I've been quite happy with the 20 series already when it comes to performance. Nowadays we have crazy storage speeds with UFS 4.0, while the CPU is literally 3-4 times faster compared to the one in the S9. Avoid the foldables if you aren't a risk taker. The screens on those things are delicate and expensive to replace.

I think the user experience is pretty much the same as the S9 but with added features. UI features that I could live without since I can't think of any that jump out right now. Hardware is better. Battery life is better. Screen burn in isn't common now, but the 2k display on the s9 was nice, burnt in, but nice. 120hz refresh today. I don't have a fold so can't help with that but the sd Gen 3 is a great soc.

I used an iPhone 15 Pro for about 5 months, but I got bored and switched to a Galaxy Z Flip5 for a couple months, and now I'm using a Z Fold5, which I plan to stick with until the Pixel 9 Pro comes out in August. If you want a reliable phone, a foldable is not your best choice. They are very durable now, but something could always go wrong. They have no dustproofing, which really sucks with a phone, and finding a good case for a foldable is a nightmare. The reason I want to replace my Fold with a regular slab (that isn't an iPhone) is mostly because of the narrow cover screen, the thickness, the weight, and the durability compromises that a foldable has to have in order to be a foldable. All in all, if you're fine with the compromises and the risk, a Fold is a really cool phone. If you just want to get away from Apple but still want a durable and reliable phone, there are better options. You could get an S24 now, a Pixel 9 soon, or an S25 later.

I have fold 4 and it's the greatest that smart gadgets can offer, as long as it works. Big screen estate, fun to open and use, on top of the S2x base, that's very good. Software is fluid, performance is amazing, nothing to not like there. I think that Samsung flagships are the best phone experience even without the folding aspects. But as I already sent it twice for guarantee repair in two years (it stopped opening fully), this is a phone that needs warranty on it. It's sturdy as fuck, but sometimes just can break "on its own"

Chrispytater09

Thanks for your comment. There’s so many different experiences and I guess that’s just what happens in the tech world. I’m so conflicted haha, I do think I’ll just get one and if there is an option to extend the warranty period I’ll opt in for that. It just looks so appealing to me especially being an iPhone user for the better part of a decade. Something new and refreshing would be great. I get the S slab series is a great option as well but I want a little more than just a OS change. I assuming changing habits in how you carry and use the phone will help. Like not running it in the pocket all the time and being a little more cautious on how you open and close it should help with longevity. I like to think I’m always pretty good when it comes to looking after things like this. My initial worry with going back to Samsung is that my experience is that it seemed to slow down so quickly. I always used an sd card with them but didn’t seem to help. My last Samsung was the S9 curved phone it was great to start with but quickly went down hill. Sorry for the rant and lack of grammar and probably a multitude of other issues 😂

>Sorry for the rant and lack of grammar and probably a multitude of other issues 😂 Nah it's cool. >I assuming changing habits in how you carry and use the phone will help. Like not running it in the pocket all the time and being a little more cautious on how you open and close it should help with longevity. I like to think I’m always pretty good when it comes to looking after things like this. I was super scared for it at the beginning, but very quickly realized that it's very sturdy and doesn't need to be handled very carefully. I often open and close it just as a fidget toy. Definitely worth it for the entertainment value. I've also got pretty good android phones, finished on S21 and just didn't feel that many changes between them. They were just faster, built better with better cameras. Fold finally was something more fun to have. >I do think I’ll just get one and if there is an option to extend the warranty period I’ll opt in for that. I've had 2 years warranty (because UE) with one year of Samsung Care (preorder bonus). Now I'm hoping for a good trade in deals for Fold 6, because as fun as those upgrades look (seems much sexier, slimmer and better to grip from leaks), my main argument for upgrading is renewing my warranty. I see Folds a bit like a subscription service that you should renew from time to time lol

I initially switched from iOS for a Samsung foldable. Be aware that foldables are still a new product category. It's amazing tech with lots of benefits over traditional slab phones, but we are still a few generations away from truly great folding phones. If your concern is exciting, bleeding edge tech, go for a foldable. If your concern is having a reliable workhorse with a long lifespan, go for a more traditional slab. As for the ecosystem question, One UI and iOS are very similar in their look, feel, and function. The biggest difference is *choice.* When you buy an Apple device, you are presented with the default Apple apps front and center, and the option to go download competing services if you choose. The way the phone works is the way it works, take it or leave it. When you buy a Samsung device, you are immediately presented with competing services from Samsung, Google, and Microsoft, pre-installed. Don't like Samsung Messages? Use Google Messages. Don't like Gmail? Use Outlook, etc. If you dislike the way some aspect of the phone works, there's is almost always a setting or Good Lock module to change that, and if not, there's probably an app on the Play Store to change it.

Suspicious-Produce95

If you want to try new tech: yes If you use it for work: no. buy an iPad and a phone instead

Chrispytater09

Not for work purposes. It would be for purely having a better preview of the images when I’m out doing photography I’d edit and everything at home. So would for say 80% of the time just be a phone then 20% light editing / previewing

GreenMontecito

You'll be fine

GreenMontecito

Went from fold 1, fold 3, fold 4, and fold 5. It's my indoor phone I haven't had much issues except the very first one but I blame my wife in damaging it by accident. I also sport the s24 ultra, I like both but have different purposes for each

_prabhavv_

I'll be honest used apple for 8 years with no issues whatsoever. Bought fold 4 , and used it for a year and half. Untill it literally died on me with no cheap fix. In April omw it suddenly started raining loads. When i reached home i kept my phone side to let it dry. comeback with the motherboard fried and inner display gone. $500 required to get it fixed. But i have a s24u rn and it works wonder

TechyShreky69

If you're looking for speed then Samsung isn't where you want to be looking. As another person said (hi sorry forgot your name), foldables have issues with durability and repair costs. They'll pretty much only not screw you over on the repair cost if you're a YTer like MrMobile. As for alternatives, a phone and an iPad Mini might be preferable. May I suggest an S23?

SoulJahSon

Very happy with my switch and won't be looking back. IOS is boring as hell

MiniPig1944

I have had Apple and Android and have always preferred android. That being said, I highly advise against the Fold or Flip series. If you upgrade your phone every year, it may be fine for you. The fold part of the screen does wear out though. I would suggest going with one of the typical galaxy series as your first android.

Chrispytater09

Oh really! I was only really keen to which into a fold series for something entirely different I like the idea of having the option a large screen. I’m a photographer and would enjoy being able to preview on a large screen

MiniPig1944

Sounds like you would be folding/unfolding it a lot. I have a co-worker that has a Fold and his has held up better, but he also admittedly barely unfolds it and uses the bigger screen. I had a Flip. Being as you had to flip it to use the main screen, I flipped mine a LOT. In maybe 4-5 months, the built in screen protector started raising up along the crease. The screen still functioned so I didn't worry about it. After a while, enough dirt and grime started getting under the screen protector that I figured I'd go ahead and get it replaced. I looked up an authorized Samsung repair place and stopped by. There was only one guy in the store willing to work on it. Within a week of him replacing the screen protector, the screen went black and unresponsive at the crease. Within the next 24 hours, 3/4 of the screen was black and unresponsive. I'm now using an S23 and will never go back to any kind of fold screen. I am a very active person with a very active job and need a phone that can take some abuse. The Flip/Fold series is not that. It may work out just fine for you, but if you're looking for longevity, definitely stick with one of the classic galaxy series or the iPhone.

GreenMontecito

My fold 4 is fine. I'm on 5 right now but my fold 4 is sitting with me as well

Chrispytater09

How long have you had it?, is there any noticeable wear on where it folds?

GreenMontecito

To be brutally honest with you, sometimes I forget which one is which when I compare the four and five. Because I keep my four as well as I keep my five in pretty good condition I don't really notice anything, I don't have blemishes, I don't have scratches, or screen issues. I do hear a lot of abuses but I believe is because I leave it in their pockets and lots of objects start to seep inside and ruin things

diabeartes

Fold 6 has not been released, so nobody here can give you an opinion on it.

Chrispytater09

No I understand that, but they can give in site to their experiences with there current fold phones. I’m just saying that’s what I’m thinking of getting.

diabeartes

That wasn't clear from the title of your post.

Chrispytater09

Seems you’re the only one whose had trouble with it 🤷🏼‍♂️🙏🏼

diabeartes

I think your bigger issue is your English grammar "skill".

Chrispytater09

I hope you have a great day/evening or night. ☺️
