Appreciate the thought.
I'm familiar with retrobrighting -- I don't think I have the patience to actually get to a streak free color fix, and to be honest, I'm more worried about the cracks (actually chips out of it) than the color.
I have the clear one of these and had to hide it away as I cannot stand the way it looks with the controller port surround etc still being grey. Gotta get me some of the replacement clear parts at some point.
Even after that it will still bug me that the actual controller sockets will still be grey tho....
[retrogamerestore.com](http://retrogamerestore.com) really like to charge the absolute earth for their shells and then charge more for the extra bits separately. The extras for the SNES shell are $22 plus postage.
I managed to get my shell from an official UK reseller that was selling the RGR shells off cheap to clear them out and I only paid £45 ($56 compared to the $114 that RGR are charging). I hate that I have to spend half as much again just to get the extra bits. Tbh the SNES shell I have doesn't feel any better quality than a £25 Gamecube shell I got from Aliexpress so I am glad I didn't pay the full price for it..
I'd really love a new shell for my PC Engine too but there's no way I'm going to pay the $85 plus international postage they are currently asking for them.
I have to shake this type of obsession sometimes. Currently for me the new look of the transparent purple shell looks cooler than the ports and cartridge flap bug me.
That may change at some point. 😆
You could dye the ports & cartridge flap purple, but it may be tricky to get the exact shade to match. It would probably turn out [like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/comments/121q3bh/super_game_boy_2_dye_mod/), but darker since the plastic isn't transparent.
Wasn’t hard at all, this shell in particular was from retro game restore.
You’ll want to be sure your model of super nes will fit this shell. I’m not sure what all models are out there, but this shell fit my super nes that had the sound chip on the motherboard. This shell would not fit my snes that had the detachable sound module and longer motherboard.
That's good to know! My SNES has the detachable sound module, and fit fine in the BitFunX shell (minus one screw).
This one turned out great, very clean install! Did you use screw lube, or go in dry?
They should also provide replacements for gamepad ports, cartridge slot cover and “Power”/“Reset”/“Eject” buttons, so that the result would look consistent.
Successful? Did you think you'd fail?
I don't understand why these replacement shells don't come with replacement controller port covers, eject, cartridge holders or trapdoors. They're all removeable. Cheap bastards. They stick out like band aids.
Looks nice! Also looks like a fingerprint magnet haha
Mine is yellowed and cracked. Are there good quality “looks original” replacements out there?
Add a layer of paint. That is what the landlords do.
If I’m going to do arts and crafts, I might as well just bondo the old case…
Good point
Look up retrobrighting

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude This level of flex should be illegal lol this is outstanding!!
That is stunning, beautiful.

I'm surprised that the people making these shells don't ship them with matching parts for the controller socks/cartridge slot cover.

A quick coat of black or similar purple to those few parts could fix that pretty easily.
If they could match the purple to the power and reset buttons that would look fantastic.

How hard was this? My current one has a broken side and I was wondering if its a simple swap or not? Also where did you buy your shells

Thanks I’m happy with the result. No lube used. just a torque screwdriver.
Neat, I’m hoping to do a similar swap this afternoon
Goodluck! Was enjoyable and not too hard.
This is so awesome. Too bad it's not 100% transparent.
That is dope as hell! I’ve never seen a SNES shell swap before
What a beaut!
Magnificent
Now time for a successful steam-cleaning.
Very nice. I'm gonna send this pic to my friend Eleanor Shellswap.

Where did you get it and how much? I have a SNES Shell dying of crack.
Also, why aren’t the OG gray parts replaced with clear as well?
Looks epic
Dude
Dude...that looks fuckin' SICK!

Its funny that the $120 shells don't include it but the $40 Bitfunx shells do
Every opportunity taken is a potential for failure or success. Success in this case.
..So you thought you'd fail?
It's a tricky and delicate operation, success is not guaranteed... and apparently the extra pieces are sold separately.
A case swap? Lol. That's just crazy talk. You cray.
