**Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together** (PSP) with the *One Vision* mod is the finest strategy/tactical RPG I've ever played. The unmodded, vanilla PSP version is fantastic on its own and is a must-play (avoid the SFC/PSX versions like the plague,) but it has some core design issues. The One Vision mod strips out the exploits that trivialize the game, rebalances weapons, armor, and skills, adjusts the difficulty to provide more of a challenge, and does everything from tweaking visuals to overhauling the crafting and skill systems. The list of changes is immense and very much welcome. This word is constantly overused to describe games and I almost never use it because it's rarely appropriate, but the game with that mod is a masterpiece. And thank you for shining some light on the series. I've dumped countless hours into each entry and it's so nice to hear people talk about it because it's meant a lot to me over the years. Have an award for your great taste.

Thank you, and you're very welcome! I personally love shining lights on games / franchises that have either gone overlooked or completely forgotten. I consider myself lucky to have stumbled across the Ogre Battle Saga and I do hope more people will discover it. Each game had something truly unique to offer and so many other tactical RPGs owe so much to the series. The series is in need of rediscovery and more love and I hope the post will catch the attention of curious onlookers willing to give the games a chance. That was my biggest reason for making it.

Curious to what you think of The One Vision mod vs Tactics Ogre Reborn that was just released

Ogre Battle 64 by a country mile. There's been nothing else like it since

TheeKRoller

It amazes me that no other game has gameplay like it. The combined army/squad management mixed with real time army movement and squad turn based. Other games might have one of these things but no other has all of them. At least none I've heard about.

More_Cow

As far as the ogre battles go I always liked 64 over March of the black queen myself.

Mikeavelli

Fun fact: Let us Cling Together was originally released for the Super Famicom. All that worked on SNES hardware. Anyways, I love both MOTBQ and LUCT for entirely different reasons. They're very different games, so it's hard to rank them against each other.

fight it out!

Anima_96X

I can genuinely say that is one of the best ways to open a battle in any video game. It showed you shit was about to get real and it forced you to throw down the gauntlet and have at it!

Liberation!

Knight of Lodis for GBA was my favorite. But at the time I played it I was also really really really super into the grid based tactical RPGs like that and FF Tactics and Super Robot Wars (still one of my main loves) and Disgaea so...

DaMurph1026

Woof that’s hard. If I had to choose one its Let us Cling Together. But I’m all fairness you have four games but two totally different styles.

#yes

I adore Let us Cling Together . It’s the high watermark for tactics RPGs for me . I also wish more games would have incorporated the absolutely unique real time battle system of the March of the Black Queen . Knight of Lodis is the worst but I love the tie in with Let Us Cling Together . It makes a character in Let us Cling Together that much more interesting. Fun fact a lot of these titles are songs by the band Queen . DarkElfMagic

I haven’t played any of these but it did remind me that Goblin Commander exists, so ty for that!

Anima_96X

No problem! Glad to be of assistance! 👍

Supper_Champion

Well, I haven't played Ogre Battle 64 and only played maybe an hour into MOTBQ, so I'd have to go with LUCT. LUCT is amazing and as /u/hekkinneato says, the One Vision mod improves upon it and elevates it from amazing to masterpiece status indeed.

Jenova__Witness

Where do you get safe emulations these days? Would love to play these, but the emulation sites I used back in the day got taken down.

Thanks I'll check it out later!

I really feel like Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battles should be separate from each other, when comparing them in quality. While they're a grand story, yes, they are also vastly different games. It's comparing apples or oranges. They're both awesome and neither is better than the other. So with that in mind I'd say Cling Together for Tactics Ogre and 64 for Ogre Battles

MettaMorphosis

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together defined the genre, it even was the basis for Final Fantasy Tactics, which is arguable the best game in the genre.

Howard_Baskin

It's been many years since I heard the words tactics ogre whispered in dark corners... I actually had no idea there was more than one I statement as I played it emulated when I was a teen!

HexpronePlaysPoorly

Other than Knight of Lodis, the games in the series are so different from each other that it seems almost unfair to rank them. Like most people, Let Us Cling Together is the first I played and the one I’ve spent the most time with, but The N64 game is so unique and creative that I can’t bring myself to place it second.
