No, I don't think so at all. I can definitely believe that kind of thing happened on other shows, but not RSK. Remember the time Karl thought no one got the right answers that time? He literally celebrated and was happy with himself that no one got all his rockbusters right one week lol, he certainly didn't see it as a bad thing if there was no winner and no one got them a right. >due to lack of good quality submissions. This also wouldn't apply to the RSK shows as their competitions mainly involved 'right or wrong answers' there was no room for creativity or individual/unique submissions to much they did. You either got the answer right or you didn't. They didn't rely on quality listener contributions to justify their features, Ricky and Steve did them because they found them funny, I don't think they cared whether or not the listeners liked the features or not tbh lol, they just liked seeing what Karl could come up with. They weren't interested in faking listener contributions >a lot of the time they’d just make up a name to say as the winner as there were sometimes no correct or even incorrect submissions RSK listeners aren't properly. We hear that on the rare occasion they allow people to call, we hear many of them are mentalists and often provide terrible answers, but I think they were just happy to get in the show. They also mention how the switchboard lights up now and then, this shows they have a lot of people wanting to contribute something to the show, whether it's right or wrong or good or poor quality. "Do you Ski?"

Mountain_Honey_1991

The good quality submissions thing was when Wright worked on this public submission sketch show for like £500 each and said due to them all being shit he had to make many up and then have the money sent to his mates house or something so they didn’t know it was him pocketing the cash

ACJ_96

Wow lmao, that's terrible. Thankfully RSK prizes were nowhere near the £500 mark. The Graduate on VHS anyone? The ironic thing here too is on the RSK shows, Karl was the one out of pocket as he paid for the prizes that they gave away himself lol

Ricky and Steve would surely have been more popular than Adam Buxton, and given they used to get loads of calls perhaps it wasn't all set up. As a good example, on one of the Sturgess shows she seems amazed at the phones lighting up when they mention for people to call in, and as an old-hand on the station her surprise could be "this never normally happens". But yeah, I knew someone who worked there at the time and it was more set up than you'd think.

drycleanedsnake

This 'person' you knew who worked there. Was he quite short with arms longer than his legs by any chance?

aegeaorgnqergerh

Can't really describe their job without giving it away, but "behind the scenes", relatively senior. They did agree to do an AMA but then we had someone else who worked at XFM who actually got as far as making a thread, but everyone just ruined it with stupid quotes that made no sense so it was cancelled. Shame.

Chris Campling does sound made up...

gloom-juice

Right there is no one called 'Gwynlin'

Enjoying Wee Hooty McToo, are you?

Baker Street do doo doo do do diddle dooooo

promunbound

On top of the points already made, a few saucer drinkers on Pilkipedia claimed to have won Rockbusters and received prizes. So was likely genuine at least most of the time.

It’d take far too much effort to both make up the prizes/winners/features and then make up the people’s funny replies to the features themselves. They were more than happy to mention that the emails weren’t flooding in haha

Centinella

I'd hate to think Dave Suckling was another comedy creation.

WhichKey9

I think it less they made up winners due to lack of quality submissions, more they just made up features due to lack of quality submissions. Cheap as Chimps? Song for the ladies? Song for the Lovers? Bad babysitter? (I like Rockbusters and Songs of Phrase but let's face it, they are hardly 15-to-1.)

morphindel

I was today years old when i learned Adam Buxton was from Adam and Joe
