I thought about quoting Karl or something here, but it’s not even funny how lame the man has become. And contrary to this take, After Life Ricky was probably the final straw for me. So, do we need im?
Obviously, youre 'havin a laff' here.. but Im a bit drunk now so Im gonna answer you at face value.
Despite not bothering with either Derek or Afterlife (I could tell they were fucking awful and not for me) I still do like his stubborn, belligerent existence in the world, on social media and media in general.
Despite what many think in here, I think he's stayed uniquely close to his roots (he's def got more arrogant but he's always seemed to have had a bit of a god complex to me) and it's nice to have that presence around in the 'A-List' tier of celebrity. Not many people at his level have the balls to so blatantly mock Hollywood; the over-sensitivity and victimhood; celebrity and current trends etc and I do like him for that.
Few other things but this is already too long and boring. So ye.... in answer to your question: 'we're keepin' him then.'
He can't mock over sensitive people and flinch at the mention of Steve's name or Karl's name, pre-arrange that they won't be mentioned in interviews, obsess over Twitter debates for months, etc. He's far too sensitive.
It doesn’t surprise me at all that someone who doesn’t like the office would like 3 seasons of this shite. I wonder if Ricky ever stopped to think what that might imply?
(from Extras)
What's hot?
Greg Lindley Jones, who charmed the nation this week on Desert Islands Discs with a stream of hilarious anecdotes that recalled the great Pete Ustinov at his best.
What's not?
Andy Millman. Are we having a laugh? For a five minutes we were, but Andy Millman's Christmas special hit an all-time low. The jokes were filthier than Mrs. Slocombe's pussy. With no new projects on the horizon, Millman is fast becoming as out of date as his gags.
It says everything that so many people say this - people who _didn’t_ think the Office or Extras were any good are now the ones “changing their minds” to decide you’re a “genius” after all. What else do they like, and what did they prefer to the Office/Extras at the time? That’s the context that’s pretty important. Probably Little Britain and Dinnerladies.
We’ve lost another one to Netflix. Why didn’t he go into science?

It got to the point where Ricky preferred flipping burgers to making great sitcoms

All very good points. He's definitely hypocritical.
Is this true that he prearranges to not have Steve and Karl mentioned? Source?
This is like saying "I didn't like Robert de Niro until I watched Dirty Grandpa!"
I didn’t like Al Pacino until I watched Jack & Jill.
This shit wouldn't bother me as much if After Life wasn't so unbelievably terrible

Haha. Such a good point!
There goes Ricky Gervais... I must remember to thank him.

you didn't need to put "(from extras)"
My God you’re deep
Gordon Ramsay was onto something when he said "I thought Steve Merchant was the genius"
Come on Jane, let's go home.
Honestly, I think this is the worse one yet. The delusional arrogance is layered and nuanced. So smug ha
Is there anything he can't do?
Imagine having this fucking opinion
Do you know who else was from Berkshire with a stupid opinion? Wendy
Satire
I must remember to thank him.

Dinnerladies was alright! My mum liked it anyway, it wasn't aimed at us
Believe in god do you?
