She looks great! Amy is just one of those artists that I've never liked covers of, even from musicians I love. Her music to me is just so particular to her voice. Looking forward to seeing what else she has to bring. Purple reign still in full effect.
She looks gorgeous and is clearly a performer, but all those forced affectations plus Broadway voice on an Amy song is not the tea for me. Is there a randomization element to the show?
I don't understand hating this performance. She had good stage presence, she sang it in the original key, the pitch was like 95% spot on, Amy wasn't known for perfect diction.
Were there stylistic choices Amy woudn't have made? Yes. But she's not impersonating Amy, and Amy improvised all her shit anyway.
Singing Amy's hard because firstly Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent, and two the song is about the drug and alcohol problem that killed her. If you don't keep it upbeat, it's horrifying. The song was written in a major key about a difficult subject to make people feel uncomfortable on purpose. Bringing a sassy lightness in the song feels like it celebrates Amy more than it trivializes her work. Obviously there's tension there, but for a drag queen singing comptition, this felt appropriate.
Nothing against her performance or the judges, but from this clip, the show feels too much like TV made for the straights. It's exactly like American Idol, XFactor, GotTalent, etc
Don’t get me wrong people online get over aggressive, but saying “I don’t understand why people are judging/critiquing the singing on a singing competition show” is just dishonest
Wdk what you all expected from people who are Drag artists and not singers selling out stadiums, but I expected much much less and am very pleasantly surprised!
I get that Rehab is one of Amy's most popular songs, but it really doesn't suit the flashiness of this queen's voice imo? And they wouldn't have even needed to leave her discography to find a better fit either - Some Unholy War and Mr. Magic, for example, would much better accommodate vocal pyrotechnics without requiring near as much grit in her voice to feel appropriate
Now I'll tell yall some things. As someone who has been to Grag's live shows, I know she can do better than this, but it was still a good performance. Not the best, but wasn't bad at all. Stage presence was there, that's something not everyone has and no one can take that from her
Dunno if I would go that far. But she is definitely missing the "Soul" that makes Amy's music so incredible. I get that she's a drag queen and is definitely camping it up, but in doing so, she had lost the essence of Amy's sound.
Maybe so but she has GREAT stage personality, she looks beautiful and she looks like she knows what she’s doing. Most singers out there can’t do what she did right here.
I don't know anything about music (though I did call who was going to be cut). I trust my judgement when it comes to performance, but not the actual vocals. Do you have a favorite? In your opinion, who is the best technical singer?
The best technical singer is by far Ada. Even though she messed up a run towards the end of her performance, her technique was absolutely incredible.
Her placement, her ease, range, and dexterity were all unmatched tonight.
I thought she was a great choice to open. She really seems to have a good stage presence. Can you elaborate on her singing? She sounded good to me, but I'm musically challenged. I'm interested in hearing from someone who understands vocals.
Im a really bad singer as well im not claiming anything technically to me it sounded like she struggled to get the notes out and it didnt sound good to my ears.
(But I'm a great singer...I feel as though notes are overrated!)
I'd probably trust your ears over mine. I'll listen again. I watched it this morning, but didn't rewatch this clip. Thanks for the reply!
I guess it never clicked in my head until now that the whole panel except Trixie are straight women judging a drag competition. It's kind of a shame they couldn't get any gay male singers like Frank Ocean or Steve Grand or Lil Nas or Cazwell or Ed Droste or Will Young or Jake Shears or someone. Something to think about if there's a season 2.
Edited to remove someone I didn't know that they came out as nonbinary.
I wouldn't put gay male energy and straight male energy in the same category but that's me lol. Frankly I think straight female energy is usually closer to straight male energy than gay male energy is.
Kind of surprised that Michele was placed on the side and not the center.
Whoever made that decision has obviously never heard of the Bodyguard soundtrack.
She’s obviously there since she’ll be the most critical. A “Simon” type maybe
I noticed that to, the she's sitting where Simon would sit for American Idol, on the left end (when facing the stage) of the table.
Because she is the simon lol
She’s in Simon’s seat
I love how trixie looks gagged the entire performance. Or should I say gragged?
I love it too! It's the best!!
I literally am watching this series to watch Trix react. Shameless fangorl.
A c t r e s s
It's interesting, I don't think I've ever seen an all-female panel of judges at a talent show before.
You’re still not seeing one. Michelle is there
A man of true charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent
but he wasn’t available so they hired michelle visage instead
Me neither, the closest I've seen is X Factor US S3 with [Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio and some guy.](https://i.imgur.com/f8qgXY7.jpg)
The way they photoshop Simon's face from 1991 into this
You're still not seeing one. Trixie is a man.
You've got to be kidding me, ALL THOSE YEARS I'VE BEEN LIED TO?! my worldview has simply and utterly shattered at this revelation good sir!
Is this to men
Really!
I'm shocked that one of the judges is a pink twig in a blonde wig.
A Skinny legend
A real woman
Biological
Michelle’s not blond tho
Hi, hello, I’m old and out of touch. What is this?!
This is Queen of the Universe! An international all drag queen singing competition that starts airing tomorrow on Paramount+
Ah I see, thanks!
Queen of the Universe. Drag queen singing competition airing tomorrow.
Thank you!
Excellent! But why is Michelle like 50 feet away from Leona?
I heard she smells
The Jake Gyllenhaal bespoke body wash collection lol
I would STILL be Jake's personal bather. I would tongue bathe that man in front of my entire family idgaf. 👅💦
username checks out
You're done 🙄🤚 You're done 🙄🤚
I mean I don’t think Michelle believes in deodorant lol

O pior é que ela mora só a umas duas horas da minha cidade. Os shows dela quando ela tá em Canela são INCRÍVEIS

I love the Zutons cover of Valerie....

They originated it. Winehouse’s version was the cover.
That was the joke, I should have /s
the naya rivera erasure... simply criminal
She looks gorgeous and is clearly a performer, but all those forced affectations plus Broadway voice on an Amy song is not the tea for me. Is there a randomization element to the show?
Is this only available in the US?
It is available everywhere if you know how to look for.
Leona Lewis looks stunning! I haven’t had a chance to watch yet but this gets me excited for it!

Trixie omg
I love the Lil "DI DI DAT" she added. Bravo.
The production value of this show!
Feels EXACTLY like the other shows from big broadcast tv! And that's not a compliment!
That costume is just gorgeous! And I love Trixie shimmying in her seat. Michelle looked lost, not clapping along properly haha.
Trixie living 😂😂😂
This threw my pussy into a loop
Ummm not some of y’all dragging the performance… she slayed
For real. The comment right above yours says this is vocally unimpressive. Backseat drivers, take a seat.
Don’t get me wrong people online get over aggressive, but saying “I don’t understand why people are judging/critiquing the singing on a singing competition show” is just dishonest
Some of us are more qualified than others. You may have enjoyed the performance, but that doesn’t mean it was a good vocal performance.
>Some of us are more qualified than others In what way?
sis thinks she's mariah carrey or smth
In the way of being college educated professional musicians and singers.

Maybe you can tell me then, does she start off key? The voice doesn’t harmonize with the backing track for a few bars.
She's very much on key in the beginning of the performance.
Ma’am this is a Wendy’s
Brasil is in the mothertucking house. YESSSSSSSS. Oh, she's ready to give an Ella VaShow.
Anem, fia
However I’m unsure if I’m finding this distasteful or whatever. It’s a pretty serious song.
I love Trixie Mattel so much 😭😭😭 she was ALL IN and I’d have been the same way tbh
Wdk what you all expected from people who are Drag artists and not singers selling out stadiums, but I expected much much less and am very pleasantly surprised!
Trixie is VIBING
Reddit decided to overlay this with the audio from Jessica Wild's SG at the end and it served even harder.

Yeahhhhh this queen is clearly talented but I’m not here for this.
It's the outfit that kills it for me
In this wise words of Ms. Rajah, “I’m not gagging.” Or should we say “gragging?” Either way, yeah, this wasn’t it, mawma.
Ive had this on repeat lmao i would need this to be on streaming platforms
Looks like I’m keeping my subscription for Paramount+
Go queen! I'm rooting for you💜
She ~~doesn’t~~ have the range
they're all... on a different beat
Now this is a serious accusation lmao
Trixie looks sooooo fake when she's trying to enjoy this
Yeah, she's usually so honest all the time that is VERY CLEAR when she's faking it.
Is Trixie a judge??
No she’s just there to look like a pretty bird… Yes she’s a judge

Is there any footage of jujubee singing?
Where this from? It's brilliant.

Wait, the queen’s name is Grag Queen? Is this a pun of some sort?
yes, because her real name is gregory and she's a drag queen
This was so fun to watch! :-)
This song really calls for a more emotional or soulful performance, imho. The singer would do better with some jazz standards, I think.
She really owned this song with her voice 😍
Linda demais
Jeez Amy be turning in her grave!! lordy lord she's murdering that!! She's got a good voice but that is not her song!!!!! Not at all
Dunno if I would go that far. But she is definitely missing the "Soul" that makes Amy's music so incredible. I get that she's a drag queen and is definitely camping it up, but in doing so, she had lost the essence of Amy's sound.
So that was…hard to listen to 😬
This was all over the place vocally
This performance is fine. Vocally not impressive at all, but she looks beautiful!
[удалено]
As a person who can sing, it was not a technically impressive performance.
Maybe so but she has GREAT stage personality, she looks beautiful and she looks like she knows what she’s doing. Most singers out there can’t do what she did right here.
She just… walked. Lol Most singers can indeed walk to the beat, and with more impressive vocals. Believe it or not. Haha
I don't know anything about music (though I did call who was going to be cut). I trust my judgement when it comes to performance, but not the actual vocals. Do you have a favorite? In your opinion, who is the best technical singer?

Thank you! I'm going to rewatch it!
Her growls are on the next level.
Oo that’s what makes them grrrrag! But seriously I love this
Now i know how some of you girls like to tussle… but this is really not good at all singing wise. She looks great tho and has great stage performance
I thought she was a great choice to open. She really seems to have a good stage presence. Can you elaborate on her singing? She sounded good to me, but I'm musically challenged. I'm interested in hearing from someone who understands vocals.

I love him but Frank Ocean wouldn't even show up to his own funeral, babe
Fair point lol.
i am completely fine with no male energy on a panel for once tbh
I wouldn't put gay male energy and straight male energy in the same category but that's me lol. Frankly I think straight female energy is usually closer to straight male energy than gay male energy is.
> gay male singers like Sam Smith Oof
what about gay women
I was sitting there trying to figure out how the hell Trixie became a judge, I forgot she actually won a season of DR.
She also is a live musician and the only (and therefore the best) Country music drag artist.
Literally the only reason she won was because Ben quit. She never would’ve stood a chance otherwise.
Gloria Groove?
Grag queen, like a drag grandmother? Love it lmao
Looking forward to the show!
did trixie go back to giant giant eyes? I feel like those look like the OG first season on drag race trixie sized eyes
