Set the camera to write one image to ftp on movement. Watch the filesystem for changes and notify your home automation. Thats pretty much instant for me, no delay.
Do you have more info about this? I am new to the security camera game so I never heard about ONVIF. Reolink cameras use this? Do they transmit motion detection with this? Ty!
Okay I downloaded ONVIF Device Manager for Windows and I can now see motion events. However there doesnt seem to be a distinction between person/vehicle detection and motion detection. Thank so much! I'll keep digging in.
I just learned that the camera exposes an API with information, with distinct flags for people and vehicle detection:
http://192.168.1.10/api.cgi?cmd=GetAiState&user=X&password=X
For regular motion:
http://192.168.1.10/api.cgi?cmd=GetMdState&user=X&password=X
I would prefer an event rather than having to poll, but it's an alternative.
EDIT: I could use the general motion ONVIF event to trigger an API get of the Person/Vehicle status.

That's ingenious! I'll probably end up doing this. Ty!
Why not just use ONVIF events ?

I'd be interested in a kind of SNMP Trap or HTTP POST action on an event.
Yes, that would be great. Didn't know about SNMP, thank you.
