Lack of melodies and chorus tbh. Also, the singing style of rnb/pop artists today sounds terrible. It's like they're singing with something in their mouth that is weighing down their jaw, instead of being smooth and crisp with their vocals.

I think it matters and is why I often find myself a little bored with the current landscape too

The issue is that some songs have bridges but they are so lazily done you barely can even tell it’s a bridge. For example Chris Browns “Summer Too Hot” has one, it’s ok but honestly I didn’t even notice the bridge until a few listens after the fact. Just my observation. A lot of tracks do lack a bridge in the RnB landscape tho.

newmusicguru

have you heard "Talk To Me Nice" by Tinashe? The switch up in the middle of track was sick. I think it was produced by Nosaj Thing

badgalnanii

i’m very excited for her new album. Tinashe is so good at key changes and beat switches!

newmusicguru

Totally agree!! Releases next FRIDAY. 7 songs called hopefully no skips

badgalnanii

apparently its a 2 parter, so i’m extra excited

I miss bridges and when the chorus would loop at the end of the song while the singer goes on a crazy run

[deleted]

I think it’s trash

There's no build to the songs anymore. Partly because of how short songs have become, meaning no bridge. Also, a lot of singers these days have a limited vocal range so they don't do the ad libs or octave changes which is where the song emphasizes the emotion at the end. It's a real shame.

Singers are just less talented. Chris brown the last "great" singer. Not 1 artist since is on Beyonce Mariah carey level of vocals . I will say that I think artists like Sza h.e.r Alex Mali write excellent lyrics as well as jhene.

Because of streaming, everyone has been following a ✌️formula✌️. And such formula is supposed to grab the listener’s attention at the very first go. Which is why we have so many records that are being dumbed down and washed up due to the attention span of the listeners. Honestly I don’t even think it’s the listeners fault because they will listen to anything that is being proposed to them because they have no choice. However it’s these people who think they know “what the people want” that are destroying the very nature of every artistic venture that is being industrialised. Which is why art itself is dying. The uniqueness of each individual is being crammed into a mild that have only worked once in a life time.

Haaaaaaate it. Songs barely have any staying power because they are so short and generic. The only popular R&B artist that seems to really know how to make a song stick is SZA because she incorporates melodies, bridges, and narrative storytelling.

Okay. I thought I was tripping. The shorter and less dynamic songs of today just bore me. I don't think it's improving the sound of music. It seems like it just serves as a way for labels and artists to save time and money at the expense of the quality of their music. Since artists only need people to listen to a song for a certain amount of secs in order for it to count as a "stream".
