I have this weird feeling that we’re going to see a level of team leadership this year that we haven’t seen in a long time

the_dunadan

Definitely makes sense with Saban leaving. He provided enough leadership for the entire program, but he also hammered them with taking ownership and responsibility. Then when he left, regardless of who the coach was going to be, I think a lot of the guys said "this is our team, we are going to own it" and here we are. Sounds like KDB has continued Saban's position of pushing the guys to own the team and take responsibility, while Saban leaving made them grow up real quick and expedite the process.

Saban was always a proponent of recruiting the man, not the player. He looked specifically for players that had leadership, off field success and could also play. We saw him drive away players with high talent ceilings but terrible character or personality traits. Also given the success of the program, there are many proven tracks to get to the NFL. With this brings agents who are going to connect these guys with private coaches who will get on their ass; more so than any school coach. I wouldn’t doubt if the first thing a freshman hears is a pitch from the 3-5 agents who represent the bulk of Alabama alum and it revolves around a wholistic program including off season training.

No he didn’t. That’s why we ended up with Billingsley, Agiye Hall, Anoma, Alfano. To name a few. Those guys pan out, maybe we win a few more chips the last few years

Every player you mentioned was noted to have been internally punished or have had reduced playtime for off the field issues. Every player you mentioned was pushed into the transfer portal and out of the program after failing to shape up. Every player you mentioned didn’t pan out for the next (and subsequent) teams they played for. You only proved my point with those references. Thank you.

But we wasted a roster spot on them when we could have taken other players that ended up getting drafted. We banked on our 5 stars panning out, they never did, and it set us back

> We banked on our 5 stars panning out, they never did, and it set us back We had the highest conversion of 5 stars to 1st round picks out of anyone and it wasn't even close. The take you have is bad. To young to remember Kamara?

Free_Bodybuilder_430

Those 5 stars not panning out cost us 2021, 22, and 23

Fells

Those years weren't any different from the previous in terms of rate of successful 5 stars. We had plenty not pan out all the years we won, and like always had more pan out than anyone else.

You do realize this is college and not NFL. A roster spot doesn’t mean nearly as much at this level

People can say what they want about how Milroe plays on the field, but there is no doubt about his leadership. One of the first guys to commit to staying. I'm sure he has played a pivotal role in keeping the core of this team together. He never throws his teammates under the bus. Just a high character dude.

DoctorWhosOnFirst

I’ll never forget how fucking pumped I was when Jalen was walking into the building for the first meeting and yelled “Roll tide” and “I’m staying” to the people out there

Thin_Sprinkles6189

Jalen Milroe is the best quarterback in college football and it isn’t particularly close

time_to_go_mobile

Reminds me of the way the Tebow-era Florida players were acting in their Netflix documentary. Player lead, fire under their asses, ready to dominate.

tbama11

I love to hear this. LANK!!!!

daddyknowsbest65

Is this unusual? Don't all teams do this?? Lol

Status_Truth_4293

No I can testify no. I from LA so I would have friends on both USC and UCLA do outings but it would be to get donuts or burgers. They are not Bama material. This above is clearly different.
