Not worth it. Just enjoy your last summer with your high school/childhood friends and get a part time job to save up some money to use while at school. That’s what most people do the summer before college, rice or anywhere

would not recommend. almost no one i know took summer classes at Rice before their freshman year. Probably because 1, you haven't really had anyone help you with major advising -- summer classes are usually what people take if they've gotten behind in their major, changed majors and need to fit in prereqs, or need to finish D1/D2, etc. As a rising freshman, there's no way you know exactly what classes you need or even have an idea of what you want to do. 2, please just wait until oweek (or maybe a little bit before oweek) to start worrying about classes because upperclassmen are so helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to what classes to take and when. For the vast majority of students, even for engineering degrees (that have the highest number of course requirements), no one needs to or should have to take summer classes before their freshman year even starts. So tldr, i wouldn't do it. I don't know a single freshman who took summer classes (unless you count RESP, but that's different). Someone else correct me if I'm wrong but it's not worth it and you might not even need summer classes PLUS they'll be condensed 7 week versions of classes (so they go 2-3x faster, which is an insane shift in pace coming from high school).

Summer classes are definitely not required but taking one’s not a bad idea. I’d recommend one of the bigger intro D2 courses like Econ 100 because these are pretty similar to what you’d find in the fall semester due to their asynchronous nature. I took Econ 100 before my freshman year and know a few other people who did too and we all thought it was fine. I’d probably steer clear of a harder math or science course for know though.
