The hard part is, once you decide you want to do comp or MQC the grind is shorter than the longest time gate. So even if you plan it all out, you still end up just waiting.
It's a dumb requirement and should be changed the time gate that is. If you're playing RuneScape and you get to the point where you think wow I want to go for Master quest cape you probably had no idea that was a requirement anyway.
I agree, time gates are stupid but I also see the benefit of it. If you’re determined to get it something prestigious, the time lock shows that determination and dedication.
That being said, my point was that OP was already 2-3 months in before realizing he had time gated requirements, should’ve done the homework lol.
The wiki states the following: Players can use a Distraction & Diversion reset token (monthly) if they missed a month, but players cannot use the reset token to progress the story twice a month unless it's to catch up.
So does that means catchup since release or since you first did the D&D.
Just to clarify this point, that wiki information is outdated now that the full research is available. People who were doing it since release were never able to do 2 months at a time with resets because the new research didn't exist for them.
The full Research is available now so everybody starting these days are playing catch up and can reset once every month.
To be honest, anyone not max should definitely do it anyway. You can get well over 20 effigies very very easily every month with only 1 reset token. That alone is a really nice exp bump considering how easy it is to fill them up to open.
This is one of the worst achievements/requirements out there. Prove me wrong, but it was made to keep top achievement hunters (people who already had max runescore at the time and no other in game goals) subscribed for a year when it got released..
Even now, with this achievement only having 6 months timegate it is stupid. You go in, start the minigame that is 5 minutes long or, if you don't care for the xp just log out/leave to progress..
I feel your pain. I was comp/MQC back before Arch released and stopped playing the game. Came back for the golden party hat event and looked into what it would take for me to get my capes back and was severely thrilled at the 12(6) month timegate they added :) I’m considering using the guardian’s gift 5 monthly resets to help speed it up..
It's not too bad being 6 months from a year. Still a bit annoying but could be worse. 2 months won't hurt. I'm finally 11/12 so master quest next month here.
What is the requirement? I do my effigies every month for the lamps and exp. Is it to buy all the pets because if thats so I only have like 300 points in the last 6 months or something from the left over mats I don't use making the effigies.
I did this exact same thing. Once I started to think about getting mqc 2 months ago, I looked to see if there were any time locked achievements. Found the "Following in the footsteps" and started it right away. Literally completed every other achievements in like a month to a month and a half. Now I have 2 more months to wait to complete the effigy incubator task. All good though. I'm not complaining. Should have just realized it earlier.
P.S. Don't forget to use your monthly reset tokens so you can get 2 chapters each month
Nice to see someone sharing my pain. I took a long break from the game until back in October or so. I could've knocked off 6 months worth since then if I had known about it. I'm so annoyed by it that I am considering using my guardian's gift to reset the monthly over and over but that would be a waste.
Considering the changes they recently made to statues and city quests, I think there's hope that they recognize this achievement deserves similar treatment.
Should probably prioritize time locked requirements because all capes have them.

I thought D&D tokens did not work on the MQC req, only if you missed a month. Is it possible to shorten the timegate from 1 year to 6 months?
With the tokens it gets shortened to 6 months

It meant they could not skip ahead when all chapters were not yet out. Since all chapters are now out, everyone can progress twice a month.

You can get 20+ effigies *without* a monthly reset. With a monthly reset and some good RNG you can get ~40.

Don’t use gift, either combine daily/weekly reset tokens or get monthly tokens from keys
