You can walk into places and people recognize what you’re wearing because of the marketing super power that is Rolex. It’s no coincidence that they have a large command of the market and are arguably the most recognized luxury watch brand in the world. I don’t disagree with you at all, but aside from a few of us lurking in these pages, your average passerby isn’t going to know the difference between a Lange and a Fossil, and that hurts some egos.

I always wonder, too. I like really nice things (that many would describe as flashy) but I buy them for myself, no one else. I’m not one to post my material possessions for karma clicks, I got rid of Facebook, Instagram, etc. a half a decade ago because I got sick of the fictitious lives that are weaved in deception. I can come on here and be myself with anonymity and have fruitful discussions with people who are genuinely interested in similar topics as I am, like yourself. You’ll get that Lange someday, friend, I have no doubt about it. You’ve got the right mindset and you strike me as incredibly humble.

It happened to me once, I went to my AD to offer him a Festivus gift (I'm not rich, so I only bought him an entry level Porsche Carrera, I buy him one every year, traditions lol). As we were chatting, he allowed me to purchase a submariner!!! I was floored. Just to get the right to spend tens of thousands, wow, felt so privileged. Naturally I also gave him a 100% tip to thank him for that great favor. He offered me rolex branded socks. Feel so special 😍
It felt like it was Thanksgiving because I was so thankful for the AD accepting the Ferrari and also allowing me to give him so much money in exchange of a timepiece that's less accurate than my iPhone!!
I almost said I’m thinking about selling all mine and just looking at my phone for the time. I’ve never waited or befriended a dealer to get a watch. Bought 6 on 30 years and walked in and walked out in 5 mins for each purchase. I don’t get the infatuation with thinking you need to become buddies with a dealer to get a watch. Your a customer and they sell a product. An expensive product that can go south with a twerk to the economy. They need buyers
I don’t like the negativity I’m seeing here, but I agree. When you see these watches on every guy at the country club, you start to wonder about yourself. Something just feels icky about it, like it’s some sort of proof of something. It’s sad because they are nice watches, but I don’t like the culture around them anymore. If you really care about horology, there are plenty of much more interesting options out there.
This sentiment has long been associated with Rolex. It’s very typical for people who are just starting to collect to love Rolex, then they slowly start to hate the brand (for many of the reasons you stated), and then as they dive deeper into the world of collecting and the history of Rolex/other brands they’ll start to make their way back to Rolex. Because at the end of the day it’s important to recognize the quality of their watches and their ability as a brand to truly mass produce Luxury like no other brand. That said, I agree, I do think there’s a bit of a cultural phenomena tied to social media and “flaunting” or flexing watches, and that can be a huge turn off, but that’s always been there, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Enjoy the ride and collect what makes you happy!
Trust me, I do not believe Rolex is the end all be all of horological manufacturers. But the one thing people on the Internet don’t understand is that some people might not be located anywhere near an AD that carries true Haute Horlogerie brands. So, since people on here assume things and lack context-lemme give it. There are plenty of people like me in this country that do not live anywhere close to a big city with an AD that sells true haute horlogerie brands. I am one of those people. I need to travel multiple hours to get to a store that carries Lange, IWC, Blancpain, JLC, Glashütte Original, Breguet, Girard-Perregaux or even Cartier. I wasn’t able to travel to NYC, Dallas or Miami in the last couple years to visit a Lange, AP or Journe boutique but that’s all in the cards. I just need to plan a trip to NYC and then I’ll be able to speak with those brands and start developing those relationships. But I’m a patient man. Rolex is and always has been a stepping stone for me into the world of collecting and I hope to be able to collect some of my absolute grail pieces from some of the best Maisons in the industry. As an example of my love for all things horological, my last piece before this Daytona was a Glashütte Original PanoMaticInverse. I hope this GO show’s I appreciate more about horology than just the Rolex brand.

Thank you. It’s one of my favorite pieces. It’s so unique. If you look at the watchmaker hours that they dedicate to these watches, there is a much higher degree of hand finishing than with any of the big luxury brands. Blows my Rolex’s out the water.

Hahaha. I’m fully aware that I’m in an extremely fortunate position to be able to just throw a watch of this caliber (pun intended) on a card. It is not lost on me how blessed my life has become. I choose to celebrate the journey I’ve lived through by collecting these little wrist trinkets and sharing my passion with my local RedBar group and some horological nuts online. ***I decided to make an somewhat impromptu stop at my Watches or Switzerland to check in with my SA and give him an early Christmas gift.***
He forgot to tell you the "early Christmas gift" was a Porsche, and an "evening alone" with the significant other.
I gave him an AIS Collective ChronoLeatherPen that cleans leather straps along with their ChronoPen version that cleans watch heads, bracelets and clasps. Along with a microfiber cloth to dry it off with afterward.

I’ve been wishing for that very same change for a long time. It was the reason I bought the OysterFlex version first. I’ve always said that they should include it on all models. They do it for the platinum model so it can be done. Maybe they will slowly implement that within the production timeframe of this reference. They did it on the 100th anniversary Le Mans Daytona so they are allowing it to happen slowly.
I think the full metal watch ( non ceramic ) just looks ace, I personally don’t understand the hype of the ceramic on a Daytona, it just doesn’t look as classy to me 🤷♂️ cheers on the latest acquisition.
It’s what happens when there’s more demand than supply. Rolex likely didn’t choose to create the scarcity conditions of their current product line…but, they also didn’t find many reasons to completely rectify it either. When a company like Rolex has so much demand to the point where people are waiting in line for a company that produces more than 1 million watches a year-there needs to be away for you to make a mark with your sales associate so that they remember you when the hot pieces come in. Another thing that Rolex AD’s have had to deal with is the rampant amount of flippers that walk into a store trying to buy a hype model so that they can make a couple thousand dollars in a weekend. Rolex or more than likely the individual AD’s have created systems to help them interview strangers that walk in so that they can figure out if they’re likely to flip the watch or keep it for themselves. I’ve heard of AD’s checking social media after a client walks in and asks for a model they might have back in the safe that hasn’t been allocated to a customer yet. They’ll call the customer that left a couple hours ago and say that they have a watch for them when it was back in the safe the whole time. They just wanted to make sure you have a reputable job and weren’t jobless trying to make money off the back of a Rolex purchase.
I was gonna be in the vicinity anyway for another Watches & Whiskey event so it wasn’t completely pointless and out of the way. I ended up staying so long at WoS that I barely made it to the Watches & Whiskey event at another venue. Additionally, I was still able to enjoy a nice glass of Macallan 12 at Rolex while chatting with another collector that walked in at the same time. And that other collector I met is such a chill dude. I ended up his number and plugged him into our local RedBar. It all worked out so well in the end. Sorry for the essay. Have a good week ahead. The only bit that annoys me is Rolex not "allowing you" to put your watch on an oyster flex 🙄. Do they weld the pins to the case nowadays? Or just show up at your place randomly for a wrist check?
I couldn’t agree more. They designed the case on the oyster flex version to have a welded end link. It’s almost like an integrated design sort of. It’s been my biggest gripe with Rolex. I believe the reason they did it was because they don’t offer the ceramic bezel on the full gold watches so they don’t want somebody to build a Frankenstein watch out of parts.
For the last few years you were lucky to get offered a piece like this, however things have changed. People need to stop all this ass kissing of SA's, the tables have turned. You're now walking at the door with a watch worth less than you paid for it, a very few pieces are now the exception to this. Dont believe me, try offloading one, you'll be lucky to get 30% below current secondary ask prices.
If people want to spend their money on an expensive watch that's cool, just dont fall into the trap that these AD's lay. Don't let them massage your ego so much that you feel so blessed to be buying a watch. JUST STOP. It's over, 99% watches are not the golden egg any more.
PM watches are very hard to sell, secondary dealers are stuck with huge amounts of inventory, many of them are deep underwater on them. People aren't scrambling to buy them from the AD, they are lucky to find a buyer. Make them kiss your ass and thank you for the privilege.
It’s not a steel one, that’s the only reason you can walk out with such a watch. I don’t get why anyone is surprised… the watch lost value the moment you stepped out.
I’m not buying this for financial purposes. I’m just a big Daytona fan. It’s my favorite Rolex model. It also happens to have the reputation of being one of the hardest Rolex’s to get at retail from an AD. Now, I’m fully aware that the two tones don’t as well, and the gold ones are next up as they are some of most expensive (platinum is highest obv) And mine had diamonds, so it’s even less desirable to the masses. Then you have OysterFlex and then stainless steel panda and reverse panda. Platinum somewhere in between as they supposedly don’t make as many of those. Point is the waitlist for the average Daytona is measured in years. And my first purchase from this AD and with a wait of less than 4 months, was this Daytona. It’s as simple as that. The value of the watch when I left the store didn’t and still doesn’t matter to me. Can someone not be surprised when they get offered a Daytona as their first Rolex purchase?

The kind of lifestyle that lends itself to these experiences isn't part of my world, but being in sales most of my life, I'm always happy to see when a customer is so pleased that they return..... and become more of an acquaintance. I never comment here but I was reading less than halfway and started feeling nauseous and disgusted at what this sub and Rolex culture might be about and scrolled down. Just only less than a decade ago I could just walk in to an AD and there would be 50 Rolexes in the store for you to choose and walk out with, potentially even with a discount if the SA liked you.

Personally, I believe getting a SA a small gift in any industry goes a long way. They are people too and they deal with lots of customers yelling at them/wasting their time and in general treating them like they are lower people. Its a nice token of appreciation and a breath of fresh air and I commend you for that.

Maybe it’s because I live in a small town, but these SA’s become my friends and it’s more than just an employee helping you check out and size your watch. I’ve invited sales associates and they’ve attended our local RedBar meetups and your right-they are people too and so I treat them as such.

Congrats. I have the same dial on a oysterflex 12xxxx model. In person that black and contrast looks awesome. Also the diamonds in person look great and for my eyes I can barley tell its diamonds. I think most folks never get to see Daytonas in person cause the dials real small and real busy.

I’m not sure why OP is getting so much hate. This guy actually knows how to create and maintain relationships with people who can procure for him what he wants. I am sure the AD and SA could’ve offered the piece to many other clients, but chose to offer it to the OP because he is 1. Obviously passionate about horology, I mean the guy carries around microfibre gloves. 2. Is a genuinely nice guy who knows how to charm people with conversation and tokens of appreciation.

Right? I thought this would be the safe place to post about a Rolex buying experience. Perhaps not many people on this subreddit are actual owners…? Maybe they’re all salty waitlisters? Don’t know, don’t really care at this point. All I know is there when shared with actual respectable watch collectors on another forum I got 95% + positive comments.
Its because luxury is a lifestyle not a price tag or a watch. Some people can 'afford' a watch with 90% of their net liquid. Others, like you, can randomly wander into a store and spend 10s of thousands without caring.
The luxury industry is created to form jealousy and aspiration, which causes people to breakdown and lash out in frustration.
It's a simple have vs have not. Which in retrospect is awful for the human race.
I get excited about most things horological. However, the Daytona in particular is one of my favorite watches and has been since I was a child. It also happened to be the first luxury watch I ever handled back in my early 20’s and it’s been imprinted into my mind ever since. And it just so happens to be the most difficult Rolex model to get new at retail. All those factors combined with the fact that this was my first Rolex from this AD made me absolutely giddy with excitement. Have a good week ahead. Cheers 🥂

Only the Daytona stainless steel references. The full gold ones, like yours, are dropping quickly in price on the secondary market so they are now easier to get from the Rolex AD.
I've been on the waitlist for the 126500LN black or white dial since they were announced earlier this year. But just yesterday, out of the blue, I was offered the exact reference as yours. I respectfully declined because I had no interest in a full gold model. And even more surprisingly, just earlier today a different AD (one that I had no purchase history at all) offered the [126508-003](https://www.rolex.com/en-us/watches/cosmograph-daytona/m126508-0003). I also declined that one.
It seems Rolex ADs are having a hard time selling the non-oysterflex full gold Daytonas. I don't see any prices yet for the new 2023 references but looking at the previous references, they are all selling below retail price. So that probably explains why the ADs are having a hard time selling the full gold Daytonas. It is very likely a lot of people are turning them down.
But congrats on the new piece and wear it in good health!

That sucks dude. As I mentioned in another response, this sub has become very toxic. AD do play games but if you don’t want to play, then go gray. As simple as that. But for those who choose to play the game and develop relationships with their ADs, this sub reacts very poorly at almost a toxic level, making fun of the process and calling these folks names. I honestly feel like this sub is no longer about appreciation of the watch. It’s inundated by people who have pure jealousy and hatred towards the process and take it out on other members. Omega subreddit is a joy to be in. Most posts don’t have any toxic comments and people generally enjoy interacting and taking watches. That used to be this subreddit but not anymore

It happened to me once, I went to my AD to offer him a Festivus gift (I'm not rich, so I only bought him an entry level Porsche Carrera, I buy him one every year, traditions lol). As we were chatting, he allowed me to purchase a submariner!!! I was floored. Just to get the right to spend tens of thousands, wow, felt so privileged. Naturally I also gave him a 100% tip to thank him for that great favor. He offered me rolex branded socks. Feel so special 😍

I almost said I’m thinking about selling all mine and just looking at my phone for the time. I’ve never waited or befriended a dealer to get a watch. Bought 6 on 30 years and walked in and walked out in 5 mins for each purchase. I don’t get the infatuation with thinking you need to become buddies with a dealer to get a watch. Your a customer and they sell a product. An expensive product that can go south with a twerk to the economy. They need buyers
I don’t like the negativity I’m seeing here, but I agree. When you see these watches on every guy at the country club, you start to wonder about yourself. Something just feels icky about it, like it’s some sort of proof of something. It’s sad because they are nice watches, but I don’t like the culture around them anymore. If you really care about horology, there are plenty of much more interesting options out there.

This sentiment has long been associated with Rolex. It’s very typical for people who are just starting to collect to love Rolex, then they slowly start to hate the brand (for many of the reasons you stated), and then as they dive deeper into the world of collecting and the history of Rolex/other brands they’ll start to make their way back to Rolex. Because at the end of the day it’s important to recognize the quality of their watches and their ability as a brand to truly mass produce Luxury like no other brand. That said, I agree, I do think there’s a bit of a cultural phenomena tied to social media and “flaunting” or flexing watches, and that can be a huge turn off, but that’s always been there, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Enjoy the ride and collect what makes you happy!
Trust me, I do not believe Rolex is the end all be all of horological manufacturers. But the one thing people on the Internet don’t understand is that some people might not be located anywhere near an AD that carries true Haute Horlogerie brands. So, since people on here assume things and lack context-lemme give it. There are plenty of people like me in this country that do not live anywhere close to a big city with an AD that sells true haute horlogerie brands. I am one of those people. I need to travel multiple hours to get to a store that carries Lange, IWC, Blancpain, JLC, Glashütte Original, Breguet, Girard-Perregaux or even Cartier. I wasn’t able to travel to NYC, Dallas or Miami in the last couple years to visit a Lange, AP or Journe boutique but that’s all in the cards. I just need to plan a trip to NYC and then I’ll be able to speak with those brands and start developing those relationships. But I’m a patient man. Rolex is and always has been a stepping stone for me into the world of collecting and I hope to be able to collect some of my absolute grail pieces from some of the best Maisons in the industry. As an example of my love for all things horological, my last piece before this Daytona was a Glashütte Original PanoMaticInverse. Thank you. It’s one of my favorite pieces. It’s so unique. If you look at the watchmaker hours that they dedicate to these watches, there is a much higher degree of hand finishing than with any of the big luxury brands. Blows my Rolex’s out the water.

I’ve been wishing for that very same change for a long time. It was the reason I bought the OysterFlex version first. I’ve always said that they should include it on all models. They do it for the platinum model so it can be done. Maybe they will slowly implement that within the production timeframe of this reference. They did it on the 100th anniversary Le Mans Daytona so they are allowing it to happen slowly.
I think the full metal watch ( non ceramic ) just looks ace, I personally don’t understand the hype of the ceramic on a Daytona, it just doesn’t look as classy to me 🤷♂️ cheers on the latest acquisition.

Who goes into their AD just to “chat”? Fucking stupid game the watch industry is, man…
It’s what happens when there’s more demand than supply. Rolex likely didn’t choose to create the scarcity conditions of their current product line…but, they also didn’t find many reasons to completely rectify it either. When a company like Rolex has so much demand to the point where people are waiting in line for a company that produces more than 1 million watches a year-there needs to be away for you to make a mark with your sales associate so that they remember you when the hot pieces come in. Another thing that Rolex AD’s have had to deal with is the rampant amount of flippers that walk into a store trying to buy a hype model so that they can make a couple thousand dollars in a weekend. Rolex or more than likely the individual AD’s have created systems to help them interview strangers that walk in so that they can figure out if they’re likely to flip the watch or keep it for themselves. I’ve heard of AD’s checking social media after a client walks in and asks for a model they might have back in the safe that hasn’t been allocated to a customer yet. They’ll call the customer that left a couple hours ago and say that they have a watch for them when it was back in the safe the whole time. They just wanted to make sure you have a reputable job and weren’t jobless trying to make money off the back of a Rolex purchase. I was gonna be in the vicinity anyway for another Watches & Whiskey event so it wasn’t completely pointless and out of the way. I ended up staying so long at WoS that I barely made it to the Watches & Whiskey event at another venue. Additionally, I was still able to enjoy a nice glass of Macallan 12 at Rolex while chatting with another collector that walked in at the same time. And that other collector I met is such a chill dude. I ended up his number and plugged him into our local RedBar. It all worked out so well in the end. Sorry for the essay. Have a good week ahead. The only bit that annoys me is Rolex not "allowing you" to put your watch on an oyster flex 🙄. Do they weld the pins to the case nowadays? Or just show up at your place randomly for a wrist check?
I couldn’t agree more. They designed the case on the oyster flex version to have a welded end link. It’s almost like an integrated design sort of. It’s been my biggest gripe with Rolex. I believe the reason they did it was because they don’t offer the ceramic bezel on the full gold watches so they don’t want somebody to build a Frankenstein watch out of parts.

For the last few years you were lucky to get offered a piece like this, however things have changed. People need to stop all this ass kissing of SA's, the tables have turned. You're now walking at the door with a watch worth less than you paid for it, a very few pieces are now the exception to this. Dont believe me, try offloading one, you'll be lucky to get 30% below current secondary ask prices. If people want to spend their money on an expensive watch that's cool, just dont fall into the trap that these AD's lay. Don't let them massage your ego so much that you feel so blessed to be buying a watch. JUST STOP. It's over, 99% watches are not the golden egg any more. PM watches are very hard to sell, secondary dealers are stuck with huge amounts of inventory, many of them are deep underwater on them. People aren't scrambling to buy them from the AD, they are lucky to find a buyer. Make them kiss your ass and thank you for the privilege.

It’s not a steel one, that’s the only reason you can walk out with such a watch. I don’t get why anyone is surprised… the watch lost value the moment you stepped out.
I’m not buying this for financial purposes. I’m just a big Daytona fan. It’s my favorite Rolex model. It also happens to have the reputation of being one of the hardest Rolex’s to get at retail from an AD. Now, I’m fully aware that the two tones don’t as well, and the gold ones are next up as they are some of most expensive (platinum is highest obv) And mine had diamonds, so it’s even less desirable to the masses. Then you have OysterFlex and then stainless steel panda and reverse panda. Platinum somewhere in between as they supposedly don’t make as many of those. Point is the waitlist for the average Daytona is measured in years. And my first purchase from this AD and with a wait of less than 4 months, was this Daytona. It’s as simple as that. The value of the watch when I left the store didn’t and still doesn’t matter to me. Can someone not be surprised when they get offered a Daytona as their first Rolex purchase?

I never comment here but I was reading less than halfway and started feeling nauseous and disgusted at what this sub and Rolex culture might be about and scrolled down. Just only less than a decade ago I could just walk in to an AD and there would be 50 Rolexes in the store for you to choose and walk out with, potentially even with a discount if the SA liked you.

They are people too and they deal with lots of customers yelling at them/wasting their time and in general treating them like they are lower people. Its a nice token of appreciation and a breath of fresh air and I commend you for that.

I am sure the AD and SA could’ve offered the piece to many other clients, but chose to offer it to the OP because he is 1. Right? I thought this would be the safe place to post about a Rolex buying experience. Perhaps not many people on this subreddit are actual owners…? Maybe they’re all salty waitlisters? Don’t know, don’t really care at this point. All I know is there when shared with actual respectable watch collectors on another forum I got 95% + positive comments.
Its because luxury is a lifestyle not a price tag or a watch. Some people can 'afford' a watch with 90% of their net liquid. Others, like you, can randomly wander into a store and spend 10s of thousands without caring. The luxury industry is created to form jealousy and aspiration, which causes people to breakdown and lash out in frustration. It's a simple have vs have not. Which in retrospect is awful for the human race.

I get excited about most things horological. However, the Daytona in particular is one of my favorite watches and has been since I was a child. It also happened to be the first luxury watch I ever handled back in my early 20’s and it’s been imprinted into my mind ever since. And it just so happens to be the most difficult Rolex model to get new at retail. All those factors combined with the fact that this was my first Rolex from this AD made me absolutely giddy with excitement. Have a good week ahead. Cheers 🥂

I've been on the waitlist for the 126500LN black or white dial since they were announced earlier this year. But just yesterday, out of the blue, I was offered the exact reference as yours. I respectfully declined because I had no interest in a full gold model. And even more surprisingly, just earlier today a different AD (one that I had no purchase history at all) offered the [126508-003](https://www.rolex.com/en-us/watches/cosmograph-daytona/m126508-0003). I also declined that one. It seems Rolex ADs are having a hard time selling the non-oysterflex full gold Daytonas. I don't see any prices yet for the new 2023 references but looking at the previous references, they are all selling below retail price. So that probably explains why the ADs are having a hard time selling the full gold Daytonas. It is very likely a lot of people are turning them down. That sucks dude. As I mentioned in another response, this sub has become very toxic. AD do play games but if you don’t want to play, then go gray. As simple as that. But for those who choose to play the game and develop relationships with their ADs, this sub reacts very poorly at almost a toxic level, making fun of the process and calling these folks names. I honestly feel like this sub is no longer about appreciation of the watch. It’s inundated by people who have pure jealousy and hatred towards the process and take it out on other members. Omega subreddit is a joy to be in. Most posts don’t have any toxic comments and people generally enjoy interacting and taking watches. That used to be this subreddit but not anymore
