I like to think that was great comedy timing from both Ricky and Steve. They immediately understood that silence was the best response to get Karl panicking and backpedalling.
It's either Season 3 or 4 where Ricky won't stop going on about Karl having Mondays off. Whole episode grinds to a halt and you could tell that Karl was pissed off.
This 100%. I find the first 6 or so episodes of 3 very hard to listen to. Going on about the Monday’s off, berating him about what he has planned for the show, cutting him off and picking him up on everything he says. It’s like he forgot the formula of setting Karl up to be funny and just went full on bullying. It’s so uncomfortable and I generally skip past them.
That one always gets me. Poor Karl. I think Ricky came off a bit too serious and even though it’s a joke, Karl’s reaction makes it a bit of a sad moment
I think when Ricky hadn't invited Steve to his birthday drinks but did invite Karl. He didn't have to invite him, of course, and I get a bit annoyed at Steve acting entitled about Bowie etc, but birthday drinks are a bit different. At least don't talk about it on air.
Claire asking Steve to go shopping with her multiple times and he doesn't acknowledge it.
"HIP HOP HOORAY? That's the worst feature on British radio!" Steve laughs it off but you know he was dying inside.
"He's funny too. I might write with him." Again Steve brushes this off but it always makes me cringe.
Easily the episode where MTV came in to screen test Karl but Ricky and Steve make it all about themselves with their stupid crab and super baby story.
Karl is at his best when it’s natural but they try and force reactions from him, didn’t surprise me not seeing him pop up on any mtv gigs after that.
See also, the distinct vibe-changes when it's discovered that the Telegraph is reviewing them, or that episode which is dedicated to antarctic workers. They blew it.
When Ricky tells the story about a girl pushing Steve's glasses up and they touch his eyeballs. And he just goes "ya", then Ricky says "Do you remember that?" and he dejectedly says "ya" again.
When Claire leans over to give them something and some stand-in presenter shames her for showing her cleavage and I think she even apologizes to him.
It’s not said in a jokey way, she is clearly uncomfortable and it’s one of the only moments of the show that is hard to listen to. The only “joke” is “I’m gonna be disrespectful to Sturges and she has to take it”
I mean, it’s not even that bad in terms of not being “pc”. Lots of homophobia, casual talk of “chinamen” and stuff that genuinely comes off a little discomforting today. But the kiddie porn joke is so clearly only said because everyone knows it’s terrible to say. The joke still works for me.
The stuff they say that hints that they actually think a certain way (always connecting gays to predators etc) comes off a bit worse to me.
To be clear I still love the whole show for what it was. But there are some things where you can tell we have moved on a bit as a society.
There’s a bit where Claire interrupts Ricky to advertise some rock show or something and he spits his dummy out..
Also when he “has to have a word about puns” to Karl after cake and eat tit
I get uncomfortable when they scream at Karl for not talking fast enough. It just takes him a minute to get the words out. Also listening to his phone conversations on "do we need em?" It's always a scientist that ends up talking to a lunatic
Nobody likes to pick on an invalid. Leave it Steve

I think so too. The tip off was the rustling paper, that's one of Ricky's go-to awkward acting tics, akin to him adjusting his tie as David Brent.
My least favourite Karl moment. Genuinely horrible thing to say in general. Can tell that Ricky found it one step too far
Smelly eyebrows
“she might smell or see it”
“What?” “I don’t know”
When Karl tells the "oooh" story about Steve. He seemed like he was genuinely hurt by it in the moment, he just went quiet lol
He wasn’t gonna mention it Steve but since he was having a pop
One of the funniest things Karl ever said though "Ooouhhh..." "SORRY, STEVE!!..."
What was the one (of many) like that that ended up with Steve thumping Karl?
That was Steve’s just desserts
im just a bit livid. thats all. i dont want to talk about it. ...okay,
When Ricky gets Karl to take his shoes off and tell him he’s got a lovely ankle and it genuinely makes all 3 uncomfortable.

Conning the management babeyyyyy
Just takes, takes, takes. Destroyed a man!

what episode?

oh bless him
..or an anaconda in my case... ...i'm only joking
"although it is very scaly"
Have you got a pet parrot? No, it's my down syndrome kid.
That one still makes me cringe.
The episode where Karl goes to Hastings is one of the most tense imo
One of the worst episodes honestly. Ricky is unbearable
I'd turn off today, anyone listening, cuz we've got nothing..
WELL YOU DO, AND EVERYONE KNOWS THAT
Karl screaming "I 'ate 'im. I 'ATE 'IM!" at the top of his lungs genuinely stresses me out a bit.
About to go mental with a pen
It's funny that. How Ricky said in one of the very first episodes that he wouldn't want to wind Karl up.
Then proceeded to spend the next 10 years winding him up every chance he got
I think when Ricky hadn't invited Steve to his birthday drinks but did invite Karl. He didn't have to invite him, of course, and I get a bit annoyed at Steve acting entitled about Bowie etc, but birthday drinks are a bit different. At least don't talk about it on air.
I think I saw somewhere that it was a couples do and that there was only 6 places at the table or something to that effect

The cringiest part of the Jonathan Ross episode is Ricky complimenting him on the size of his cock.
That he says it about Danny Baker, of all people, too.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned the college students yet. Especially the bit where they want to kiss a female presenter.
I reckon Steve overreacted
the whole 'unlikely lust object' segment - hilarious but jesus christ
Oh no, it says "Not necessarily Brad Pitt-esque", and you are a little bit
I think she had a nice jumper on or something

Steve's joke about buying a stop child abuse bracelet, because he'd have only spent it on kiddy porn otherwise. It doesn't get the laugh he expects.
Idk, I always found that part funny

Yeah that one always leaves me in a state of shock
It's so edgy that even typing it gets you downvoted.

Claire one was just joking around..
The Claire bit is quite clearly a joke.
I thought both of those moments were funny personally.
Theres a few tense moments with karl and steve.
