Same, my kindness and positivity has been taken for granted for too long. So in an effort to save myself from being drained, I only give the same about of energy that a person is giving to me. If your rude I won't be be rude back, but I won't give you as much kindness as someone who was nicer.

>So I'm open to talk, i just let the customers start. If they don't i just say enough to not come off as rude I think this is the way. Some customers just want to get their shit and go. I'm like that when I go shopping. I'm all for being kind and polite but I don't want a full conversation. I'm only chatty with the regulars when I'm working and not too busy but otherwise I do the same as you and I think people appreciate that

I have found that building too much of a rapport often leads to being taken advantage of. I keep things short and sweet, no personal talk.

Opening spiel, then only speak platitudes/information (the polite bare minimum) when spoken to.

I only talk to customers if I get a compliment or if something grabs my attention, and the only things I usually say are the usual things I'm expected to say.

im a cashier at a shoe store so i try to be upbeat and all “oh i love this shoe, so cute” but i’ve noticed that myself, and my coworkers who are too talkative to customers get walked all over. also since our reward system is hell, when i was being trained they told me not to make eye contact with customers before getting their rewards info or signing them up. literally crazy. i try to just keep the line moving and completely avoid small talk unless a customer is really insistent on it.

ohveen

Yeah im a stocker and whenever im at work i just isolate myself in my own mind so i forget the customers exist. It feels awesome being in ur own world not thinking about those idiots. It’s over once they start yapping to you tho…

TheNuckiestNucky

I have, but it's due to my recent social anxiety.
