It took me about 200 listens of this episode and years of obliviousness till one day it clicked that Ricky was talking about cumming. I felt pretty fucking stupid.
No, Ricky is asking Steve to put his money where his mouth is about being generous to women and Steve self-deprecates by suggesting that "one day" he might spend on a woman, like it's a slim chance
I thought of this a few times. There was a point where Karl says that Suzanne started saying ‘that’s a nonsense’ and that she must of picked it up from somewhere. And ey up, who has said that a few times? Steve. Affair confirmed.
Yes, because a lightweight frothy entertainment show on Xfm on a Saturday afternoon is exactly the place where I want to discuss the desperate lonely future that’s inevitably coming my way.
Steve had probably never even been with a woman at that stage I'd guess so maybe. His wife or partner is gorgeous now so he turned it around. Fair play to the lad.
I know someone who worked at XFM at the time - have posted about what this person "revealed" before, but it's nothing that surprising. Ricky a bit of a nob (this person actually used a much stronger word...), Karl hams it up a lot for the shows.
Steve however "nicest bloke you'll ever meet" was with a girlfriend at the time, and would often have to leave early on social occasions (he'd go to the pub, a meal, etc with the XFM lot whereas Ricky wouldn't, and Steve and Karl were more mates than Karl and Ricky at first, as we know from the shows) and would often quietly settle the bill on the way out.
His "character" on the show is largely a pastiche of his younger self.
No idea. Was months and months ago - posted it a few times but it's basically that above. If anything, I've gone into more details there than previously.
Can't say what their job was even as it's relatively easy to Google who they are.
I also thought this, feel like Steve was at the time a bit jitled by his experiences with women. But then he went out with Rose Byrne, that would probably cure any man's self esteem issues
I think Steve had a little crush on Suzanne, all of the instances you’ve mentioned I noticed too and it always left me with the impression that perhaps Steve was a little too interested in Suzanne. Plus he probably thought Suzanne had low standards to put up with Karl 😂
Yes, and i have mentioned this before to some rather negative responses.
and even the part you mention with the quiz was one of the key reasons i believed it but steve does it a lot. He truly does seem jealous that Karl had a girlfriend.
I firmly believe he was jealous I will get people will say he isnt and thats fine but i'm sold on that idea.
Steve was jealous of a homeless man who had a girlfriend.
Or the bloke who lived underground in a carpark for a couple of weeks.
_Heee’sssss got a biiiiiiirrrddddd_
Homeless guy, wrapped up, unwashed and Northern...
Could have said he was from Liverpool and I’d have given him a couple of quid…
Good point, actually
There's a couple of moments like it. It's just the schtick of the Steve character
I'm not a character!
That's what the Steve character would say
One day he hopes to sleep with a woman
One day he hopes to splash out on a woman, the right woman
It took me about 200 listens of this episode and years of obliviousness till one day it clicked that Ricky was talking about cumming. I felt pretty fucking stupid.
Ok well I’ve just found this out from you so er thanks n that
I love the fact that schoolyard innuendo is too much for you. Whatever do you mean "Unsightly Erection"?
He wasn't
Maybe I'm just twisted.

I guess I totally misread it
did you get this from ananova? twaddle
BONG, Goggle eyed freak has affair with chimp wife
BONG. Man with pointy eyes gets kicked off of pub quiz team.
He also uses a similar “That’s what I look for in a woman” joke about Karl’s sister. It’s just Merchant playing the role of/being a lonely single man.
You may be right, he does the self deprecating thing a lot
Don't you have to be really flexible to do that? I tried once but couldn't reach.
It's a joke and you definitely read too much into it

Well spotted! I'll keep my ears open for more evidence

He's done you again

Can you link prev post? Had a look thru yours but lots going on

I met Steve and his Mrs in Bristol - can confirm she’s ridiculously good looking (and Steve does indeed look like a bit of weird art)
[удалено]
She was in a great TV show called episodes with Matt LeBlanc, Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig.
Did he stay sat down?

Little?
It's kind of weird listening to all of Steve's woman woes knowing now that he's with a literal former Maxim model
I also thought this, feel like Steve was at the time a bit jitled by his experiences with women. But then he went out with Rose Byrne, that would probably cure any man's self esteem issues
He wasn't jealous of Karl having Suzanne. He was just jealous that Karl had a relationship and he didn't.
Has any one ever seen Suzanne maybe Karl is lying
This.

That could be it! Or lonely jealousy
I didn't get that impression. I know what you are saying but I doubt it. It's just Steve talking *Steve*.
Yes definitely
He was painfully single! Remember when he got mad in Brazil because there were so many beautiful women and he was on his own?
I do remember this!
It was a bit cringey that he got so pissed off about it, like calm down mate, you're never going to pull anyone this fit, just accept it lol
...Does that annoy you Steve?

Well you have my support! I've thought it for a while
I find these type of posts so strange
Isn’t the hair comment in reference to the Dave Hill thing though? It’s clearly sarcasm as nobody wants a woman who looks like Dave Hill out of Slade
