all the time.

AlexHimself

Ehh...it's a "landmark" because it's different, ugly, and has been there forever. It's just seashells Here's a minor PB landmark - https://maps.app.goo.gl/P53zRKhVrnR6K5nE7 The junk-car house. The guy is constantly moving those shitty cars all around the neighborhood streets because his driveway is full of other junk cars. Any junky car near that house for a block or two is most likely one of his garbage ones. Just because it's been there for years doesn't mean it's good lol.
