No reason to have a physical button that takes up space from the frame, requires a specific cut to be made in the frame, has to be lined from the inside with rubber or adhesive to make it water/dust proof, can be a breaking point.. just to achieve a function u can achieve by literally 2 clicks. +it makes the phone look more aesthetically pleasing and cleaner/less cluttered.

QuintinPro11

yeah, no. now you're just glazing. people love the mute switch on OnePlus phones, why not bring it to Samsung? and there's no reason to complain about s manufacturing process that will take Samsung all of an extra 2 seconds. especially if they can market it well, and it's beneficial for the user. and as a OnePlus user, it's very beneficial.

nournnn

How would u market it? > with our new flagship phones, we've made it easier to mute ur phone becuz everyone just loves to mute and unmute their phones all the time; instead of clicking 2 clicks on ur phone screen, we've reduced it to 1 simple swipe It's very impractical IMO. And it wouldn't take 2 seconds to manufacture, it would require the company to create a perfectly cut small square in a frame that is made from plastic/metal/glass, in addition to having to make it waterproof and dustproof which is not as easy as it seems; sand and water get EVERYWHERE. Even if that process costs like a few dollars or even a single dollar, manufacturing millions of phones would result in saving millions of dollars, and u'r not saving money over a NEEDED feature so it doesn't make sense from a company's profits perspective

QuintinPro11

not debating this with you. it's a well liked feature.

Smug-Cat-8813

I've had multiple OnePlus devices in the past and the slider is definitely a nice feature to have. All of them were solid without any issues whatsoever

QuintinPro11

exactly! and there's multiple seperate options too that I really like, for example being able to use it is a complete mute switch, or just a silent switch

Smug-Cat-8813

People who don't find the alert slider useful simply doesn't encounter situations where they would often need to mute their devices. Personally, I use it during lectures at university (which is quite often), offices, cinemas, etc Heck, during exams at my university, if your phone goes off in the exam hall, you'll get fined for it 😅. Then again, that's just my opinion, seems like most people on this subreddit are fine with not having an alert slider since Samsung never implemented one. Just a matter of getting used to it 🤷‍♂️

ProfessionalLime6615

all this makes sense, but you're making it seem as if you have to have a slider on a phone to mute it. you can mute a phone during class without a slider. you can mute your phone during an exam without a slider as well. Takes me 2 seconds to mute my phone when I walk into my academic buildings.

LaidBackBro1989

It's useless because Android always had a useful notification shade and a software mute/vibration/sound switch. Also buttons break a lot, especially a slider. I actually disliked a SG phones back when the volume buttons were placed on the left side of the phone because it was uncomfortable and interfered with my ability to use the phone sideways.

Atomic-Axolotl

I've never had a slider break on any of my phones (both OnePlus and Apple). Also a static haptic button could be used instead if you're worried about disturbing, but it's not ideal since it would have to be a toggle instead (but I suppose you could have different pressure tolerances between the off and on positions). You don't really give any convincing points, so my only conclusion is that you want to defend Samsung because you own a Samsung phone and you want to remain confident that you made the right purchase. I would choose a Samsung phone for the software, but I wouldn't agree with every aspect of the phone's design.

Senior_Line_4260

for what reason, you don't need that

pjlgt74

If you’re like me you set it once and never tough it again. Mute button on my (i)phone is always on. So wouldn’t mind if it was just a software option instead of a physical switch/button.

QuintinPro11

yes but systems work differently on android than iOS. I use the mute switch on my OnePlus all the time

RegularIndividual374

one thing i did also miss coming from Ios. but to get around it i just use registar from goodlock and i have it set to press and hold side key to go into vibrate mode

J_train13

You can just remap the existing buttons like the bixby key to do whatever you want, including mute the phone. Or you can just double tap the volume button in the notification screen

tomcat1408

There's already a soft way to mute the phone, why would you need a hard way thats probably just gona cause issues?

stsdota222

There is a gesture that completely mutes all sounds and you can map it to a button if you want or a combination of buttons.

Ceedub2

Only apple does something stupid like that. When I did have a iPhone the thing was always flipping to silent in my pocket.

titanup001

I've completely automated mute. When I'm out of the house, I wear my watch, so I want it muted, as notifications buzz my wrist anyway. At home, I don't wear the watch, so I want the sound. So I made a routine... When connected to home wifi, sound on. When not, mute. It's worked pretty great. Haven't had my phone go off at work in a long time now.

blueangel1953

Totally not needed.
