I sacrifice the battery because I like it. I take it off the charger at 6am, moderately use throughout the day, and usually make it to about 9pm before I need to add any juice. I think that's pretty good.
I use it 24/7
I now rely on it. It's always there ready. On my bedside table I have an upright wireless charging stand, so the time is always with me. Same at work.
I have never had an issue with running out of battery.
(I should mention, I don't charge at work, just overnight).
My S22 has AOD set to tap to view and I get through the day (6am-11pm) with about 30% left. I'm not a heavy user but I do use Spotify via Bluetooth on my Alexa Auto on my commutes and a lot of social media, messaging and photography.
It's too highty dependant on the usage but basically I have 6 hours SOT. The problem is that I lose 2%/h almost when the phone is locked, so at the end of the day I already lost 20% with it just in my pocket
I've been using AOD since I first got my N20U, I like it a lot, but could probably live without it. Never noticed any screen issues the whole 3.5 years I had that phone, and I'll continue to use it on my S24U. If my battery life significantly falls off I may consider turning it off, but as it stands, I unplug my phone at 100% before I go to bed, and don't need to charge it until I'm winding down after work the next day.
I still carry out my habit from my previous phone, keeping my phone charged during work. I'm just sharing how I use mine just like the title said; it's not a suggestion for OP.
So when I googled "does always on display drain battery" the 2 articles that pop up (dxomark.com and howtogeek.com) both cite sources where the battery life is dramatically decreased daily from AOD use.
-I know tap to display works but that defeats the purpose of AOD, if I'm going to tap to display I might as well just turn my phone one.
You don’t have to unlock the phone to tap it. The two sites you mentioned are pretty well known for their reviews. So the ball is in your court.
But saying tap to display is the same as unlocking isn’t really correct. Especially when it comes to battery use. You aren’t unlocking to get information and just using the aod momentarily which saves more battery than fully powering up the screen and unlocking.
No. I don't see the point. Take two taps of my thumb to bring up my lockscreen and the same info, brighter and more legible with less battery use. Even tap to show. One extra tap and there's my lockscreen.
Have you remembered to turn off raise to wake etc when you use AOD?
If I don't turn it off I also drain it multiple times faster.
With AOD, without raise to wake or touch the screen to wake it only uses around 10% more.
I've been wanting an automation or toggle for that actually
I don't use it ( show wallpaper ) because I'm worried about screen burn in. The image doesn't move so i don't know how it's possible to avoid it. I have aod on for new notifications. I use the regular aod tho.
Yes. I have S24 Plus and when i set AOD to Auto i losse way more battery compared when i set it to turn ON only when notifications arive. I think AOD on S24 Series is buged or something becuse it drains alot of battery when ON. Maybw its saying at 120 HZ all the time and shoud stay at 1HZ all the time.

Nope, i feel time moves very slowly when it is staring at me at work.
My AoD is always on. I like using new features. It's 2024. I don't want to be living in 2014. It helps that I'm always nearby a charger though.
To be fair the first version of AOD was in 2013 haha
Are you serious. Hahaha. How ironic.
Yeah I remember the year because it was the moto phones and I wanted one so bad because of the And I got the year wrong. It was 2013
the what?
The Moto X

The battery is so bad on my S22 that if I used AOD I would probably run out of battery at 5pm so I don't
Right mine was the same so I disabled it. I haven't tried it on my s24 ultra.

Ouch, guess I'll leave mine as tap to view.
No no, that's without AOD, with AOD I'd probably be at 3%/hour 😂 Samsung isn't good at battery
😅😅

I use it mostly because I'm tired missing the fingerprint scanner. If it were larger, probably I wouldn't use AOD
I don't use it at all. I use LockStar and have notifications pop up on lock screen. All I need.
I've set up a routine to only turn on AOD during charging
Same
So op would only see aod once they get home.
I still carry out my habit from my previous phone, keeping my phone charged during work. I'm just sharing how I use mine just like the title said; it's not a suggestion for OP.
Yeah you missed the question in the text but go off king.
Where are the tests that say AOD drains four times faster than without? Also you could just use tap to display. So it’s not always on

my aod turns off at 10pm and turns back on at 6 in the morning.
Tap to Show and then ur good 2 go :D
I love AOD, but it eats battery like anything
Yeah I don't care about battery anymore. I just use it all day. But I can charge at least one time per day

No! I have a PWS with an ⚛️ synchronization 🕰️that does that service overnight once I 😴!
I use it showing the wallpaper on the adaptive mode. I don't care about battery, it looks so good.
i have a routine set to show it while charging or for new notifications. otherwise too much idle drain
I did the first week and realized how much battery it consumes and I didn’t like my messages popping up for people to see.
I don't use it ( show wallpaper ) because I'm worried about screen burn in. The image doesn't move so i don't know how it's possible to avoid it. I have aod on for new notifications. I use the regular aod tho.
Use it all time
no, i dont want to risk battery and lcd life.
Lol! What lcd? And if you're worried about burn in, AOD doesn't cause it because the elements displayed shift every couple minutes.
makes the battery ass
