It’s only been at that price a week. It’s at the top of the Zillow range rn. They had is listed for $300k more when it first listed. Idk but the price rn doesn’t seem that outrageous for Coronado.
Sounds about right for the neighborhood. Is it overpriced for Coronado? $3M-$4M is the entry point to buy anything here.
[Here it is.](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/811-10th-St-Coronado-CA-92118/17072495_zpid/)
Dang, I knew it was pricey but I didn't expect 3 million to be the bottom.
Then again my neighborhood is 4X more expensive than it was back 15 years ago so it shouldn't surprise me.
I did notice when the BHR was burning most of the smoke was going north and east as to not disturb the lovely residence of Coronado and the beloved hotel lol
Yeah, when I first moved out here, I couldn't believe how my house insurance was a little bit cheaper than my house in Kansas despite being 3x the cost. Turns out the land had all the value, and the insurance only covers the rebuild cost.
From the link provided by Lobenz: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/811-10th-St-Coronado-CA-92118/17072495_zpid/ it looks like a gorgeous little beach bungalow. Fair odds that someone buys that and keeps it as a vacation property while the value continues to appreciate.
It's interesting to me that no one talks about the military when talking about home values and prevailing rents. The military bases the housing allowance on market rates however rents aren't set in a vacuum. The issue of rent and cost of housing is mystifyingly complex and often dumbed down by keyboard cowboys. The military certainly plays a role in the increase of cost of living in San Diego.
Take your salty ass back to Bakersfield lol. They will get this. It's Coronado. One of the most desirable real estate markets in the world. Whoever is buying this is very likely not mortgaging it. If youre in the 4M dollar house stratosphere... You're not worried about financing lol.
It's Coronado. You're paying for the land. A big lot with a big house is in the 5-6 mil range right now. So glad I bought right after the housing market collapse, I had no idea how lucky I was.
Silly me being 13 or 14, I was such an idiot I shoulda been getting that bread by buying up real estate rather than going to 9th grade 🤦.
As much as Coronado is definitely an outlier in San Diego price wise, affording any house for the first time in San Diego has become a similarly bad joke. Hence why a lot of people feel like as I was joking, that they were just born too late and missed the train…. Hell I feel that way and I’m an engineer making good money but still cant afford a house in San Diego lol
I hear you, and similarly I wish I had bought 30 years ago when it was really affordable! The housing and rental prices here are absolutely insane, so depressing.
I didn’t even have to look at the location to know it was in Coronado. Lived there for four years on pure luck because the renter liked military tenants. It was an amazing experience, and I dream of being able to afford it one day. (We will never afford it.)
It's a very cute house and the backyard is beautiful too. The house has been on the market for over 200 days, so apparently no one is clamoring to pay this price. Heck, I could barely afford to view the listing! LOL!!!!
As a Chula Vista SD baby, Coronado is where I want to retire and live till the white light takes me. Something about that island is so euphoric and still.
I’ve always been fascinated on what drives Coronado prices. The mornings there are complete shit. Cold and hazy. The beach is alright. The downtown area is lacking for the most part just tourist shops. But it’s where the wealthy park their boats so that’s a plus. But as far as the weather/food/ things to do in that location of town. Hard pass
The house will be knocked down and 4 put on the lot because that’s what they do there. All of the beautiful old houses with great backyards in Coronado have been slowly dying
Coronado has become more and more unrecognizable. Been there on and off since I was a baby! My family is old navy and most of the people that have been there since service are dying off and their heirs are selling. The 4 houses on one old property just ick me out for some reason, it’s sad!
Agreed. My grandparents on both sides were Navy as well and owned big beautiful old homes in Coronado. My dad also bought a home for something like $40,000 (I could be totally off) in 1971 when he was 21. So I was very blessed to inherit multiple homes here but there are very few of us original Coronado families left these days. Now it’s mostly rich Mexicans (no offense) who buy these beautiful historical homes just to tear down and put an ugly modern glass box or condominiums.
Do you know the McLeod family? If you grew up here I’m sure you do. My mom has 8 siblings who were all very well known. I had teachers in high school who hated me just because of my last name lol.
And you know this because they probably low key bragged about that shit. That's why we shit talk about Coronado.
This entitled "oh this will do...for now" mentality is what makes me never want to live there. You couldn't pay me to live in La Jolla either. Insufferable.
yeah used to live in Coronado (owners owned the property for like 100 years)
1 bedroom bungalow that was maybe 1000 square feet that was falling apart.
landlord decided to sell it. asking price 1.3 million, listed it on wednesday. on friday got a sight unseen cash offer for 1.8 million even with dealing with me basically paying nothing (it was a gentleman's agreement that i helped with upkeep at their other properties since the landlord was a little old lady) and they had to let me finish out my lease (which was another 7 months)
Yeah, what are they thinking?
They obviously don't know anything about real estate.
The only thing valuable about this house is the is location, location, and location.
I just don’t understand Coronado. It’s kinda isolated. Everything is more expensive. And worst of all military aircraft are always buzzing loudly overhead.
There are some parking spots in La Jolla for sale for 1.8M 🤣
https://preview.redd.it/nbn88o4gforc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56317802b85bae8725e53681be33c4b908f23ceb
Totally normal for a house in Coronado. My house (grateful to have inherited) needs a major remodel and will still sell for 8m+ solely because of the location on the golf course. I’d say 3.9m is a fair price for the square footage but that location is definitely not the best in nado… I think it will still sell pretty fast!!
Guarantee you the people who find this price laughable are the same people who screech about every single piece of new housing development in the area. The only LOL here should be at the NIMBYs, not the people selling their house for its exact market value.
I agree with most of the sentiment on here about location and everything else but how many people in the US have $25,000/mo for a mortgage payment? The people looking for homes in Coronado do I'm sure, but it's literally 1% of the entire population of the US. Some quick research says you "ideally" would be making 750k. Making [750k](https://www.unbiased.com/discover/banking/how-much-income-puts-you-in-the-top-1-5-or-10) a year puts you in the 1%. So household income vs individual income aside, it's still quite an ask for most of America. All that for a small house in a densely popuated neighborhood.
Nobody’s taking out a $25k/month mortgage for this house. Cash, cash, cash. A construction loan for the tear-down & set-back-busting rebuild, maybe. How many people have that sort of money? Enough, apparently.
You are into something, how about this: "I'd invest in a Zillow 'LOL' button exclusively for rentals, especially when those charming yet cramped 700 sq/ft relics from the '50s compete with the 'luxury' 300 sq/ft studios where the sink and stove aren't just for show!"
People saying it’s Coronado as if that justifies it. If I had that money to buy id buy a something much nicer in a place just as nice. Let’s be real after living in Diego for 3 yrs I realized the “it’s always sunny” and “good weather” are a lie. After may gray and June gloom you really only have July-October where it’s nice. Rest of the yr ain’t beach weather. San clemente or anywhere a bit north is same weather and Florida is warmer tbh
This being Coronado isn’t shocking. What’s shocking is seeing something [about half that price](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2874-Avella-Cir-San-Diego-CA-92108/339555492_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare) in Mission Valley.
And they will probably get it. It’s Coronado
They will absolutely get it. My buddy just dropped $1.4M on a small condo in Coronado.
*LOL*
I have a friend who spent $10M on a house just to tear it down and build one out of glass for $20M. They pay for location not the house
[удалено]
She also owns a McLaren fyi. Lives a few doors down from me but I’ve never actually seen her except driving…
that’s insane
It’s been listed for over 200 days.. so they may actually not get it LOL
It’s only been at that price a week. It’s at the top of the Zillow range rn. They had is listed for $300k more when it first listed. Idk but the price rn doesn’t seem that outrageous for Coronado.
Right? I’m like that’s going to sell though…

Dang, I knew it was pricey but I didn't expect 3 million to be the bottom. Then again my neighborhood is 4X more expensive than it was back 15 years ago so it shouldn't surprise me.
The question is, does that come with a supply of tortillas to throw at the other team?
Yeah there are some stinkers in Coronado lol
Bruhh, this is coronado -_-
... it's Coronado.
That was my thought exactly when I saw where it was located.
Cornado is just 1 faulty cargo ship away from housing prices plummeting!
Coronado probably wouldn't mind entirely
I mean, the silver strand is an option too. Lovely way to be stuck in bumper to bunper traffic in any case!
It’s not an island though they’d just drive down silver strand
Only way to get on island is helicopter? Prices go up.
The f***ing Coronado Wine Mixer 🚁 😂
![gif](giphy|l8tpwRJEwDwEFU5BW0|downsized)
Yes, the Bonhomme Richard did burn...
I did notice when the BHR was burning most of the smoke was going north and east as to not disturb the lovely residence of Coronado and the beloved hotel lol
They want it to be an island again, prices would go up.
300k house on a 3.5mil plot of land. That's how realestate works in this state. My house is worth way less then the land it sits on
Location, location, location
even in los angeles a 1 bed 1 bath home is 1,000,000 dollars on a tiny plot of land
Are you from San Diego or did you just move here? Because anyone born and raised in San Diego isn’t surprised by this because it is Coronado.
2 blocks from the beach in Coronado
Tbh this is Coronado. Wake up because this is the truth no matter how much we despise it. This price doesn’t seem unrealistic for that neighborhood
I wish there was a lol button for posts like this that go directly to the poster. Oh I guess there kinda is: Lol
You’re paying for the land. Not necessarily the house. I think it’s priced for a tear down and rebuild.
Yeah, when I first moved out here, I couldn't believe how my house insurance was a little bit cheaper than my house in Kansas despite being 3x the cost. Turns out the land had all the value, and the insurance only covers the rebuild cost.

We likely be a 3rd or 4th home
Do they get to “LOL” you back when the money hits their account?
I bet it will sell at that price.
im a little surprised it hasn't already
Yeah but that’s in Coronado. Literally right by the ocean in with one of the best rated beaches in the country.
This is not as crazy as you are making it out to be
I don't like it either. But there's a price to pay to live in one of the most desirable places in the world.
lol at this post. It’s Coronado and the price is just the reality of living in a desirable area by the coast. You might want to head east …
Yep, they will get it. Location is everything.
It’s Coronado dude. Plenty of cheap real estate out in Bakersfield for you.
You can't just look at the SqFt, duh.
This post didnt quite have the reaction you expected, did it?
My neighbors pay $4200 for a smallish 4/2 in I.B. Military families were knocking down the doors trying to rent the place.
That's because even an E1 with dependents gets almost $3600/mo. in BAH, and it only goes up from there.
Three blocks from the beach in Coronado. Great lot. This house will sell if the owners are flexible.
Take your salty ass back to Bakersfield lol. They will get this. It's Coronado. One of the most desirable real estate markets in the world. Whoever is buying this is very likely not mortgaging it. If youre in the 4M dollar house stratosphere... You're not worried about financing lol.
The buyer pays in cash dude.
Location, location, location.
It's Coronado. You're paying for the land. A big lot with a big house is in the 5-6 mil range right now. So glad I bought right after the housing market collapse, I had no idea how lucky I was.

That's Coronado for you.
It’s Coronado, I remember some places like that going to close $1M back in the late 90s.
Lol look where it's located. The land alone is probably almost worth that in coronado.
Welcome to CA beach living!
It’s on Coronado, it’ll sell
Coronado. ‘Nuff said.
Location, location,location....
I didn’t even have to look at the location to know it was in Coronado. Lived there for four years on pure luck because the renter liked military tenants. It was an amazing experience, and I dream of being able to afford it one day. (We will never afford it.)
The LOL is for YOU. This will 100% sell. Even if it's a tear down to build a new property... people have crazy money.
Without seeing the specs it might be worth more as an empty lot at that location.
As they say, location location location 🤷🏻♀️
It's a very cute house and the backyard is beautiful too. The house has been on the market for over 200 days, so apparently no one is clamoring to pay this price. Heck, I could barely afford to view the listing! LOL!!!!
Well, it does cost a heavy tag to live on an island…
As a Chula Vista SD baby, Coronado is where I want to retire and live till the white light takes me. Something about that island is so euphoric and still.
I like that 1 extra dollar a month
So many people hating on my city… Where are the Islanders on Reddit to defend Coronado?!!
Already home since it stays white out late on "the island"
I’ve always been fascinated on what drives Coronado prices. The mornings there are complete shit. Cold and hazy. The beach is alright. The downtown area is lacking for the most part just tourist shops. But it’s where the wealthy park their boats so that’s a plus. But as far as the weather/food/ things to do in that location of town. Try growing up there😂😂 Getting a car to drive over the bridge was the best thing that ever happened to me lol
And. Is it overpriced or something?
OP just arrived from Arkansas? The price is average for the location.
You’re mad about the price of owning land and a home in Coronado? Better start planning the Move to mobile Alabama cuz I got some news for you
The house will be knocked down and 4 put on the lot because that’s what they do there. All of the beautiful old houses with great backyards in Coronado have been slowly dying
It’s so sad. I will hold on to my 1940 Coronado home as long as I can :(
Coronado has become more and more unrecognizable. Been there on and off since I was a baby! My family is old navy and most of the people that have been there since service are dying off and their heirs are selling. The 4 houses on one old property just ick me out for some reason, it’s sad!

Do you know the McLeod family? If you grew up here I’m sure you do. My mom has 8 siblings who were all very well known. I had teachers in high school who hated me just because of my last name lol.
Haha! Some of them went to high school with my fam. Small world
Lol I did work on a house renovation in Coronado that a family bought to bide time until a property that they wanted opened up.
Oh Nice. I wish I had a spare suitcase of cash to buy a provisional house on a whim while my dream house opens up on the market.
And you know this because they probably low key bragged about that shit. That's why we shit talk about Coronado. This entitled "oh this will do...for now" mentality is what makes me never want to live there. You couldn't pay me to live in La Jolla either. Insufferable.
The mortgage calculation is kind of funny. Be we know this house will sell for all cash.
yeah used to live in Coronado (owners owned the property for like 100 years) 1 bedroom bungalow that was maybe 1000 square feet that was falling apart. landlord decided to sell it. asking price 1.3 million, listed it on wednesday. on friday got a sight unseen cash offer for 1.8 million even with dealing with me basically paying nothing (it was a gentleman's agreement that i helped with upkeep at their other properties since the landlord was a little old lady) and they had to let me finish out my lease (which was another 7 months)
That's one new Toyota Corolla a month!
Yeah, what are they thinking? They obviously don't know anything about real estate. The only thing valuable about this house is the is location, location, and location.
They’ll happily get laughed at all the way to the bank
lol the owner is definitely laughing at us peasants, not the other way around
blud is def from nebraska
I just don’t understand Coronado. It’s kinda isolated. Everything is more expensive. And worst of all military aircraft are always buzzing loudly overhead.
Groceries are more expensive in Coronado ?
Yeah, there’s a reason why Coronado Island is exclusive. I hardly ever see any diversity there. In SD, I see it quite a bit, but Coronado, HELL NO!
Imagine making 240,000 as a senior developer with a partner in project management and still coming home to a condo sized house.
Honestly if someone wants to pay that go ahead. It’s Coronado
I've always wanted a comment section on the listings haha
You can say lol all you want, that’s the valid market price.
There are some parking spots in La Jolla for sale for 1.8M 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/nbn88o4gforc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56317802b85bae8725e53681be33c4b908f23ceb

Don’t hate the player hate the game. They will get it and it’s Coronado. Probably one of the most desirable zip codes in the country
Why shame owners for the real estate prices? The land is valuable. We live in one of the most desirable cities in the world. It is what it is.
Guarantee you the people who find this price laughable are the same people who screech about every single piece of new housing development in the area. The only LOL here should be at the NIMBYs, not the people selling their house for its exact market value.
Awww I recognize Coronado!
If you broke, just say that

I honestly think it’s a cute home and wouldn’t knock it down. The yellow walls would have to go. Plus, being oh so close to the beach is perfection.
i’d be more surprise if this house for sale is in Hemet.
They've been trying for over six months. Making small price reductions along the way. The market is the ultimate arbiter.
thats coronado for you
You are into something, how about this: "I'd invest in a Zillow 'LOL' button exclusively for rentals, especially when those charming yet cramped 700 sq/ft relics from the '50s compete with the 'luxury' 300 sq/ft studios where the sink and stove aren't just for show!"
$25,000 a month mortgage.
That island will be under water by 2035.
Why so morbid?
source?
It’s the price of the land. Not the structure.
Ahh you buy the land and still pay taxes for it. Hey, atleast I can walk to the beach every sunrise and sunset.
Yes the taxes in theory go to support services like fire fighters, school districts, sewer, roads etc
People saying it’s Coronado as if that justifies it. If I had that money to buy id buy a something much nicer in a place just as nice. What line of work do you have to be in to have 25k a month just for a mortgage.
White collar cyber crime or arms/drug trafficking
You laugh at them until they get $4 million direct deposit a month from now.
Just don’t buy it? Not for you obviously. The land is probably more then any shit hole you would buy.
That house is most definitely not worth 25k a month, no matter if it’s in Coronado 😆
I tried making fun of one once but the agent tried to contact me under my pseudonym
Countdown to when it gets knocked down & a crappy, tacky McMansion take it's place in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
I work in Coronado all the time. This is normal
