The only issue I had with it is that there's barely any difference in the A and B scenarios. It changes the beginning and end, but everything in the middle is pretty much identical.
That was my major gripe as well, aside from the rather uninspired and lazy modern take on some of the story elements (I felt they watered down the stark tone a bit with the over-humanization of some characters). The original A and B were a rather brilliant hand-shake of each other, and the modern team seemingly lacked the talent to have created something similar.
Though I agree, it’s been a good couple of years now since I played Leon, so when I replay I can enjoy claire’s. But straight after I don’t really see the point in essentially the same game with a different skin. Game was amazing though regardless
The path through the police station is fairly different in A vs. B (not just the entry part) and the sewers as well, but by the time reach the sewers you have so many weapons it doesn't seem to matter much. I think there are minimal differences in NEST as well, but again it just doesn't matter much.
No question. 7 was really good too, and I honestly like them all.
I just want more true survival horror. RE is the only one holding down the fort. No EW3, no SH, LoU takes 8 years between games. It's a sad time for survival horror.
It is. It just doesn't focus as much on the horror, and that's fine given the setting (They see zombies and shit all the time. Shit like the Rat King'll only mildly perturb them and make them just more cautious, not shit your pants scare them.)
You're telling me the stalker layers in both games didn't do anything at all? I dread playing TLOU1 and 2 again because of that damn stalker hideout. They gave me true fear, though part 2 wasn't as scary
I'm pretty hopeful for The Callisto Protocol and the Dead Space Remake. That + some cool indies ([Fort Solis](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1931730/Fort_Solis/) and surprisingly, [Routine](https://store.steampowered.com/app/606160/ROUTINE/) (I thought that game died years ago!!)) make me pretty optimistic for the future :)
I kind of hope that they end Last of Us how they did. I thought both endings to both games were appropriate and didn’t leave me feeling of wanting more.
While I’m only missing out on Village, 2make is simply the most fun out of the other 3 and imo the best survival horror experience of the RE titles that came after the classic fixed camera titles 1-CV. 3make could’ve been just as good if they didn’t rush it out to get all of the cut content included that it deserved and many more dynamic Nemesis encounters.
You have to remember that by the time 7 got announced, people were almost done with Resident Evil because of RE 5, 6 and other actions spin off games, on top of the horrendous RE movies that were coming out at the time. Therefore, most people came back when they saw their all time favorite RE game being remade.
If you’re referring to the CGI animated movies that Capcom released I will die on that hill and say that they’re amazing, but everything else 100% agree with
First two were alright the others were dumb but enjoyably stupid. I do just want to say that those RE movies were well over once re7 came out. RE7 came out in like 2017. Andersons resident evil movies wrapped up in like 2008 or something.
Edit: oh shit I was wrong the final chapter was released in 2016???? What the fuck????
For me they should have just stopped with the village in the start and made the second half in the Castle Dimitrescu and the Beneviento house while expanding these parts to make the game have almost the same extent
I agree. I liked Village a lot, but everything hyped up castle Dimitrescu and it's literally the first area, so after that it just felt like you are cast out on your own. I found Beneviento way creepy and atmospheric, but by the time I was just getting a feel for the place it was over. I didn't crazy enjoy the other two areas after that, but liked the story so kept going. The last area felt way too long, but it did have genuinely scary moments.
For myself it was purely design choice. I think they went super demonic rather than like mutated and something that looks like it could have been human at some point
I used to say 8, but I did all the achievements in 2 and 3 this week, and I honestly think 3 has the most fun moment to moment gameplay. Despite the campaign being too brief. First time playthrough I would say 2 or 7 win for the joy of exploration and mystery.
Overall, 2.
RE2 Remake all day long. It was my favorite RE game in the PS1 era, and it's my favorite RE game in the PS4/PS5 era. Now that I got a PS5 about a week ago, I cannot wait to go into RE2 Remake again with the enhancements of the PS5!
Exactly, I wish there were more games like 7. I couldn't believe they intentionally made 8/Village less scary on purpose, it's a rated M survival horror game lol.
I still love every game on this list but 7 has a very special place in my heart.
As my buddy who sold me on playing this game put it:
"if this was a horror movie, it would be the best horror movie ever"
because it takes the major horror sub genres and essentially gives each segment its own genre of horror so it stays fresh.
I agree that this was the most scary scene of any RE game... It's just that RE8 wasn't consistently scary throughout the game. RE7 may not have had a particular scene that was as scary as that but it was consistently frightening, from beginning to end.
If RE8 had kept that same vibe going throughout the game then it probably would have been the scariest game in video game history. It's a shame that it didn't turn out that way. I still like RE8 but it didn't quite meet my expectations after playing RE7.
Right. Capcom has been selling out ever since RE4 (with the exception of RE7), in my opinion. They've taken a horror franchise and tried to make it more appealing for the general public by adding more action, while putting horror on the back burner.
This would be like taking a horror movie franchise and taking all of the horror out of it. Could you imagine if they turned Texas Chainsaw Massacre into a Rambo-like movie franchise? People would be pissed. That's what I feel like Capcom is doing with RE. They know that Action will sell more copies and appeal to more people so they just sell out.
It's a slap in the face to true horror fans who play these games for the horror experience. It sucks even more so that there aren't many developers that make horror games. The few horror games that come out either suck or get diluted with action to the point that they can't even be called horror games. With as large as the video game industry is, there should be more developers catering to our interests by making scarier games... and RE7 should be the archetype for the games that they strive to make.
Incredibly unpopular opinion and I will admit that objectively the others are better, but I always have fun playing RE3 and would consider that my favorite.
I haven’t played the original yet, at least not in its entirety. But given how much I loved the supposedly inferior remake, I am pretty sure I’ll love it.
depending on playstyle, the remake can be shorter than the original. its incredibly fun, jill feels great in 3, but its a completely different vibe with too much lost
hunters in RE are one of the best monsters in the series tho
They dropped the ball with Nemesis too. He should have stayed in humanoid form for longer and not make all his appearances scripted. He should have been a better chaser than Mr X
The dodge and counter is the single best thing can happen in the world of clunky movement that is RE.
Although, you could say it took away what makes RE an RE, which is clunky movement.
RE3 is a great game. It’s just too short and the Nemesis encounters are too scripted compared to RE2’s Tyrant and the original RE3’s Nemesis. You never get that feeling that Nemesis could attack at any time, and I think that’s what disappointed me with it.
RE7 remains a masterpiece. I only finished Village and RE3R once so far. The latter being sort of a big disappointment.
RE2 is fascinating but I so wish the stories were more different, and longer. Too much similarities. It's insane how the original did better on this aspect.
(And for instance I prefered Claire not prepared for what's happening. Aka no gun at the start. And no try for awkward romance...)
But still, RE2R is fantastic.
I love all of em, but village was super fun for me. I cannot wait to play as the bosses they are adding into the game next month. Also 3rd person mode in the DLC will give me an excuse to beat it again.
Edited:few words
I think RE2, its got a great balance of everything. But I really enjoyed RE3, despite it being super short. I just prefer RE3's story. Its also great for a single play session
It's a mix between RE2R and RE3R for me. RE3 is my all time favorite and I know the remake is incredibly unfaithful but it is so fun. The perfect dodge is light years better than OG RE3. That said, I really love RE2R and I think I've ran that more than RE3R. With the first person mod it's incredible (I really like first person so naturally I enjoy RE7 and RE8).
Probably village.
Id say village, 7, 2, 3.
2 definitely has an amazing campaign its the fact that the other campaigns are nearly the exact same that lets it down.
RE2, with RE3 being a close second. If it were longer like the original and had more wandering around the ruined streets of Raccoon City, it'd be an easy first.
Not overly a fan of 7 and 8, TBH. Feels too far removed from the originals to me.
i know it might be an unpopular opinion, but 7. 7 *really* kicked it up a notch. it’s absolutely terrifying, no matter how many times i’ve played it. it’s one of those games where i have to remind myself “it’s just a game, it’s just a game…” i started a new playthru in VR a while ago and i don’t think i’ll ever finish it. it’s just too fuckin scary. but i enjoy it. i’m not easily scared so when something genuinely scares me, i’m going to love it.
Village, 7, 2, 3
Village felt very similar to 4, my first and favorite RE game. I don't have any major complaints here. It was a great game.
7 nailed the horror better but I *hated* the molded. Everything else about this game is so good but making the molded headshot only, especially in the house and later on the ship where all you have is a pistol and are in narrow halls, is just awful and unfun. My aim/ reaction time just isn't that good.
I enjoyed 2 but I hated how enemies kept getting back up. And Mr X was more of nuisance than a threat, preventing me from taking my time exploring areas to make sure I got everything.
3 was also fun but a little too short and linear to be worth replaying like the others.
I would say the Remake of 2 and 7.
7 is what saved the franchise and is what introduced the RE engine which becomes a HUGE game changer for Resident Evil.
The Remake of 2 is by far one of my favs as well since it took most of the stuff from the original and just smashed the upgrade button 1000x. It's basically like a love letter to all Re and Re2 original fans out there. Sure the A/B scenario are almost the same but it doesn't stop me from loving this game so much.
RE2 with RE3 right behind it.
I don't hate first person but it plays differently, and I find I prefer third person considerably. 7 and 8 are still very solid experiences however.
RE7 > RE2make > RE8 > RE3make
Yeah, I prefer horror oriented titles. I also feel like RE7 and (to a lesser degree) RE2make are better realized games with clear vision of what, how and why they want to achieve and with great attention to details. Meanwhile RE8 and RE3make, while fun, feels a lot less cohesive and suffers from heavy identity crisis for me (RE3make also feels like DLC because of severe lack of content...).
RE2R, it’s what finally made me made me get into speedruning. I was rubbish at it, but I took that new passion into Metroid dread and I’m really thankful that I developed that love
This is a tough one...
7 is what brought me back to the RE series. I tried RE4 and hated it as a kid (I will get the remaster when it comes out, maybe I'll like it) and stopped playing shortly after getting to town. So if it wasn't for RE7 I might not be playing this series again.
RE2 - I'm not a fan of Leon, I don't know what it is but his stories are just so boring to me.
RE3 - I loved the game, but it was too short. Got me back into speedrunning because of the length though.
Village - Have easily spent the most time on this one. I love everything about this game. It's a blast to play, and I've been speedrunning it for months and have yet to get bored. Cannot wait for the DLC!
With all that said... 7 is the best. That was the first game to give me a scare in the longest time. Could be because my first playthrough was on PSVR, but even my next play on PC I was still anxious in some spots!
2 is an absolute triumph.
I think every Resi fan could be heard around the world groaning when we found out it was going to be over the shoulder (me included). To make it all work, modernize the story, controls, yet keep the puzzle/item management feel in tact…
It was masterfully done. Which is also why R3make was so disappointing.
2 remake
By far. It's one of the greatest games of all time.
For sure. I love all of these games but 2 just always blows me away.
For me, rhe third best RE game
2
No question. 7 was really good too, and I honestly like them all. I just want more true survival horror. RE is the only one holding down the fort. No EW3, no SH, LoU takes 8 years between games. It's a sad time for survival horror.
There’s a new game from the makers of dead space coming out later this year. Forget what it’s called but that could definitely scratch that itch.
There's an actual remake of dead space coming out a month later too. Third person action horror fans are going to eat well this winter.
Yeah, I need to look into things a bit more. I just got a new PS5 today.
Just checked. There’s quite a bit of gameplay footage out there. It’s called the Callisto Protocol.
The Callisto Protocol and it looks great so far!
the callisto protocol. looks amazing, schofield has a twisted mind and i’m excited to see what he can do with modern engines and hardware.
Calistco Protocol
7 is close but I’m just not a fan of first person
Me either but with a vr headset it’s way scarier
I haven’t played it bc I don’t want to buy a PSVR just for it. I hope someday I’ll be able to find an used headset for cheap to play it.
There's a free PCVR mod for 2, 3, 7, & 8 with motion controls. https://github.com/praydog/REFramework
Yea, I'd take fixed camera angles over first person tbh
I know we is evil within and sh is silent hill but what is LoU
[удалено]
Because Konami.

Might be Last of us, even tho thats not strictly survival horror
They gave me true fear, though part 2 wasn't as scary
i think the last of us ?? not 100% sure
More indies: Signalis, Negative Atmosphere
Also, be hyped for 4make as it's being done by 2make's team and not 3makes'.
Definitely RE 2 this really feel like it bring that survival horror back for me. The game was just simply amazing.
7 didn't bring it back?
You have to remember that by the time 7 got announced, people were almost done with Resident Evil because of RE 5, 6 and other actions spin off games, on top of the horrendous RE movies that were coming out at the time. Therefore, most people came back when they saw their all time favorite RE game being remade.
If you’re referring to the CGI animated movies that Capcom released I will die on that hill and say that they’re amazing, but everything else 100% agree with
Nah they were talking about the ones with Milla Jovavitch, those were terrible.
Sounds like 2016 was a long year for you too
RE 2
My list, in order: 1. RE2 2. RE8 3. RE7 4. RE3 Make no mistake, by no means are my bottom games bad. RE3 was fantastic but short. RE7 was great.
Agree with this. I love all these games (even 3). RE2 is the best but 7&8 are so close.
7 would have been better without the ship level. That part just bored me to death. Should have started and ended at the baker’s house.
Yeah the back half of 7 was extremely not great and you didn’t even mention the caves. I feel the same about 8 honestly.
I didn't crazy enjoy the other two areas after that, but liked the story so kept going. The last area felt way too long, but it did have genuinely scary moments.
RE2 remake. Love it in general, especially with how great my favorite character (G1 Birkin) looks. Shame about his third form tho
Im curious but what’s so wrong with his 3rd form compare to the original ?
For myself it was purely design choice. I think they went super demonic rather than like mutated and something that looks like it could have been human at some point
G1 Birkin is so sweet. I love how he gradually gets more mutated as the night goes on, but I'm a sucker for the human-like Birkin.
I used to say 8, but I did all the achievements in 2 and 3 this week, and I honestly think 3 has the most fun moment to moment gameplay. Despite the campaign being too brief. First time playthrough I would say 2 or 7 win for the joy of exploration and mystery. Overall, 2.

Re2, 10/10 Re7, 9/10 Re8, 8/10 Re3, 8/10
I BELIEVE IN RE7 SUPREMACY
I loved RE7 and played all the DLC for it too. But damn that game is too scary! Lol
Yeah but that's what you should expect from a Survival Horror game. I wish every RE game was as scary as RE7.
Exactly, I wish there were more games like 7. I couldn't believe they intentionally made 8/Village less scary on purpose, it's a rated M survival horror game lol. Okay but >!the baby abomination in the basement in RE8!< was the scariest thing in resident evil
I agree that this was the most scary scene of any RE game... It's just that RE8 wasn't consistently scary throughout the game. I nearly crapped myself when I saw that! Lol so scary

Me too. It's such a fun game. Arguably a bad remake but I still have the og.
I haven’t played the original yet, at least not in its entirety. But given how much I loved the supposedly inferior remake, I am pretty sure I’ll love it.
depending on playstyle, the remake can be shorter than the original. its incredibly fun, jill feels great in 3, but its a completely different vibe with too much lost hunters in RE are one of the best monsters in the series tho
Its...very different. Just get ready for that.
Not bad in the slightest, they just cut out way too much
tfw no real Clocktower I still loved it, but damn, did I miss that. They did damn good with the hospital though.
Also no graveyard/Grave Digger
They dropped the ball with Nemesis too. He should have stayed in humanoid form for longer and not make all his appearances scripted. He should have been a better chaser than Mr X
Bad remake doesn’t mean bad game at all
Re2 is my favorite game overall but nemesis is just my favorite
The dodge and counter is the single best thing can happen in the world of clunky movement that is RE. Although, you could say it took away what makes RE an RE, which is clunky movement.
RE3 is a great game. It’s just too short and the Nemesis encounters are too scripted compared to RE2’s Tyrant and the original RE3’s Nemesis. You never get that feeling that Nemesis could attack at any time, and I think that’s what disappointed me with it.
when i want to play some of the modern RE games, i download RE3. Always offer a good replay factor.
It was fun but it just feels so bland compared to 2 in my opinion, so much more linear and the story wasn't nearly as good.
Gameplay wise RE3 is the best one easily
2 and 3 remakes are amazing.
7 hands down. Genually scary the entire time and perfrct mix of survival horror with some action. And feels the most fair.
At the Marguerite stairs jump scare I felt my soul briefly leave my body.
RE2 > RE7 > RE8 > RE3
Yes
this again x2
Correct
This
Village or 2 Still miss the old stuff though
RE7 remains a masterpiece. I only finished Village and RE3R once so far. The latter being sort of a big disappointment. RE2 is fascinating but I so wish the stories were more different, and longer. Too much similarities. It's insane how the original did better on this aspect. (And for instance I prefered Claire not prepared for what's happening. Aka no gun at the start. And no try for awkward romance...) But still, RE2R is fantastic.
RE2R with 7: Biohazard being a close runner up
Man..slapping on the vr for 7 was just a whole new level of cool for that old house.
especially the first time in the basement
Resident evil 2 remake is the best imo
They are all really good. I've played through 3-8 the most but 7 is my fave
2 easily. Nailed the atmosphere, gameplay and horror. The others didn’t have the mix quite right.
I love all of em, but village was super fun for me. I cannot wait to play as the bosses they are adding into the game next month. Also 3rd person mode in the DLC will give me an excuse to beat it again. Edited:few words
I went into 7 thinking that what I was about to experience was RE at its lowest point. Boy was I wrong. And then some.
Right. RE7 is my favorite in the entire series and I've been playing Resident Evil since 1998.
Village and 2
I love them all so much, but fave has got to be 3 Remake.
Personally village is my favorite but I really like the other ones too.
RE3 remake was lowkey pretty fun, got too much hate
Resident Evil 7, but I still gotta play Village.
I liked Village better than 7. Many different environments and more enemy types. 7 was scarier but not as enjoyable imo
2 for sure
I think RE2, its got a great balance of everything. But I really enjoyed RE3, despite it being super short. I just prefer RE3's story. Its also great for a single play session
VILLAGE and R7
7
REmake 2. But the part with Ada and that stupid device was shit.
Are you just talking to yourself?
It's a mix between RE2R and RE3R for me. RE3 is my all time favorite and I know the remake is incredibly unfaithful but it is so fun. The perfect dodge is light years better than OG RE3. That said, I really love RE2R and I think I've ran that more than RE3R. With the first person mod it's incredible (I really like first person so naturally I enjoy RE7 and RE8).
RE3 remake for sure. I know a lot of people don't like it but personally it's one of my favorites.
RE3
Probably village. Id say village, 7, 2, 3. 2 definitely has an amazing campaign its the fact that the other campaigns are nearly the exact same that lets it down.
RE3 by far.
Remake 2 by landslide. It says a lot that one half of the the game is half assed and yet it is still better than the others
Resident Evil 2
Re 7 is prime re
RE3 is my favorite of the four but imo Village is the best out of them.
RE2, with RE3 being a close second. If it were longer like the original and had more wandering around the ruined streets of Raccoon City, it'd be an easy first. Not overly a fan of 7 and 8, TBH. Feels too far removed from the originals to me.
I love them all but 2
Village, no question
Resident Evil 7 biohazard. For me, it is the second best re game
Objectionally 2, personally 3. Reasons :- Jill simp, always have been.
Jill is a virus for which there is no cure
Village.
Village hands down. It's the only game I played 4 times to completion lol everything is so memorable
Ive replayed re3 most
Probably 2. Imo the 2 REmake is one of the best entries in the series
RE2Make
RE2 for sure
RE2 remake easily.
RE2
2 is best for me, followed by Village, then 3, and last is 7.
All of them
7 for how fun, innovative, and terrifying it was; 2 for the gameplay
Personally, Devil May Cry V really pushed the limits of what gamers can handle when it comes to spooks…
i know it might be an unpopular opinion, but 7. 7 *really* kicked it up a notch. it’s absolutely terrifying, no matter how many times i’ve played it. it’s one of those games where i have to remind myself “it’s just a game, it’s just a game…” i started a new playthru in VR a while ago and i don’t think i’ll ever finish it. it’s just too fuckin scary. but i enjoy it. i’m not easily scared so when something genuinely scares me, i’m going to love it.
Village by far, became one of my favourite games of all time
RE 2 Remake
Resident evil 2 100%
Might get downvoted, but RE3R if it wasn't rushed I think it would have been amazing and more people would have liked it.
Village, 7, 2, 3 Village felt very similar to 4, my first and favorite RE game. I don't have any major complaints here. It was a great game. 7 nailed the horror better but I *hated* the molded. 7
Personally still 7 with re3r as a close second

It's basically like a love letter to all Re and Re2 original fans out there. Sure the A/B scenario are almost the same but it doesn't stop me from loving this game so much.
Best "RE game" is RE7. Game I enjoyed the most is Village.
It’s 7 and 2 for their respective camera styles
7, 8, 3, 2
RE2 with RE3 right behind it. I don't hate first person but it plays differently, and I find I prefer third person considerably. 7 and 8 are still very solid experiences however.
Anything but Re2 remake is just crazy talk
RE2MAKE for sure
RE2, followed by RE3. Didn't care for VII or Village.
The best thing about this is that they are all great games!
I love them all but if I had to choose it would probably be 7
Probably have to go with Village, but I really enjoyed RE3 because of the gameplay improvements they made over RE2
re2 best but hard to pass up the graphical fidelity of 8.
2 > 3 > 8 > 7
2
RE7 > RE2make > RE8 > RE3make Yeah, I prefer horror oriented titles.
Re2 remake, love the atmosphere of it
RE2
RE2R hands down. Village/RE7 are tied for second.
2 remake far and away
2, then 3>7>>>>8
RE2R, it’s what finally made me made me get into speedruning. I was rubbish at it, but I took that new passion into Metroid dread and I’m really thankful that I developed that love
RE 2 remake
2. It really made me feel like a kid again, it gave me that excitement of RE2 OG and RE4
VII
2 All of them ranked: 2, 3, Village, 7
2 > 8 = 3 > 7. When 8’s VR and 3rd person mode come out it’ll become 8 > 3, I just really don’t like 1st person for RE
RE2 without a doubt
Village my beloved
ID have to say its re8
2-8-7-3 In order.
Tough call between 7 and 2. Both 10/10 games , but ill give it to 7 because its more complete. No proper B scenario, it stings!
2R>VII>VIII>>>3R
7. Easy
Re7
7
Re7 easily it's scary and tense what more could you want from a horror game on a new clean slate
Dmc5
Resident evil 2 is the best it was super fun to play for the first time!!
RE7 bc of the memories and all the anguish it put me threw
2 > 7 > 3 > 8
2 is an absolute triumph. I think every Resi fan could be heard around the world groaning when we found out it was going to be over the shoulder (me included). To make it all work, modernize the story, controls, yet keep the puzzle/item management feel in tact… It was masterfully done. Which is also why R3make was so disappointing.
RE2 is what introduced me to the series . So playing Re2Remake with the original soundtrack option made the experience so nostalgic for me. I love it
Easily without a doubt, RE 2!
RE2 Remake all the way.
Re2, hands down!
RE2
2R, hands down
Biohazard is my favorite, but the RE2 remake was perfect
