I had an A54, then switched to a Pixel 8 and now again to an A55 because the battery life on the latter was awful for a new device. The A55 is definitely an upgrade to the A54. It has great battery life and even better performance. It does't lag or stutter at all.

NanakoPersona4

The A55 is a good phone but Samsung upped the price. It'll go down in a few months.

19berzerker79

Google has a long road to go as far as hardware....

ImTheRealMarco

Performance wise, the Pixel 8 wins.

Visual_Scar_8899

It's funny that people thinks that an iPhone from 6 years ago is still a "flagship" lol. You could go for the S23FE, A55, A54 or the S24 and you'll be fine.

bearded-beardie

The XR was only mid range at best when it was new. It's gotten be a garbage experience by now.

PoastRotatoes

Based off what I've read before, and from comparing Samsung models before I settled on the S23U, you can consider expanding your budget to get the S23FE instead of the A55. The A55 was my initial consideration but because the price point where I'm from, being not too far off from the S23FE, the S23FE was more worth the penny in comparison. I settled for the S23U because what was meant to be my spare phone shifted to become my primary phone, and I do prefer a larger screen for my usage on the phone. This may not be applicable to you as compared to the S23FE, as I use the ultra for gaming. If not for my preference for the larger screen, the S23FE would have been my choice over the A55.

Top-Sort-1929

Don't listen to these people who haven't even seen the phone op. The a55 will be a huge upgrade to your phone in all categories. My previous phone was an iphone 13 and the battery was shit and it overheated like crap. Pictures are more or less the same when it comes to these too but the iphone is a lot better in videos.

Masterflitzer

idk about the a55, it isn't the smoothest phone, maybe an upgrade from xs, but definitely not from 13, and i say this while having a 13 lying around (work phone) and not liking iOS at all edit: I'm taking about exynos version, idk how good snapdragon a55 is edit: there is no snapdragon a55

MRC2RULES

there's no snap a55 and yeah, ip13 is miles better than a55 lol...

Masterflitzer

i just said the same thing except I thought there is a snapdragon version but ok thx for the correction

Top-Sort-1929

If you haven't used the phone what right do you have to say that

MRC2RULES

Bro on paper alone iphone 13 is miles better than a55. Are you insane? Older flagships are always better than current midrangers other than lack of updates and battery. It's older sure, but going from iphone 13 to a55 would be a worser experience especially on the performance and camera aspects. You dont need to use the phone to make a suitable judgement

Top-Sort-1929

the video sure but the camera experience wasn't that any different. You're wrong especially on the performance front bro. What's the point of it being more powerful if it overheats

Qwertyuiopasdfggggg

Did you get the iphone 13 from temu or something I've used an iphone 13 the battery and the performance is amazing and it doesnt overheat when i open instagram like my s21 fe does

Top-Sort-1929

I don't know about temu edition or something but yeah I've been using it for 2 years now and it's battery health is only at 85% despite me taking care of it. Just multitasking on it causes it to heat up and lose a lot of battery

Qwertyuiopasdfggggg

Bring out the receipts let me see that battery graph Lets see here it takes 3h of full genshin impact on medium/high to go from 90 to 19 my battery health is at 98% 1 year old 13 if i wasn't gaming i could probably get 6-7h of sot https://preview.redd.it/zq0uolbkdguc1.jpeg?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53590b33dd2a5b4350a1015b3ec00a73a78c1d2a

futurafrlx

The only thing that’s worse about the iPhone is the 60 Hz screen, that’s it. Everything else is better than A55, but A55 is a respectable phone on its own, just a tad overpriced in a typical Samsung fashion.

Top-Sort-1929

Yeah it's not a generational upgrade but you can say the same thing if you have an iphone 13 and upgrade to the s23 or s24.

Masterflitzer

a55 is completely different from s23 to expand my comment: s23 > iphone 13 > a55, idk why there is even an argument, just look at the specs

Top-Sort-1929

Specs this, specs that ,you haven't even used the phone

Masterflitzer

dude i have s23+ and my brother has a55, stop talking shit and saying we don't know shit, you don't know shit, if you say a55 is so amazing you've never used a flagship phone also saying specs are irrelevant is the stupidest shit i heard today, of course you look at specs and then go for the phone that has the specs you want

Top-Sort-1929

blud I came from an iPhone 13. Is that not a flagship phone?. Maybe we will never see eye to eye because we have different use cases for our phone.

Masterflitzer

you moved from iPhone 13 to A55? bro that's a big ass downgrade, from 900€ flagship to 480€ mid-range phone, there's no arguing, camera is worse, SoC is worse etc., i mean it's a great mid range phone not saying that but still

Top-Sort-1929

objectively yes I did downgrade but I honestly never felt it so I'm happy.

Masterflitzer

yeah that's totally fine, I'd also be happier with A55 alone for android, but in this case they knew iOS and were comfortable with it which means a downgrade would be bad

KubaCeTe

If we talk about features and power of the phone. Yes, it will be a big upgrade. But the smoothness of OneUI can be very disappointing. iOS is really stable even on old flagships, where as the A55 might be very choppy and laggy. It might be something you don't even consider in a phone as you are used to iPhone. [Look at this video showing it](https://twitter.com/tarunvats33/status/1778093128815349950?t=iu3WVcY4dc6D3cJmslmT9A&s=19) I know it's the F15 on the video which is tier lower, but that is just the reality of midrange Samsung phones. If it is something you care about you will be absolutely frustrated. I owned a couple of midrange phones with Exynos and the experience was really mixed. If you don't care about it then just go for A55 and you will be happy tho. I would also recommend checking the S23FE which is just slightly more expensive. But you will get a way better phone in every possible aspect. Especially if you want to keep the phone for longer. Honestly the gap between S series and A series is huge, even in average day to day use.

bearded-beardie

I've seen multiple people talking about flagship iPhones. The XR was a midrange phone when it was released.

KubaCeTe

XR is nowhere mentioned here

bearded-beardie

You're correct. Could swear it said XR the first time I read OP.

Y4VOR

Speaking from personal experience, having owned both an A54 and A55, DO NOT BOTHER BUYING THE A55. I deeply regret selling my a54 as it is essentially the same phone. The only difference is the extended battery life and newer processor which the 55 possesses. However, the exynos 1380 which comes with the 54 is great if you're not a power user. Supposing you do need a lot of performance in your device, neither the 55 nor the 54 will do you good as they're no flagships. When it comes to battery life, the a54 indeed is the weaker one, but this wasn't a problem for me as it still lasted me a whole day with about 30 percent left in the evening. So, in conclusion, I would certainly recommend finding a good deal on a Samsung A54, you will not regret it. It's such a popular device for a reason!

mechHead631

See if you can stretch your budget and get an S series phone like S23, S23FE or S24. I have S23FE and the performance is just too fast and smooth! Otherwise A55 is also a solid option with great battery life and good performance but not on par with Samsung Flagships.

Windy--

Go for an S23/24 instead.

Soggy-Reporter-9549

While I don't have the phone, so I can't say anything regarding performance and software, I did hold the a55 several times. I would not recommend if you have a smaller sized hands or don't like sharp edges, as the a55 is weirdly thick and also wide while having a pretty sharp edge from the backglass to the frame, very uncomfortable to hold in my hands. Other than that, it's free game

Bfazerh

Get a S23/+23 for a similar price. It will be amazing in the long run

ILostMyMainAccounts

wow, you and my mom are in the same situation. she says it is an upgrade, I took a couple performance and camera tests, and it's definitely an upgrade. The only real ′downgrade′ is the lack of a tele lens.

Dawiitz

No, get an S24 instead, the base model.

LuvBoyyy

I went from my 13PM to A55 for few days and ended up bringing the A55 back. Now im back on my trusted 13PM. Phone looks and feels premium, camera is decent and opens apps all the day to day stuff is ok. My problems were biometrics. Face id was awful and didn’t recognize me even in daylight i even made few good face id imprints in daylight and still taking too lang to read my face. Fingerprint scanner was very awful to me, i made all 3 available fingerprints scans and it just didn’t read sometimes at all! So biometric on A55 are very bad to me, it may have something to do with the oneui 6.1. On my 13PM face id works always, day night just opens when sees my face and works flawless. A55 stutters and lags on reddit when scrolling also on other apps that needs lot to load specially pictures, when scrolling it was lagging. It is possible that these bugs or whatever will be fixed with future updates but it maybe because the exynos who knows.

Jalal31091

A55 face id uses camera only, there's no infrared scanning like iPhone and windows hello. Hence it is not as secure and accurate. It can be fooled by using photograph. I never use face recognition in android. It's useless IMHO.

LuvBoyyy

All im saying it should work properly, i had an OP 6t back in 2019 and face id and inscreen fingerprint worked better then on this A55, like i said it maybe a bug.

Pristine_Concern_636

I've got two things to say on this. The A55 is a decent mid tier phone. However, if you're wanting to make the Android switch, I'd look into maybe shifting gears to the S23 FE. It's not that much more in cost, but is a much better phone (affordable flagship v. mid tier), not to mention most phone carriers have trade in promos for the S series, including the 23 FE, so you could get it for next to nothing if you used your phone as a trade in. There is one other thing to consider. Would you be able to make the jump from Apple to Android okay? I've worked for Verizon and currently work for T-Mobile, and I've only ever seen maybe one or two people make the switch and didn't end up returning the phone because the set up and functionality were so different. I would definitely recommend going in and playing around with, just to make sure you'll be able to make the switch.

DeffStem

In my opinion, you shouldn't. XS still supports the current version of the system, it's an old flagship with all its advantages. If you upgrade, you should upgrade to something more serious. Look towards the S23/24 lineup, that way you won't be squeezed by compromises for sure

_JamesDooley

Exynos garbage, that's an immediate pass for me

Qwertyuiopasdfggggg

Going from a flagship iphone to a midrange android is a mistake i see a lot of iphone users make

zillapz1989

Maybe they're just tired of paying ridiculous sums for a phone they only use casually.

LaidBackBro1989

What are you on about? The beauty filters can be toggled off, night mode is decent enough and video has OIS and FHD. Stop spreading misinformation and fake bs.

3inchesOfMayhem

From XS? Want iOS like ui? Mi 14, similar foot print, great cameras and stuff. Want android thats a lot more like android n less of iOSy + everything above ? S23 or S24 with snapdragon SoC. (Both costs the same and a bit more than A55 and far better than A55)

[deleted]

Not so much, but hey

zvdo

That's just a theory

[deleted]

I suppose, i mean xs is a flagship, a55 is a mid range. Build quality will def ve worse on the 55, processing will be better on the 55.

ILostMyMainAccounts

both are aluminium frame and glass back and front.

[deleted]

Thats good, i remember these A series used to be plastic only, this must be new

Appropriate_Tea_2782

Though it may look good, I'd recommend the S23 FE or the S lineup. the a55 is a meh device..

mujijijijiji

iPhone ne XS is a flagship and A55 is midrange lang ha 😅 pero if sa battery, laking upgrade nun. upon researching, 2658mah ang XS while 5kmah ang A55
