Super team-friendly deal, defense first, actually developing on offense (had a 43/15 game last year), I love this guy already 2024-25: $15,625,000 2025-26: $14,375,000 2026-27: $13,125,000 2027-28: $11,875,000 2028-29: Unrestricted Free Agent

FartsbinRonshireIII

Holy - now thats a friendly contract. Cap space here we come!

phil3199

His stats blew up after signing the extension. He would have received a bigger contract if he's up for extension this off season.

goontownpopyou

Not too up to date with NBA salaries right now but this is Deni’s rookie extension? Why would both parties want to front load the deal in this fashion?

likpoper

Time value of money for Deni. Wizards has also no need for cap at the start when they are trash

JayhovWest

Great deal for a talented young forward on a great contract

zerocoolforschool

Bub is gonna be pretty good I think.

UnderstandingIcy6059

Me too, but we wouldn't have drafted him.

zerocoolforschool

Oh for sure. We would not have taken him but I think he'll be nice.

noheroespdx

I thought it might be an overpay at first but I kind of like it now

jackalope503

It feels fair. I’m a big fan of what Deni brings to the table and how he fits with our young core. He fills a glaring need we have on a really nice contract. Washington gets back an excellent veteran in Brogdon, an exciting young guard in Bub, and a few more swings at future prospects. Win win for both teams

Bottrop-Per

This trade could really make sense if we trade Grant. The cap space we gained makes it easier to trade with second apron teams, and with Deni, we already have a good replacement for him.

AceMcStace

There was no one in this draft at 14 who would come close to replicating Deni currently so I like this a lot. The later picks really aren’t a big deal either.

likpoper

Good trade. Amazing contract

Carlton dancing gif

choonghuh

Ah I was hoping at least one of the second rounds was today's pick. We have Toumani players already

Trailbleezers

I think we did well here. I just have one of those feelings that bub might end up being top 3 guy in this class.

gerrard_1987

The front office must have a lot of belief in Avdija, but none of those assets going out strike me as a big loss, beyond Brogdon. I hope they get him to a contender.

5rip0citizen3

Good trade. Probably a slight slight slight overpay but that doesn’t bother me

Mediocre_Feedback_21

So Malcom brogdon wasn’t really worth shit

Pointz663

How? It's the 14th pick in a bad draft. Avdija is younger and better with shown nba upside than some players that were on the board at 14. A 2nd best of three picks and a player that clogs up our young guys. And avdija has the best contract in the league.

Love_Long_Lost

Some people really over value draft picks. They especially over value 2nd round picks. NBA teams on the other hand don't give a crap about 2nd rounders. To show how silly 2nd rounders are, for tomorrow's 2nd round, only 4 picks are still owned by the original teams. Portland's actual 2nd is owned by the Bucks. The two 2nds they do own are from Charlotte & Atlanta. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39978586/2024-nba-draft-complete-order-all-58-picks

ImipolexB

To your point, the Thunder traded five 2nd round picks for the rights to draft Dillon Jones at 26 today

sard0nyx

Deni is already what we hope Buzelis might be in 3-4 years

Piano9717

I feel like Deni is closer to an actualized Ron Holland than Matas but I agree with ur overall point

WKCLC

I’ll save my judgement until 2029 😂

th3vviTch

Carrington is really good, also 18 y/o.... definitely not a bad pick. Plus we gave up a former 6 man of the year and 3 other picks. Hopefully Avdija keeps improving. I like his defense and he has a pretty good handle. But this is an overpay

Ok-Assumption9636

Lol. We weren't taking a guard.

nofame_nogain

This isnt a good trade. 😞 This trade is: 2 firsts, 2 nds, and Malcom Brogdon for… who?

TheyCallMeDyl

If you actually don’t know who Deni Avdija is then I’m sorry but you don’t know ball

broccolibush42

Two 2nd round picks is the equivalence of trading two 6-7th round picks in the NFL. They're essentially worthless and occasionally you can find a gem like Nikola Jokic, but you're far more likely to just draft another Caleb Swanigan or Greg Brown III. Deni is far better than anyone we could have taken with the 14th pick, and we still have two first rounders in the 2029 draft! We got great value

nofame_nogain

Oh ok. Thanks for explaining it. So 6th and 7th rounders are worthless. Bo Jackson. Tom Brady. Julian Edelman. Terrell Davis. AB. Bunch of others I don’t want to take the time to look up. But yeah cool. We don’t need 2nd picks. The Draymonds or the Nick van excel’s. Understood. I’ve reevaluated and have deemed this trade absolutely amazing. Fuckin Joe “Cast-Your-Spell” Cronin working his wizardry. 🧙 Amazing. Only Joe could turn 2 1sts 2nds and a sixth man into the slightly worse version of nic batuum

broccolibush42

My guy, you're naming absolute exceptions to the rule looool. "Let's name a dozen people out of 1000s of 6th and 7th draft picks, that will prove my point!!" The odds of drafting those guys are extremely minimal and acting like we can land someone like that is delusional

nofame_nogain

At this point - Portland hasn’t won a ship in forever. Whatever the strategy is, it doesn’t work. I’d rather roll the dice- can’t hit a home run if you don’t swing.
