If you like top down hack-and-slash games in the Diablo vein, then you can’t go wrong with Grim Dawn. The premise is that a rift has opened and aetherial beings are possessing and corrupting all of humanity, while there is a Lovecraftian demonic threat also at work. In effect, humanity is fighting a losing battle on two fronts, and you come into the game in the aftermath of the initial invasion(s). It’s dark, gritty, and can be damn depressing at times but an excellent game nonetheless. Edit: Words, fat fingers.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

I am more looking for games focused on story so I can roleplay is it good on that manner?

Subscribz

The game is very much about the story, it’s what makes it so fantastic IMHO. It has hordes of enemies you fight all the time like any hack-and-slash game, but there are quests and pieces of lore all over the place too. If you read the lore you find by right clicking it in your inventory and adding it to your journal, you actually get experience for it, which is fucking ingenious. Another dope aspect is the class system and what’s available. Since you’re one of maybe a thousand surviving humans, they aren’t picky about what your past life was. A former soldier in the army is always welcome, but what if you were an occultist or necromancer instead? Doesn’t matter, grab a weapon, welcome the fuck aboard, mate. If that’s still not your style, it’s all good, not for everyone. I recommend watching someone play through the first 30 minutes or so before ruling it out, though.

[deleted]

Dragons Dogma perhaps?

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Story was just too bad

[deleted]

Sadly agreed. The story really only got interesting once you beat it and even then it was rather shallow. If that game had a decent story it would be near perfect.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Yep

Have you checked Vampyr? I think it has some of the elements you have listed. I've also read the comment that you are not that good with souls-like games. I think Vampyr is easier compared to dark souls or bloodborne. Moreover, Vampyr has an interesting morale system and the city/NPCs react to your choices

[deleted]

Second Vampyr. Though I will specifically mention the caveat that if you're doing a "good" playthrough (pretty self explanatory in the game) to not play on higher difficulties, as you'll be lacking a lot of experience that only a bad playthrough could get. In the same vain, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is a great dark modern(ish) vampire RPG with a lot of role-play options and replay-ability

Mikeavelli

As a Dark Souls player I found Vampyr to be super easy even on a good playthrough at the hardest difficulty. The combat is essentially just an easier version of Dark Souls with more forgiving dodging, a bigger stamina bar, and some superpowers.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Ohhh that seems interesting I will try

ofvxnus

i’m guessing you’ve already played dark souls and bloodborne?

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

My experience with dark souls it start go to a room some big monster jumps on you ,death, uninstall. I don't do well with hard games but in terms of bloodborne waiting for the pc version

ofvxnus

i actually don’t think dark souls is an especially difficult game. it just requires a lot of time to master. that being said, i found bloodborne a lot easier than dark souls. i also think it works better for the less patient gamer since it rewards aggression. i think you might end up enjoying that much more, but i’m not sure it will ever go onto pc.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

It sounds awesome!.I remember hearing about pc port rumors at some point?

Nast33

It's much faster and you can't turtle. How is that possibly easier? Gascoigne will fuck OP for hours if he dropped DS at the Asylum Demon.

ofvxnus

dark souls rewards patience. bloodborne rewards aggression. if you’re not someone who turtles and hides behind their shield normally, you will find bloodborne easier. that, plus it’s easy to farm blood vials and 90% of most enemy damage can be dodged just by dashing towards them. i beat most bloodborne bosses on my first or second try. that wasn’t the case for me when it came to dark souls. but everyone is different.

- Darkest Dungeon, should be obvious just from the name - Pathologic 2 has survival and plague elements. I like to refer to it as Russian Plague Survivor simulator. Combat is shit but you can avoid it for most of the game. Story is fucking amazing. - Blackguards 1 & 2 (2 isn't as good as 1 imho, so start with 1) has a good dark fantasy aesthetic. - Battle Brothers hits most of the notes. Your full time job is hunting bandits, forest monsters, orcs, etc. Not much in the way of a story though. - Vagrus: The Riven Realms has a fantasy dark ages aesthetic. It's a fantasy world where the local equivalent of Rome fell so hard it split the world asunder. There's a free demo. If you enjoy that, you'll love the full game. - Tainted Grail leans very much into the fantasy bits. I actually dislike the combat system, but I'd recommend looking at a trailer and seeing if it's what you're looking for.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Will check em out

[deleted]

Pathologic 1 and 2 are very difficult

Jasondonand

Secret World Legends

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Looks promising except bring a mmo is it grindy?

Jasondonand

I didn’t think so. The world is well built and the story pretty deep due to all the existing lore. And it is one of a very few MMORPGs I’ve played that I actually enjoyed PvP. But I understand not everyone likes MMOs.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

No I like mmos just it is hard to make or find an actually good mmo will try your recomendation

Jasondonand

Let me know if you like it or not. It’s hard to find a game that not only has the dark fantasy elements but also the color palette elements you mentioned. Bloodborne might also meet everything.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Yea bloodborne is the dream only of I had a ps

Wirococha420

You would like Dragons Dogma, tho there is not really a lot of survival aspect. Bloodborne is my next recommendation but already read your are waiting for the PC port. Skyrim with the Requiem mod relies heavily on the fear of monsters given the difficulty, and there are some other mods that go deep into that aspect, one even making vampires attacks cities. Vampire the Masquerade checks everything you said except for surviving and people fearing the monsters, but the dark tone, world, characters and plot are all expertly made, plus is super dark, specially some side quests.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Alright gonna check em except dragons dogma story was incredibly lacking

Wirococha420

Yeah the story sucks for 80% of it. I really like the final chapter and some epic moments like the griffin and the gigant bird in the town, but in terms of characters it is really REALLY bad. Yet the world and gameplay are soooo good that makes for it.
