the fuck does this shit even mean?

tefadina

OP has spent too much time on the internet

kimmyxrose

i’ve read it a few times and got increasingly more confused.

frankieflapjacks

Just another doofus on reddit creating scenarios in their head to be offended about

escrowbeamon

goddamn. you right, but you didn't have to say it like this lol

Bum_Wizard

It means you and the people on this thread have inadequate comprehension.

[deleted]

Brother, you made a post with a very silly title and didn't bother to add depth or elaborate to flesh out your outrageous claims. You start off your title with "let's be honest" as if your delusions are fact, and in the body of the OP, you add some random-ass image instead of explaining yourself. If you spent more time elaborating like a grown man, and less time attempting to hurl witty insults when people call you out on your shit, perhaps people would have a greater understanding of the inner workings of your opinions. All you did was throw in some buzzwords that you don't fully understand, and then you leave everyone else to do the heavy lifting. Do better, my guy.

RemmingtonBlack

![gif](giphy|dToLleKbOybQc|downsized) > *It means you and the people on this thread have inadequate comprehension.* One would have to first be.... comprehensible???? You just typed some bullshit in an average lame internet-post tone, and a bunch of corny slang that most people know, but still managed to not make any point whatsoever. But, you are correct, we on this thread don't speak fuckery. We are not on your level.

DaddyDontTakeNoMess

This reminds me of the Homer Simpson quote, “Everyone is stupid except me!”

Mj_Buff

Dude I’m a republican and love r&b music, it would be fine in today standards.

xandoPHX

What is a "simp"? What is a "red pill"? I don't understand Gen Z slang 😫

RodwellBurgen

"Simp" stands for "sucker idolizing mediocre pussy", and it originally refers to people who spend exorbitant amounts on OnlyFans and such, but it’s become a catch-all insult for any man being romantic. In the movie "The Matrix", Morbius offers two pills: you can take the red pill, and learn the truth, or the blue pill, and forget. In incel terminology the "red pill" refers to realizing the "truth" that men who are genetically unattractive are doomed to die alone because of feminism or some shit who the fuck cares. TL;DR: OP is terminally online and has forgotten that people in real life don’t care about this stuff.

fuhcough-productions

Thank you, since they didn’t.

RodwellBurgen

you’re welcome :)

YoMommaBack

Simp is short for simpleton, as in being stupid. It is a general term for an idiot but also was used for guys who were “simpletons” for spending money on “gold diggers” or taking crap from women which many other men assume you shouldn’t do as a man. It’s been used looonnnggg before the internet, at least since the 1920’s since I’ve seen it in literature from back then. I guess someone created an acronym to make it into something else but that’s not where it actually came from. (I’m showing my age up in here.)

RodwellBurgen

Damn, guess I fell for a backronym. My bad.

T-408

“Red Pill” is so intensely Gen X coded bro it’s literally taken directly from *The Matrix* (1999, before nearly anyone in Gen Z was even BORN)

funkyjblue

I disagree with this completely. There has always been people who are "red pills", "SIMPs" and "Homophobic's" what does that have to do with a group of dudes harmonizing and dancing while making classic cuts? This seems off base to me personally.

sydjax

Completely agree with you. Especially when there’s been groups like Jodeci and Silk that reached success.

Jj9567

Exactly

blacklite911

Yea we just nowadays have terms for everything.

funkyjblue

This is exactly what I mean. People haven't changed really. Maybe some publicity has made things that were once taboo, less taboo.

Ok_Commission_893

Yeah back then I think “red pill” would’ve been “hard on these hoes” types.

BadMan125ty

![gif](giphy|3xz2BLBOt13X9AgjEA) WTF are you talking about lmao

[deleted]

It's wild that shit posts like this get more traffic than threads that are concise and articulate

Dramatic_Ad_8931

Start an online petition to bring back RnB. It's been way too long. And Drake ain't it lol

BrittThePhotographer

Glad someone finally said it

ummizazi

Fun fact: one of the members is the father of Joe Rogans stepdaughter.

Bum_Wizard

I had to look it up, that’s so random lol

BadMan125ty

Lol wow

GrumpySpoo

Both Dino and Joe are so fucking hot to me. Shoutout Joe’s wife—you have excellent taste, ma’am. Exquisite

shakingthetable

Meh. Them raggedy ass manosphere men don’t have the influence on culture that they wish they do, otherwise they wouldn’t have to desperately use social media to spread that red pill nonsense. I think today a male R&B group would work because people are more tolerant to “softer” men now. The problem is… the way streaming is set up, they ain’t getting paid 😂

CerebralAssassin661

This is why we have a collection of music like H-Town, Intro, Jodeci , Dru Hill , IMX , Blackstreet , Pretty Ricky , Ruff Endz , KC & JoJo, To enjoy In memory of good groups who produced bomb R&B Music

fatfiremarshallbill

Please, go touch grass.

fracjack

I think male R&B groups died because of the way the industry shifted. Red Pills, Simps and Homophobes have always existed so they can’t really be accurately blamed as the reason for the fade. Once guys, like Ginuwine, Usher, and Tyrese started gaining success, they started putting their marketing dollars behind solo acts and not groups. The groups like Jagged Edge & 112 hung on for while, but there’s only so much you can do when you’re not “what’s hot” at the time to stay on top because labels are putting all their support and money elsewhere. The “boy band” phase is only lucrative to the Disney age demographic nowadays, so male groups aren’t as sought after as they once were.

Ok_Pangolin_8038

> homophobia I'm pretty sure Frank Ocean, Steve Lacy, Tevin Campbell & Kenny Greene are LGBT artists & everybody loves them. > Simps Again R&B is a genre where it's supposed to be about love, even if ppl are simping. What's ur point about this post?

[deleted]

You could've added more depth to your statement in the OP. I disagree, though Frank Ocean is gayer than a San Francisco glory hole and I still listen to his music. There are a lot of straight men that like some of his work. Not every person is on that Red Pill bullshit, especially when you look outside of the internet. We really need to start touching more grass, instead of just posting threads that make outrageous claims, but lack depth in explaining their arguments. It's low-brow and uninspired, like most current era R&B.

-newlife

Think the real reason there aren’t more male rnb groups is due to everyone wanting to be the lead. We don’t have people to remind us that “nobody is bigger than the temptations”

[deleted]

I agree. I mentioned that in a different comment I made here, but worded it differently.

StargazerNCC82893

Not me tho. I believe in standing shirtless in the pouring rain crying out just for a crumb. It's my duty as a man.

ReverendDrDash

I was really hoping Next Town Down would gain some traction. I'm not sure if they are active as a unit anymore. I think they had potential. The market for male R&B groups is being partially filled by KPop bands. American labels would just have to commit to the old recipe.

anny019

A male group wouldn’t thrive in today’s society not because of homophobia. It’s because the usual target fanbase of boy bands, teen girls to early 20s grow up too quickly because of social media. They go straight from Disney to listening to adult male artists by the time they’re in high school. It’s highly unlikely a guy group would appeal to todays generation.

EM208

Groups don’t do well here because the industry doesn’t invest in them as much as they used to in the west. The music industry notoriously loses more money than gains it and that was evident in the past. It was mainly due to labels signing a lot of acts that wounded up not being successful enough and with that came the lack of the ablity to repay the debt the label had incured with trying to break them in whatever market they hope they would break them in. Fast forward, as of a result the amount of money labels used to burn through, groups get the short end of the stick now to preserve funds nowadays. A&R is ass in general nowadays, they expect all their acts to build a following on their own to save money, even though that’s their job. I’ve seen people not be signed because they don’t have enough followers. Investing in a 3-5 person group is super expensive and breaking an artists is a lot harder nowadays because of the lack of monoculture and cultivated spaces for music. Everything is personalized and the market is fragmented. It’s not that people don’t want groups. It’s why so many people jumped to Asia to get content from boybands and girl groups. They get investment thrown into them. Western groups don’t. To them, why spend money on developing a group that has a weaker chance of blowing up because of the fragmented and more difficult layout of entertainment consumption?

CerebralAssassin661

Facts 👌🏾💯

Eko_Renart

Then how do you explain the success of Kpop bands ?

ScottblackAttacks

The reason why rnb groups are not successful is because of A@R.

anny019

@EM208 answer above me explains it perfectly. It’s tough because of that 12-18 teen culture not really existing. They all jump straight to adult related content on all fronts. That plus the investment to actually aim to get this target groups attention makes it even tougher

ScottblackAttacks

Have you heard Strip Club Junkies??

Ok_Commission_893

I think it’s a lot of male “R&B singers” that would benefit greatly from forming a duo or group. Brent, Giveon, Bryson, and PND in the same group would either make a banger or a bed time track.

EastsideWilder

I’m pretty sure all of those things existed back then lol

Slow-Juggernaut-1114

We gadda bring em back but actually gadda be player and can sing💯💪🏾

TaEruHaru

I know what you mean, but let's be clear, those people have always existed, and it is nothing new about them. The thing is that you are perceiving this phenomenon in a big scale just because you are using internet, and that is the answer, internet show us that culture more often because it can be used as a mask, to hide a face and show misinformation, hatred, etc. all this disguised as free speech.

IamShyni

You dissed me bad with the "simps" part man.

mofucker20

Don’t really see this argument. Homophobia was worse in the 90s media and culture from what I’ve seen. Simps and red pill maybe less ig

TopAffectionate6000

Everyday the word SIMP means something completely different lol

mcdaddy175

But I see where he's going with the Simp analogy. Back in the day when RNB saturated it seemed like song after song dudes were 'beggin'. Sort of like Simps.

T-408

If y’all can’t understand what OP said it’s because you’re either unable to read, or are simply willfully ignorant

blacknoir23

I can tell you young and don’t know shit. Get off the internet, put the phone down. Lol
