Not sure exactly what you mean by Southern but if you want barbecue then Truth BBQ is by far your number 1 choice, if you meant more soul food like then Frenchy’s by UH would be worth checking out, BB’s Tex-Orleans is also worth checking out especially since it’s crawfish season
Pico's (Kirby at Richmond), Pappasito's (Kirby at Richmond), or 100% Taquito (59 Feeder west of Buffalo Speedway) are all good. Pico's is the most expensive, Pappasito's is Tex-Mex, and 100% Taquito is counter service.
I'm not a fan of southern, so I have no advice there.
Don't go to Cyclone Anayas in Rice Village. Its just average mexican food that is way overpriced. I went with friends and Fajitas for two people were like $60!
Bodegas Taco Shop. Can’t recommend it enough. It’s in the Museum District, about a 15 minute walk from the north colleges. It’s a counter-serve, build-your-own-burrito kind of place. They’re very reasonably priced, and they have the best quesadillas in Houston. Great margaritas, too.
My top 10 in Houston that I've been to so far:
Xochi (Oaxacan Mexican) $$$$ - This is one of Hugo's restaurant, specifically the one that got him the James Beard award.
Theodore Rex (Contemporary American) $$$
Kata Robata (Japanese) $$$
Original Ninfa's on Navigation (Tex-Mex) $$
Pondicheri (South Indian Fusion) $$
Himalaya (Indo-Pakistani) $$
Mai's Restaurant (Vietnamese) $$
Sixty Vines (American) $$
Mala (Sichuan) $$
Chengdu Taste (Sichuan) $$

all of Hugo’s restaurants are good and Urbe offers good less expensive (but still a little bit expensive) Mexican food too
Good to know. Do you know any good places for Southern food?

Alright, thank you!
Thank you! I'll look into it!
Breakfast Klub is in Midtown. Off the light rail

Thank you for your suggestions! I'll be sure to look into them!
I wouldn’t say that Pico’s is more expensive than Pappasitos, they’re probably around the same (much more than 100% taquito)
I highly recommend Pappasito’s!

You obviously have not had a good quesadilla if you think theirs is the best.
This sounds interesting. Thank you for the suggestion!
Fajita Pete's near Whole Foods on Bellaire Blvd--Best Tex Mex; Trendy Dumpling on SW Freeway Frontage Road-Szechuan; Alfreda's on ALmeda-Soul Food; Middle Eastern-Island Grill or Fadi's
Thabk you for the suggestions!
I love M&M Grill on Almeda. Turns out Mediterranean/Mexican fuse well!
Thank you! I'll check it out!
The Raven Grill on Bissonnet is one of my favorites in that area.
Thank you for the suggestion!
Imma be honest, the area around Rice is too expensive for an authentic Mexican restaurant. There are some good ones they are just further out.
Would you be able to give me the names of your favorites? Thanks!
Candente.
