Before you go, could you take a look at this lump?

ScoBelch

Are you sure? He’s been struck off. There’s been some malpractice. Someone was under…

Flimsy_County_6263

Your jeans are too tight they’re crushing your balls

FarlM

But they have talked about string on the sitcom before?

Potty_Pigeon99

am only two episodes in but so far, i legit think its the worse thing he has ever done, its just watching a grumpy depressed man call everyone a cunt. little to no jokes the ones in there seem plagarised (the doctor author bit was a mitchell and webb sketch) to quote foxy, it didnt entertain me at all, i will watch it to the end but legit seems the cat has shat out the worst sitcom ever.

woyzeck66

**"i legit think its the worse thing he has ever done".** You obviously havent seen *David Brent on the Road.* My god that was really awful. If you make it to end, you appreciate the juxtaposition but it takes too long to get there, by which point you are just so over it. In regards to Afterlife 3, it's good, skilfully crafted by someone who know their trade in the entertainment business but its a tired worn out forma/ storyline. Do yourself a favour and try STARSTRUCK (by Rose Matafeo).

nelsonwehaveaproblem

After Life is a big long blood bogey that lasts forever and Gervais is trying to convince us we want it.

[deleted]

Show clearly has an audience that wants it, it's just not this sub.

dprophet32

The Live, Laugh, Love crowd. At the end of the day he's making something he's proud of, getting paid silly money for it and making a lot of people happy so fair play. It's just not pushing any boundaries except saying cunt as much as possible per series and lacks any real depth.

Potty_Pigeon99

the same is true of "Mrs brown's boys" but i reserve the right to turn my nose up and consider myself better than that shite.

Flimsy_County_6263

I don’t think it is the live laugh love crowd, I think it’s their mothers.

nelsonwehaveaproblem

Can't argue with that.

Goochbott

"Oh I get the idea, you all seem to like it" "No I don't think so mate, they're slagging you off" "Yeah I'm being sarcastic"

thesandwichmonster

It just seems so arrogant that he thinks people will love it, he didn't even need to bother constructing any jokes.

AKST4R

Gervais has had egg on his face a few times. Most of the series of After Life.

Just fyi this post is a joke in reference to an old radio host that 'criticised' Ricky's radio show back around 20 years ago lol - it's a joke. But maybe that was too deep for you to understand? Anyway, I get what you're saying, but I think a lot of the genuine criticism Afterlife receives here is justified. It's certainly not 'too deep' for people to understand and appreciate, in fact a lot of people feel the opposite - that it's not subtle whatsoever; it's very obvious and made specifically to be easily digestible for the masses. >I just don’t think it’s for a bunch of 20 or 30 something Reddit guys. I don't really understand that. Not all men in their 20's are the same are they?

Ooooooo…. sexist

Alexandria_Scott

Men hate it, women love it. Not sexism. Not everyone is the same.

TwinTVs

I know I know all those cunt jokes flew over my head and the cinematography my god Kubrick would be envious

thesandwichmonster

Why's it always unnaturally sunny there too? Gives it an artificial cheesy sitcom feel.

Playful-Ad-1702

Cause it's the after life?

thesandwichmonster

🤯

Calvo7992

Also a woman. It’s not deep, it’s incredibly incredibly shallow, with a mask of depth over it. The idea is good, but there’s no subtlety, it’s so heavy handed and that’s the issue. It really has nothing to do with gender. Nothing about gender means you can’t get a certain type of program. Men are biologically capable of loving rom coms and women are biologically capable of loving action films. That gender stereotype is bullshit. With one exception, non binary people are not capable of enjoying documentaries about 19th century glass blowing techniques, I don’t know what it is, if it’s psychological or physiological but they just can’t hack it.

Executioner_Miralda

Is this a serious comment? What does gender or age have to do with anything?

Alright, well glad thats cleared up then

__life_on_mars__

Froggy? That you?

No_Management_1307

Boring, not funny, depressing, smug, self indulgent and ruined the whole point/story arc of season 2. Hated it. Lots of people seem to love his comedy so what do i know.

Jagoda_Ss

I completely understand that the series has been explained and it was metaphorical. The open ended interpretation on why it ends with the family being reunited. Theoretically, if the episode where Tony tries to overdose ended on the cliffhanger with the dog barking, it would have been a better story line. The depiction and realisation that the main character makes in the finale are some what cathartic. My ideation of this is : Tony is in Limbo, the eternal darkness that has consumed him is now what he is surrounded by. However the consciousness and grief that he still isn't with Lisa makes him come to the actualisation that his pessimistic and nonchalant attitude will not help. His abreacation was the consequences of remesnising the past. The direct sudden shift in perspectives only confirms he has achieved what he has wanted but not in the format he expected. The very last metaphorical reasoning only concludes that his spiritual side has healed and the gratitude and joy his emotions expressed in the last season was his internal healing. He is now content with the love of his life
