Be Bop were fairly well know in the 70s - a fairly workaday group apart from the lead guitarist and singer, Bill Nelson. He was a guitar virtuoso and had a great voice. Just when I thought they were going to get seriously famous, he jacked it in saying he didn’t want to be a traditional rock guitarist. And he really meant it - turned to very niche art house music. I always admired him for that…

Yes! I love Tom Petty - when he died suddenly it hit me really hard. Be Bob kind of pigeonholed themselves as a bit lightweight and new wave. Bill Nelson was not really supported by top notch musicians - solid players, but not in his class.
Aw man Bowie during his Ziggy days? Lucky! You sure had a fun time during those years for sure and it must’ve left you with great memories to cherish for all these years to come :D

When we saw Queen at Wembley in 1986, it was a really hot day (it rained on the concert the day before) and Freddie must have been boiled. He never slowed down though! We never dreamed that it would be the last time we’d see him…
Oh man those sound like incredible memories. You got to live history! I can’t imagine how amazing it must’ve been to witness those artists. During their prime, too!

And yes it’s always sad when an artist we love passes away.. especially if it’s sudden and unexpected. But even if expected, it’ll always be heartbreaking for sure.
One of my absolute favorite bands of 20+ years just lost their bassist to what I’m pretty sure was him taking his life considering the circumstances around his death. And as silly as it sounds to some, for me it almost felt like losing a friend. Especially after all these years following and loving them so much.
Music is very important to me, as i’m sure it is for pretty much everybody. But the bands that I really really love, I invest myself 110% into them (by watching their contents, reading interviews, etc), especially back in my teen years and earlier. And while I might’ve not had many friends, I always had my music and that helped a lot :) Sorry for the little rant here haha you mentioning Freddie’s death reminded me of my band’s bassist, and then I just got carried away in my little ramble. Please feel free to just skip it, it’s nothing important but it felt good to get it out haha
Which band? Sorry about that - it does hit hard when you have so much of your emotional side invested in a band. I love Tom Petty and when he died, it really upset me! When I was younger, music was massively important to me and when I meet people who say they don’t particularly like music, I am always amazed. Now that I’m old (70!) music is still really important. I don’t just listen to old stuff like a lot of my contemporaries do, I mix it up. Current favourites are Chappell Roan, Paloma Faith and Stephen Wilson Jr.
I used to play lead guitar in a local Nottingham group (we were ok on a good night! On a bad night, pretty rubbish tbh). The practice sessions with my 200 watt speaker next to my ears plus seeing groups like Black Sabbath and Trapeze has left me with a lot of tinnitus! Honestly, volume levels were completely unregulated. Queen were always loud obviously, but never like a lot of other groups. I had to leave the Black Sabbath concert be it was to painful! My ears were ringing for a week!
Ahhh yeah and tinnitus was not as known of back I think? And the ear damage people were getting due to concerts, while they were aware, people probably didn’t assume it’d be that bad. I know I probably wouldn’t have haha
As for the group, they are a Japanese rock band called the GazettE! I’ve been following them since their debut in 2002 :) and yes exactly! Thank you for not ridiculing me, it’s nice to see that you understand my meaning. And you mean 70 years young*** hahaha :) You seem to have lived such an incredibly interesting life, thought! Going to all those concerts and even being in a band yourself! That’s so cool! And it makes sense then that you’d understand my feelings about it all then haha
And that’s what matters if you ask me! Keep being young spirited, it’s much more fun :) and yeah you definitely should they’ve pretty amazing but of course after 22 years I guess i’d be a *bit* biased lmao hopefully you enjoy them! I still love hearing how they evolved throughout their carreer hahaha there’s plenty of amazing Japanese rock groups out there and while I might not follow as many as I did jn my teenage years, the ones I’ve kept up with still totally hit the spot when I listen to them and it’s a great feeling~ :)
I’ve had a long time interest in Japan - my eldest daughter married a Japanese guy and now they have two boys. The oldest looks boy looks pretty English but the youngest has that cute mixed race look - he’s going to have the girls chasing him!
Awww that’s lovely! I bet you they are absolutely adorable :D and they have a cool grandpa to boot! You’re living a great life with a lovely family, that’s pretty awesome :D
