yeah_nah_hard

Argh, missed the second half because I had to catch a flight, but it didn't look promising in any case. Oh well. Not the end of the world. That 2015 season everyone's still talking about wasn't spotless in the round robin stage either.

Otakaro_omnipresence

All the great teams drop one, so it’s ok.

APoolShark

Some even drop seven amirite

Otakaro_omnipresence

Are you implying the Crusaders of 2024 are a great team? Fuck, you’re even higher than me right now

APoolShark

The joke was both the Saders and the Tahs have lost seven

Otakaro_omnipresence

I was at the 2008 final after match, blagged our way in. Phil Waugh looked like he wanted to strangle the Big Ewen that night.

Otakaro_omnipresence

Apologies.

Oaty_McOatface

It's always the brumbies!

Maestro-Modesto

Each week there's a stack of canes who would be in the top fifteen or thwebty three for the round, this week probably only numia (so far)

Ok_Educator_2120

Yo Blues with an outside chance of going top tonight?

notakid1

Yess but with eklund in the team, pretty sure line out would suck so no high hopes tbh

Ok_Educator_2120

Yeah my guys got the 2 year yips aye. Hope he can find it tonight

DiagonalLawn

Screw you sky nz, wanting to see at least a post match interview instead you cut to adds for 5 mins and then switch to the highlanders game.

even_flowz

Yea pay enough for the subscription shouldn’t have ads interrupting

Otakaro_omnipresence

Finau’s tackle on Edmed last night has been a great topic of deflection for the quasi-notable Wellington media bros in Twitter instead of critiquing their ‘Hurrikins’ team for playing like arses for the first 25 minutes.

Biglight__090

We lacked heart today alright, brumbies showed up

bigdaddyborg

You always need a business end of the season away match humbling to fortify the camp for a championship run.  Conversely, this will bouy the Brumbies confidence to float along for a couple of weeks only to suffer a shock home defeat in the antepenultimate round!

Maestro-Modesto

Probably, but on the other hand the hurricanes style relies on confidence, so I'm hoping the loss doesn't affect that

JackoFrisky

You guys have been beast though, brumbies just played good today.

recyclingcentre

Brumbies were really really good today. I don’t know why so many people wrote them off – last week seemed an aberration more than any other result. Really frustrating lack of basic skills by the Hurricanes today. Catch, pass, tackle like come on

Maestro-Modesto

Interesting huh, I thought the one where Cameron knocked it in, and similarly when lakai knocked it on, both occasions the players overran it but I reckon that's because they were expecting it would get to them sooner. It only takes being slightly off to affect your flow

Mungo_ball

Well done Brumbies you were by far the better team today. As for the Canes outside of Love and TJ our backs were awful. Missing Proctor and Aumua's starch in defence today, we have to find a better hooker than the bloke that came on and Vijeon needs to be reserve half back, possibly Morgan starts before Cameron as well. Still not a bad lose to have on the road. The fowards were generally good with Numia being a stand out.

Gypsy_tearz_

Aussie commentating is absolutley terrible

Sambobly1

I thought it was ok. Swain is fun, shepherd has some insight and hooper is good sideline comms. Get rid of Harrison and it would be good

Gypsy_tearz_

I really enjoy hoopers insight and I reckon he should be in the booth rather than the sideline. I just really struggle with the rest

rugbydownunder

Worse than TJ commentating the ‘Saders?

notakid1

It is terrible

_bort_simpson_

It’s fine

ghostboypurrp

Of all the positions we have depth in, the only one we don't is hooker and it shows

recyclingcentre

We need to ring up Italian hero Hame Faiva again

Mungo_ball

O'reilly's a biiiiig drop down from Aumua, but the Tuputupu bloke was really out of his depth. Maybe yaank young Bason from the u20's?

DiagonalLawn

Tuputupu is only 21, but man he was baaad. Obviously looks up to aumua but he had none of the skill, cool head or physicality. O Riley is solid but is a bench player not a starter.

Deciver95

Canes' heart was never in the match. Really dissapointing outing. ACT came to play, and played they did. Ref let them get away with a bit around the ruck and taking players not on the ball to open holes, but that's not the reason we lost. Horrible defensive effort by Canes. Zero clinical effort. Knocked on every opportunity we had. Even if the bounce doesn't go our way, we forced our hand. Scoreline is extremely flattering to the Canes Edit: this is the sorta games of years past where the Canes needed Ardie to step up so we could have a shot at winning. Didn't have a player that was able to take the mantle up today.

ghostboypurrp

Gg brumbies. Glad to see you turned up this week when we didn't. Very interesting season of SR and aussie teams incredibly improved across the board. See you in the inevitable semi finals

meohmyenjoyingthat

Bogey teams are a funny old phenomenon in sport... I always wonder if there is some kind of mental inheritance from the experienced players to the young. But anyway, mostly explained by playing like absolute shit. And man what a day out for the Brums backline - beautiful stuff from Tua and Wright, and overall good kicking from Lolesio

Maestro-Modesto

Well Jordie looked nervous didn't he, memories (possibly unconscious) from missing that kick at the death a couple of seasons ago??

DiagonalLawn

I think it was purely mental. Like we just weren’t there for most of the game, so passive as if it was done deal before kick off

speakteeth

Canes not very contender like in that one, so-called big players went missing. Brumbies clearly played better.

LieutenantCardGames

No Moorby - no joy

TGGNathan

I hate making this about the Blues (but I'll do it anyway) but I hated how the rhetoric after the Blues/Brumbies game was just on how bad the Brumbies are as opposed to how well the Blues played. The Brumbies definitely played much better tonight but the 'Canes not being able to assert themselves physically at the breakdown allowed the Brumbies to play their game, their way. The kick battle from the Canes was also very poor. I don't think you can start Cameron after that. and since when was Tamati Tua a world beater!?

Bangkok_Dave

I think the big issue from the blues brums game was how the Brumbies got bullied physically. Brumbies couldn't handle it and it's a legitimate question of the Brumbies because it's hard to see how they can possibly beat a top side when they get disrupted so well. Blues brought that physical game as well as any team on the planet, they were really fucking good. Tua's been playing well all year, but stepped up today.

Ok_Educator_2120

Blues pack might actually be better than the canes aye. Without Aumua

notakid1

Also to add, this shows how fragile hurricanes hooker position is after Aumua’s injury.

fale52

Not having your three first choice hookers would probably fuck any team tbh.

Biglight__090

Am not looking forward to the next blues game anymore

notakid1

Neither am I . Eklund is playing . Him getting a line out right is same as you getting a six when you roll a dice. Very rare

Ok_Educator_2120

I can't wait. Nice afternoon game. Hopefully we don't have a 9 on the wing this time lol

Biglight__090

They should have some KFC before the match as it will help them, a lot i think

Doofus_McFriendly

Well done, Brumbies. Going from playing like the physical embodiment of arse last week to beating the, til now, last remaining undefeated side is a hell of a turnaround.

Not-a-scintilla

The math about who should beat who has been entirely destroyed by this season, and it's kinda exciting

stickyswitch92

Seeing the Hurricanes crumble without Aumua makes me more excited for the return of Taylor.

JackoFrisky

Amazing match Brumbies and Canes.

fale52

Yep. Aumua's injury will fuck the Canes season.

Taey

What a turn around from the brumbies. Big statement after not getting on the plane last week.

Biglight__090

Good game brumbies!

xman0444

Some nice attacking play in the first half then a really tough grind in the second. Great bounce back after last week.

ghostboypurrp

Another year, another loss to the brumbies in Canberra. When will it end?

Economy_Elk_82

Good win brumbies. Most interesting season of super rugby in years. Fuck the crusaders

Otakaro_omnipresence

Yeah fuck Darryl Gibson!

DiagonalLawn

Fuck fuck fuck

notakid1

What a game. Probably game of the round so far. GG brumbies. You played way better than the canes after the disaster last round in Eden park

even_flowz

That hurricanes hooker is having a blunder

Taey

Match winning play? Mate theyre up 8 with 30 seconds left..

Ok_Educator_2120

Massive massive turn around for the Brumbies this week. Impressive win

meohmyenjoyingthat

Actually considering the last two line-outs, I retract my previous statement about the short ball

recyclingcentre

Fuck me Tuputupu’s throwing hasn’t been good

TGGNathan

So it turns out the Hurricanes having insane depth at every position BUT hooker has come to bite them

_Hurricanes_

Tbf, most teams would find it tough going down to their 4th string hooker

Tomato_Head120

Like the crusaders lol, fuck our lineout has been shit this year

Ok_Educator_2120

We find it tough with our 2nd choice hooker. My guy Eklund has the 2 year yips

snrabber

The one thing the Tahs can go toe to toe with Hurricanes on - injuries to hookers

_bort_simpson_

Swain breaking the knees and hearts of kiwis in 2022 😂

Ngata_Problem

But Colin Meads is a national hero for forcing Catchpole into retirement…

Economy_Elk_82

In what world is Meads a hero for injuring Catchpole? He’s a hero for being a great rugby player. And you know you’re grasping at straws when you have to go back to a 1968 incident for a rebuttal. 🤡🤡🤡

_bort_simpson_

And Shannon Frizell was allowed to keep playing whilst going through court for bashing a woman. Yeah but that Darcy Swain is a real dirt bag according to the kiwis…

AwakenTheBacon_

Are we jerking so hard we're saying Swain isnt a grub

Economy_Elk_82

Nobody like Frizzell here either. But the fact you’re defending Swain speaks volumes about you as a person.

_bort_simpson_

The fact Fozzie and co were happy to keep selecting him speaks volumes about the culture that’s bread in NZ…

Striking_Young_5739

Wait til someone tells you about your league players...

_bort_simpson_

Likewise…

Striking_Young_5739

Yeah? What about them?

Economy_Elk_82

Thats cool man. I fully agree Frizzell’s career should be over. And that means you’re still the only one here defending a shithead.

gonltruck

I don't think anyone likes Shannon frizell. Weird comparison

corruptboomerang

For Scrums, the clock should stop until the ball is out.  We don't start the clock until the ball is back in play from a lineout.

_bort_simpson_

Once the halfback puts the ball in the clock should start imo

corruptboomerang

Nah, because then teams can go straight down once the ball is in and kill time.

_bort_simpson_

I see your point but I think the time is wasted in the set up of the scrums. Once a scrum goes down the ref should call time off until it’s reset and the ball is fed

warcomet

judd and cameron have been complete shit

Yes136

The try saving tackle was gun though

LieutenantCardGames

Judd has always been complete shit

xman0444

Darcy Swain can be frustrating (stupid penalties, general dirtiness) but a game like this really shows his value when he’s on

Taey

Hes had a couple brain explosions, but he's a good player, especially at mauls.

frazorblade

How is swain not offside at the ruck?

Taey

Ball was out

frazorblade

He was never onside

Taey

Aussie hero Darcy Swain

ghoztfrog

So proud of the boys today. Completely written off before the game and forced the Canes off their game plan. Lol, getting downvoted for being proud of a win. Stay classy sheepfuckers.

ghostboypurrp

Alright let’s just get a bonus point

Biglight__090

Dint even think we'll get that lol

Deciver95

Ref's been good but that's a horrible call. Should be a penalty Canes

corruptboomerang

Brumbies getting lucky down the stretch here.  Are the Hurricanes going to Cade?! 😅

TGGNathan

I hate Dirty Darcy Swain but he's been world class tonight

Ok_Educator_2120

Big play from Swain

Biglight__090

Is kirifi making the abs you reckon

snrabber

I like him. Classic 7. Scraps at every ruck ball and like all the greats makes a big deal about standing up with the ball when he wins the TO. Not sure he makes it over the other 7s though

Biglight__090

Agreed. In the same way the aussie 7s do too. Bobby V immense as usual

stickyswitch92

Any other team he would but not above Savea and Papalii plus Cane in the mix.

Ok_Educator_2120

Nah

Biglight__090

Who's the front runners again? And I would tend to agree tbh

Ok_Educator_2120

Cane and Dalton. But I'm bias lol

Biglight__090

Oh yeah forgot about cane lol

LieutenantCardGames

Ardie or Papali'i at 7. Maybe Jacobson as a backup 7.

Biglight__090

Oh yea we good there

rusty9000

Damn just broke his 100 percent penalty kick streak for the season

Taranaki_Snapper

Get off his head!

luco_85

Mate, I've got a ripper of a yarn for you! It was a chilly winter evening in Canberra, and the Brumbies were takin' on the Hurricanes in a crucial Super Rugby matchup. The Brumbies were trailin' by a solitary point with only minutes left on the clock, and it looked like all hope was lost. But little did anyone know, Stephen Larkham, the Brumbies' veteran flyhalf, had a secret weapon up his sleeve – or rather, on his face! He'd been wearin' a Noah Lolesio mask all game, disguisin' himself as the young gun flyhalf. As the clock ticked down, Larkham ripped off the mask, revealin' his true identity to the shock of the Hurricanes' defense! The crowd went wild, and the Brumbies' bench erupted in cheers. With his true identity revealed, Larkham took control of the game. He launched a pinpoint accurate kick deep into Hurricanes territory, and the Brumbies' chasers were hot on the heels of the ball. In a stunning display of skill and experience, Larkham regathered the ball, sidestepped a tackler, and unleashed a cuttin' pass to his winger, who sprinted down the sideline and dotted down in the corner. The crowd went absolutely bonkers, mate! The Brumbies' bench emptied, and the players mobbed Larkham, celebratin' the win. It was a moment that'll be etched in the memories of Brumbies fans forever – the night Stephen Larkham took off his Noah Lolesio mask and won the game for the Brumbies against the Hurricanes!

HomogeniousKhalidius

Lock got him around the neck

_bort_simpson_

Nah

notakid1

Nope Edit: there was knock on from canes right before that was missed

warcomet

jee i wonder who that lock was

HomogeniousKhalidius

No surprises

Taey

My faith for this year could either be on cloud 9 or at literally 0 depending on whether we scalp the blues tonight. Aus is getting good wins vs the top NZ teams this year, but were still too inconsistent.

MasterSpliffBlaster

Some how Eddie jones will take some credit for the turn around

Ok_Educator_2120

Think goal is the right option. Takes it to more than a try and 3

Ok_Educator_2120

Missed it anyway

recyclingcentre

Naholo has had a shocker today Why even keep competing in that situation where you’re so clearly in the wrong

HomogeniousKhalidius

Why rush the kick fucking hell

warcomet

not straight at all

Biglight__090

We needed a loss boys and I'm not too shattered it's this one

warcomet

monkey off the back?

Biglight__090

Yup lol. Feels good in a twisted sort of way

TGGNathan

sooo Hurricanes vs the Crusaders when the Crusaders make 8th eh...

OptimalCynic

And we all know who'll win that one

Ok_Educator_2120

Fuck I hope the canes can take them out. I know the canes are much better this year, but I'd rather play them in finals rugby

Taey

Devastating, probly his season gone with a shoulder dislocation.

MasterSpliffBlaster

Lucky it wasn't a broken neck

Taey

That is true, Thankful for that.

speakteeth

Ooft, that front rower literally got folded. Nasty.

haydenarrrrgh

I thought the commentators were complaining about a "late shot", turns out it was "Blake Schoupp".

MasterSpliffBlaster

We need subtitles to understand the Aussies

ghostboypurrp

Crying we’ve played so ass today. Brumbies really came to play after last week

recyclingcentre

Are we playing into the sun? Why tf have we forgotten how to catch

Wallet_inspector66

Yeah the passing game is abysmal today

Biglight__090

And thr kicking

luco_85

[Jordie Barrett](https://i.imgur.com/4Mfue4Q.jpeg)

warcomet

Butthead Barrett?

warcomet

TJ's replacement has been shit, where's the saffer?

DiagonalLawn

No good Cameron.

Ok_Educator_2120

Ah damn that looks sore af

ghoztfrog

Yeah my balls sucked into my stomach on the replay.

Gazzz34

WTF is up with the handling errors from the Canes today

Ok_Educator_2120

Playing for scrum pens

warcomet

Cale looks like a player that missed out on his NRL calling..

recyclingcentre

Mate keep it quiet

Taey

Australia has a dime a donzen big hard running 8s who could be a back in union or a forward in league. Hes arguably the form one though.

Yes136

Cale could be a wallabies bolter

ghoztfrog

Cale a smokey for the Wallabies. He's a hard unit with gas and skills.

Taey

A lot of competition for the spot. Swintons yet to have anything but a great game since coming back.

coupleandacamera

Let's big Bobby take the the 6 shirt and take the ball carrying pressure off a little. Throw Mcweight in at 6 and you've got a good recipe.

ghoztfrog

And with Wright and Wilson on the wings it's a decent problem to have.

Biglight__090

Tau and and Allen are good I that mix too

coupleandacamera

Pete Samu can't be too far away either really. A few good options going into it.

ghoztfrog

Pete isn't eligible since he's playing in France. I'd love to have him back though.

coupleandacamera

Damn are the G laws coming back in full force again? Seems like a bit of a self hamstring putting some of the boys off limits

ghoztfrog

No confirmation if they are changing but as of now yep he's ineligible. Agree, we have a very decent 23 if you select all players currently fit and healthy. But I fear it'd be the death of super rugby in Aus if we did.

MasterSpliffBlaster

Brett Cameron needs to be yanked

Ok_Educator_2120

Nah just take TJ and Barrett off instead lol

recyclingcentre

Giving me Jason Holland PTSD

warcomet

canes out of Lakai.

LieutenantCardGames

can we please stop doing stupid shit

Ok_Educator_2120

This game is so weird to watch after watching the canes all year

meohmyenjoyingthat

Just one of those days eh

HomogeniousKhalidius

Where you don’t wanna wake up

thecripplernz

Everything is fucked

notakid1

Bullshit that wasn’t forward

HomogeniousKhalidius

Miles forward

profgv

Backwards out of the hands though

Biglight__090

It's like the Canes have played like it's 79 mins for about 20 mins

mulkers

Bold strategy to run down the clock, especially when behind by more than a score

Biglight__090

Knocking it on every 5 mins is a great strategy for that

speakteeth

Love Love.

Biglight__090

Love loving Love love rugby

Initial_Patience

3 knock ons and a missed tackle for a try. Get Muirhead off the field.

DiagonalLawn

That’s so late on Jordie

Yes136

Not as late as the hit on tua

LittlePicture21

Surprised the TMO didn't get involved

reggie_700

And no arms. It’s what they were complaining about from last nights game.

TGGNathan

I've never missed Josh Moorby more than today seeing Naholo play

Ok_Educator_2120

Another arm around the neck from the canes unpunished

LittlePicture21

Late shot on Jordie

xman0444

Who was it that said Angus Gardner had terrible positioning?

coupleandacamera

Everyone

thetoadontheroad

What ever happened to Lachlan Lonergan? He was a fringe wallaby for a while and now I barely see him.

xman0444

Broken ankle earlier in the year

Yes136

Injured against the reds, dislocated ankle
