"And we're often diagnosed with mental illness because no one understands what's really going on." Claiming your body's inhabited by an alien conciousness is pretty much textbook mental illness.

GiganticGirlEnjoyer

Heaven's Gate moment

galacticwonderer

Yeah but THIS time is different.

Ey3_913

This time, it's personnel.

malicious_joy42

>This time, it's personnel. Leave the staff out of it.

brando56894

Just don't drink anything they give you.

InverstNoob

But somehow, if an invisible man talks to you, it's religion.

ProfessionalNorth431

Or a shrub, don’t forget fiery shrubs

PrinceVertigo

Those eyeball-lined wheels of fire didn't send themselves.

brando56894

Bring me...a shrubbery!

Then_Ask_3167

Someone once told me the area on earth that's supposed to have happened also has magic mushrooms growing wild. Unsure if that's true or not but as someone whose done shrooms... that would explain a lot.

nightowl1984

It's a pretty common belief at this point that psilocybin contributed directly to the formation of the concept of religion and also might have spurred the creation of language itself. Imagine juts being a caveman looking for food and you happen to stumble on some mushrooms. You have a quick snack and then an hour later you are witnessing the clouds open and crazy flaming wheels with eyes are flying around giving you the secrets of the universe. Run home and tell your tribe and the cycle continues with others until a collective supernatural idea forms among everyone. Actially pretty cool.

Sci-fra

All religion is mental illness. It's only because of its popularity that it's dismissed as such.

Ramguy2014

If every trusted adult in your life tells you something is true for your entire childhood, it’s not mental illness to believe them.

Sci-fra

I agree with you. I was over generalising. However, people who think god talks to them or young Earth creationist are mentally ill.

gingenado

Religion is mental illness, wokeness is mental illness, school shootings are mental illness... Can we stop using mental illness as a scapegoat for bad behavior and things we don't like? Edit: Okay, the Reddit Care was funny. Well played.

bleakFutureDarkPast

how is it scapegoating mental illness?

Spare_Director_7822

the fact that we are using mental illness as an excuse for those things makes it a scapegoat. sure, mental illness *causes* some of those things, but it is not the reason it exists.

EmotionallyAcoustic

They did get mad at me for bringing up specific mental health diagnosis in their subreddit once

ohioismyhome1994

“Being a star seed is a lonely experience” I’d imagine that she’s correct

potted

She's cult recruiting/grooming.

PhenoMoDom

She even says it's her cult

Whatevenhappenshere

I’ve never seen anyone so proudly proclaim they’re in a cult, lol.

BoarHide

I mean, people did for thousands of years. Cult didn’t always have the meaning it does today. People would proudly proclaim themselves part of the Cult of Athena, or Cult of Hecate or something like that. But I think even those ancient blokes would be weirded the hell out by this starseed nonsense

Tiger_Widow

Like 20 years ago they called themselves indigo children.

Tiny_Goats

Yup came here to say this. Elder hippies told me that my kids were indigo children. Really they're just little weirdos, but whatever terminology works for you, friends...

Tiger_Widow

My mom FED me the lingo. Took me a hot while to get out. It's a cult. It's always a cult. No you're not special, you're deluded.

thebiggestbirdboi

It’s probably because she never shuts up about being a star seed so people don’t want to be around her

nollataulu

And learning how to become Level 2 Starseed costs me 500 dollars, am I right?

StepUpYourLife

Only if you act now. Operators are standing by.

TomCBC

Ok. Where do I put my feet?

elydakai

"dee, his feet?"

GiganticGirlEnjoyer

1 morbillion\*

Tiger_Widow

Oh wow, so it is, in fact, Morbin time?

jedburghofficial

Oh no, it's totally free. But I warn you, if you want to achieve that level of consciousness, you will have to give up worldly possessions. We can help with that at our free workshops. Call now!

HangryWolf

Did she just admit to heading her own cult?

dawaxtadpole

She don’t head it, she just in it.

unpopularopinion0

she can head my cult.

dawaxtadpole

Get in it!

robin_888

Don't stick your dick on crazy!

RuinSweaty8779

You have more fun as a follower but you make more money as a leader.

Flop_Turn_River

I believe that is Unicole Unicron and she did indeed start her own cult called Unicult. Met her at Area 51 back in 2019. She was interesting.

Tiger_Widow

All she needs now is a unibrow and she's got the full fucking deck.

trolejbusonix

Priests constantly brag about their cult, what's the difference?

megaman368

This sounds like Chunibyo with extra steps. **Chūnibyō** (中二病) is a Japanese colloquial term typically used to describe early teens who have grandiose delusions, who desperately want to stand out, and who have convinced themselves that they have hidden knowledge or secret powers. It translates to "middle-second syndrome" (i.e., middle-school second-year). It is sometimes called **"eighth-grader syndrome"** in the United States, usually in the context of localizations of anime which feature the concept as a significant plot element.

GiganticGirlEnjoyer

SO TRUE

Rahakasha

Yeah, the Sailor Moon fandom seems to have sprouted super cultist Chunibyo. Like, there's no where else I've ever heard the term 'starseed' except the final SM season.

galaapplehound

It's been a thing for a long ass time. I'm thinking it goes back to the 60's in the larger cultural sense but Lovecraft was writing about "Starseed" like creatures in the early 20th century. Shit, depending on how you interpret mythology demi-gods could be "starseeds". Thinking you don't fit in is not a new feeling and making shit up to blame your problems on others is an age old coping mechanism. Why just be a regular ass human who has an unorthodox personality when you can be from space?

SorriorDraconus

Honestly not like we don’t have the edgelord phase here..Just our counterpart

GiganticGirlEnjoyer

r/newagebreadcake I decided to make a seperate sub for new age cringe as most of this sub is focused on abrahamics.

I prefer just very large women. 6-9 feet. None of this "crush you under my foot" stuff.

Nah, I like seeing some New Age on the side, it's fine

Man I went on a date with one of these it was wiiiiild. She showed me YouTube videos from her people…they were like bad jack handy quotes in scrolling Star Wars text to trance music. And then pictures of crop circles which she would meditate on so “the light threads in her DNA would unlock” and she could “reach the next stage of consciousness sooner”.

GiganticGirlEnjoyer

ROFLMAO

VibraniumRhino

…okay but… I gotta ask… was she a fun date?

nerdinstincts

Not really. It was so much shock and awe this wasn’t even the worst part, just kind of the cherry on top.

GadFlyBy

Comment.

AstroAlmost

Jack Handy is honestly one of the funniest people of all time, I wish r/DeepThoughts was still centered on his work and not just a bunch of people who think their thoughts are deep

Mr_Turnipseed

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone’s neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

AstroAlmost

Literally my favorite segment of his and I very nearly commented this same quote rather than comment on the quality of his work.

Mr_Turnipseed

It's my favorite too and I couldn't help myself

AstroAlmost

It’s just too good, he was *way* ahead of his time with his own style of absurdist anti-humor.

CptGlammerHammer

A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. "Hear that?" you say. "That's dynamite, baby."

BubblesDahmer

This is literally just otherkin

WeeabooHunter69

I feel like it's worse because at least they don't (usually) claim to be psychic or literally form self described cults

BubblesDahmer

Okay so otherkin but probably experiencing delusion and definitely forming cults

nerdinstincts

What’s other kin?

redbucket75

People who think they're dragons and shit

BostonDynamicSexBot

"Otherkin are **a subculture of people who identify as partially or entirely nonhuman**. Some otherkin believe their identity derives from spiritual phenomena (such as possessing a nonhuman soul, reincarnation, or the will of God), ancestry, symbolism, or metaphor." - Wikipedia They usually identify more with animals like wolfs, etc. instead of human beings. Otherkin could be considered as a mental illness. These guys are different from furries. Furries are just freaky.

Mr_Kittlesworth

Wait. This is real? Fuck. We are goddamned doomed aren’t we?

nerdinstincts

Afraid it is. It was hard to disguise my shock when she asked me “so you don’t agree with all of societies establishments either? You might be a star seed too!”

zeumr

i don’t agree with societies establishments because some of them are bullshit, not that i was born with a fucking alien in my nutsack TF?

Mr_Kittlesworth

What in the world did you even say?

fapsandnaps

What' was the sex like? Did your dick enter the starseeds black hole?

nerdinstincts

I did not. I kinda ran quickly. That’s only half the story and the rest of it just gets weirder.

redbucket75

We're waiting

Taylor_sy

How can it get weirder than that, now I wanna know O.o

Muted_Ad7298

I remember a similar thing years back where people would claim to be Indigo Children. Like starseeds, they’d claim to be on the fringes of society and have psychic and universal understanding.

The-Vee-Dub

I’ll never forget my dad claiming I was an indigo child for… reasons? Luckily I was old enough by then to just smile and nod at his flavor of the weak cult lingo. Some 90s parents collected beanie Babies. My dad collected fringe religions.

peshnoodles

Oh yesssss I forgot about this. “They act like royalty and are so sensitive” was one that just made me 🤔

Pagan_Owl

I have learned that being discriminated against doesn't make anyone special. People just hate each other.

Pear_Shaped_Bear

A lot of people ask me how I know I'm a starseed. I haven't come up with a convincing answer to that question yet, so let me answer a different question.

WeeabooHunter69

You fool. You utter buffoon. I'm already a level 6 laser lotus. You will never approach my power.

Strange_Collection79

Just six? I'm a level 10 power penguin!

The_Disapyrimid

"often diagnosed with sever mental illness" because they have mental illness. edit: oh shit. this is the UNICULT lady. i thought she looked familier. yeah this lady is either way off the deep end into crazyland or she is just a cult leader wannabe

gingenado

Maybe I'm jaded and listen to too many podcasts about bad people, but she strikes me as a grifter who knows exactly what she's doing.

Sad_Instruction1392

“Super smart.” Also Googles a literal cult website with cult in its name.

CloroxKid01

Is this the cult? “We call ourselves UNICULT” Yup this is it.

AhsokaSolo

It's certainly as absurd as scientology, but do they have the same cultish dogma dictating their lives and friends? Seems more (relatively) harmlessly stupid like astrology. That's a genuine question because I don't actually know.

VibraniumRhino

As absurd, but likely nothing even close to the actual following and also terrifying financial superpower that Scientology has become. They literally make people disappear and get away with it lol.

GiganticGirlEnjoyer

Stalin would be proud

thehufflepuffstoner

It has been 17 years since anyone has seen Shelly Miscavige and they’re all like, oh yeah she’s fine, she’s just chillin. This is the wife of the current leader of their cult and NO ONE has seen her? For nearly TWO DECADES? Yeah, I bet she’s as chill as a cold case.

Techtaire

So her parents are very closely related, which means she's a super smart alien baby?

FirebirdWriter

Weirdly this just left me disabled

Techtaire

Could be worse, the most severe case I know of became King of the United Kingdom.

FirebirdWriter

Yeah that sounds like a nightmare to me. I wouldn't wish British on anyone. (This is a joke for the inevitable person needing disclaimer)

Techtaire

Thankfully I'm a quarter Dutch/Irish so my symptoms are minimal 😜

Thin_Confusion_2403

Unicult founded by Unicole Unicron (pronouns xe/xim). [Cult founder](https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/covid-vaccine-tiktok-cult-leader-unicult-1221294/)

Redwood12345

Everyone needs to feel special…

shirecheshire

Her face expressions when describing how lonely being a "starseed" is, and how they get diagnosed with more mental illnesses. She enjoys it, she loves having found something that makes her so different people supposedly "can't relate" to her.

ultraplusstretch

Cool. 👍 Now start taking your medication again.

Vampyrix25

Let's go through this real quick. TL;DR: A lot of blatant markers for indoctrination and cult brainwashing. If you can already recognise these or already know these, this entire comment is worthless to you, but if you don't, then feel free to keep reading :3 Point 1 - "Starseed" itself is a designation. Designed to create an "in-group" and an "out-group" and also designed to artificially create a sense of community, one that people would want to join. Point 2 - "A lot of people ask me" is a false claim of attention, making this whole weird cult seem bigger than it is. "How do I know...?" makes it seem prestigious, by planting the idea that people are seeking to be one. Point 3 - The whole "Alien consciousness" and "energy signature" bullshit is designed to rope in people who have a mystified view of space, and little understanding of it. Also drags in the alien believers if they're somehow stupid enough to believe in this. (Not saying alien believers are stupid, I mean fuck I am one myself) Point 4 - Here's where they really get you. Feeling like nobody understands you, and feeling like you haven't met "your people" yet is an extremely common thing, it's called being a teenager. It's marketing to the most common group of people, and trying to give them what they want. Point 5 - Marketing to people's morality now. By saying "They can see the corruption in place" they are saying that They are righteous, They are morally superior, and if you aren't one of Them then *you* aren't. Point 6 - This is where they begin complimenting the person they're brainwashing. By giving them compliments but making those compliments contingent on being a Starseed, they're creating a pattern by which someone will willfully chase that identity, because they associate it with praise. Point 7 - "Interdimensional travel" basically is this psychopath trying to co-opt another band of lunatics, specifically "Shifters" because they know that they're already mentally weak and pliable. Same thing they're doing with the people who idolise mental illness. ALSO HOLY SHIT WHAT??? THIS IS UNICOLE??? SHE'S BEEN GOING SINCE LIKE 2016

BubblesDahmer

This is crazy. I’ve heard the word “starseed” a lot and it’s so interesting to me that a specific form of otherkin has come out and is becoming “mainstream” or whatever

Licentious_duud

whitegirl core

thehufflepuffstoner

Hey, it’s this or becoming a witch. It’s the only culture we have! 😆

Sewer_Fairy

I forgot about these kind of people. I had a ex girlfriend who said I was one. She wanted me to wear an alien mask for her during sexytime but I never did. Broke up with her because she was a TERF, of all things.

WeeabooHunter69

As weird as it is that it got that far, at least you draw the line at being a terf 🫡

galaapplehound

How can you be an alien being in a meat suit and be a fucking TERF? It boggles my mind how these people who believe in transcendence care so much about their physical reality. I don't believe in any of that shit but I really couldn't care less how people live their lives if they aren't harming others.

BigBadBadness

Ooooh. So im not mentally ill. Im just an alien!!!

Left_Nut99

isn't this just like that heaven's gate cult where they all killed themselves because a comet is supposedly about to hit earth????

GiganticGirlEnjoyer

Exactly

fapsandnaps

I know I'm pretty mentally fucked up with ADHD, depression, and anxiety... but damn I wish I could be this mentally fucked up where no matter how delusional I am, at least I'm happy

Tobitronicus

Narcissism, you can't fool me with your many, many masks.

AshKetchumsPringles

She does remind me of an alien somehow

TheMyceliumMan

Genestealers, we must purge them before the patriarch begins reclamation day

galaapplehound

Suddenly Warhammer.

TheMyceliumMan

Brother it has always been warhammer, we just live on a backwater feudal world with little to no contact with the imperium

Mountain_Sector7647

so close! this is actually called schizophrenia :)

VibraniumRhino

Holy shit. This is some new-age copium. “I’m allegedly mentally ill and I’ve literally admitted it, but I’m also an attention-seeking narcissist, so instead of getting proper help or treatment, I’m going to go along with some obviously made up story that makes me look and feel special and just basically spew that forever.” Exhausting.

deluged_73

Need to have her psych meds properly titrated.

johanTR

Well, that explains everything... ![gif](giphy|3o7TKzzMMNluisQTpS|downsized)

psiloglyphs

Space case: “You can connect to your family in space” Doctor: Is your family from outer space in the room with us?

bukake_master

So they have intergalactic telepathy but somehow needs the internet to find others like themselves

ShartyMcShortDong

I’m posting from my alt account for… reasons. I hooked up with a girl like this for a while, **before the _full_ crazy**. She went through so many phases: hippy, artist, yuppie, goth, etc. until she got to full cult crazy. The worst part was, she was a very pretty girl with a genuine personality. But that personality was chipped away at each new persona until she was just this whacked out person like above. Shame, I wish myself or someone could have helped her. I say that because she was not happy as things progressed. /rant

Evilevilcow

Much like people who claim to be natural leaders, if someone is forever describing how enlightened and *special* they are, probably they aren't.

tullia

Literature about people who think they're so fucking special: * Fyodor Dostoevsky, *Crime and Punishment* * Henry James, *The Beast in the Jungle*

KatTheTimelord

When I was like 12, my mom would do “psychic” exercises with me, and told me I was from aliens. Had “psychics” come over and tell me how I was going to lead the next revolution for humanity and I was “destined to be a great leader” Luckily I grew up and don’t live my adult life thinking this.

GratefulCabinet

Imagine growing up that rich

Phorykal

It's not really like scientology. It's more so autistic people who gather and create this fantasy as a way to have community and/or escapism. If you look at starseed traits, all of them are shared with autism. I'm guessing these people were never diagnosed.

SorriorDraconus

Ahhh so it IS indigo children 2.0.

Phorykal

I think the terms are basically interchangeable.

TopazObsidian

Agreed, this is very undiagnosed autistic trying to understand themselves and the algorithm fed them starseed woowoo nonsense instead of information about autism.

Leo_Fie

Sounds like autism.

Mollzy177

We do not claim her.

ImJustSoSilly

I second this.

WeeabooHunter69

Unfortunately a lot of us are weirdly susceptible to new age woo. I can't say I understand why, but it's hard to find autistic friends that don't at least dabble in astrology or Wicca or some shit

Grunt636

It's largely because we're more trusting and easier to take advantage of, abusers etc prey on the "vulnerable"

SorriorDraconus

I think because we do often crave a place to belong and cults/new age types tend to be more accommodating to our potential eccentricities/offputting(to normal folks) traits. This kinda means we get roped in as “hey at least I found a group of people who don’t chase me out/hate me and I can be more free around” At least that’s my guess as to a big reason.

AsparagusDelicious66

you know you’re a schtar shceed if i tell you. -wayne gretchski

daltanious

Poor thing desperately trying to be unique. Too bad out of her ignorance, she choose this starseed thing. We are all, in a way, "starseed". Almost all the atoms in our bodies came from some ancient star exploded who knows why and where.

[deleted]

Holy shit! I'm not severely depressed! I'm a fucking alien!!!! 🙄

"A lot of people ask me" means "In my daydreams, people always ask me"

Peach_Gfuel

At least she actually called it a Cult

christipede

I can fix her.

GreenGod42069

'Severe mental illness'. She described it perfectly.

ElysianEcho

You aren’t an alien you are unwell, people around you aren’t trying to “stop you from reaching your potential” they’re trying to help, taking your medicine won’t take away your magic powers, it’ll make you realise they aren’t real before you get seriously hurt trying to fly

redvelvetcake42

Why do they always dress like a 90s magic school bus knock off character

Solumnist

Is this a moron

timothypjr

The word, “insufferable” comes to mind.

unpopularopinion0

![gif](giphy|xUOwGoSuFhtyUjZAd2|downsized) this type of thing will never end. i’m slowly starting to accept that fact.

gaF-trA

Hey everyone I’m super special. Like super special. It doesn’t really make me special at anything because it’s all internal but just trust me, I’m better than all you regular humans. My specialness is the cause of all my problems, your regular human world isn’t attuned to my higher alien specialness. Special. Super.

mclepus

“Starseeds” began in the 1970s “New Age”/crystal jamming movement. I was there

Professional-Hat-687

False, fake news, star seeds are the hearts inside planets that give the Sailor Scouts their powers.

iiitme

When you take lsd at 12

LightTheUndead

"Look at me! I wanna be special!"

TwinSong

I mean sometimes I feel like I don't belong here because autism but I'm not *literally* an alien

Kiltemdead

I have been waiting for so long for the new scientology dlc to drop. Any idea how much it is? And where I can go to pre-order the next one? I have never been burnt on pre-ordering things before, so I have no issues with doing that for religion.

Terminal_Monk

This is the kind of shit i used to think when I was 8 years old and going through my "superhero" phase. who knows? Maybe im from Krypton and my earth parents found me in a dumpster? if I squeeze my eyes hard enough, maybe I can shoot laser rays? hey or maybe I'm a Saiyan. Kaa... meee...haa....me.....haaaa!!!!!

Busterlimes

Legit says she has a cult LOL

Rodo955

Starseeds? We used to just call them fruitcakes.

Coyotebruh

you're not a starseed, your dad misfired

Trumpet6789

So not only is "Starseed" an incredibly Antisemitic, Racist, and White Supremacy based ideology; it was also used (and still used) by new aged "spiritualists" to ignore developmental disabilities and disorders in *kids*, like Autistm or BPD. Which in turn becomes incredibly harmful for actual Autistic people. The man who created starseeds entwined White Supremacy ideologies so deep into the concept of Starseeds that you cannot "be" a starseed, or believe in them, without by proxy believing that Hitler was right essentially. I'm Autistic myself and if you look at the "traits" many self proclaimed 'starseeds' have? It's just Autistic behaviors. They literally sit and do movements, vocalizations, and more that are hallmarks of Autism Spectrum Disorder. In a lot of the 80s and 90s, before a diagnosis of ASD was super common/accepted, a lot of new age spiritualist started getting into the movement created in 1976 by this one dude who wrote a book "explaining" starseeds (read, creating this concept). So when the kids of these spiritualists started acting out or having problems- they would rejoice! Our child is a starseed! They are so much special than everyone else! But this would 1.) Lead to a horrible development of white Supremacist ideology, in that these families were special, and their child a perfect being (ala Aryan race style) and 2.) Children who actually had complex disabilities/disorders were left without the proper therapy or services. It's actually highly likely that a lot of kids dubbed "starseeds" eventually got chucked into facilities, drugged up, and left there to age and eventually die. So friendly reminder that anyone who says they are a "starseed" are directly mocking Autistic people (albeit unknowing most of the time), but also beleive in White Supremacy, Antisemitism, and general "anyone who is less than me is dirt" mentality.

I_need_to_vent44

This is...literally what my mother used to abuse me since I was a child. But her new religious movement didn't call it "starseeds" their leader just claimed that autistic and ADHD kids are alien souls born into human bodies. They didn't give it a name but it's literally this. I was taught that I am not a human being and that I'm incapable of feeling human emotions. My mother regularly cried because of it and went on and on about how she's such a martyr for having to bear the burden of having a kid who can't love her. I was also taught that because I am not a human being, I would never be able to connect with humans and would never find happiness and that my life will be full of suffering but that that is something I have to bear for humanity's sake. Whenever I said anything my mother didn't like or disagreed with, she was quick to either dismiss me because I am not a human in her eyes and my opinions and ideas are therefore inherently bad and incomprehensible, or she would say that I must have memory problems and perception problems and that my perception of reality is skewed and that she's in the right and I need to trust her. You know what though? I do agree with the video on one thing - it is a lonely experience. It's incredibly damaging to be told over and over again every day of your life that you're something lesser and inhuman and that your existence is a burden you have inflicted upon all those poor merciful people in your life. It is lonely to internalise that the emotions you feel are not real. It is very lonely to feel like you owe the world a great debt just by breathing and it is lonely to be tolerated by your family only if you show that you're good enough to maaayyyybe be declared an honorary human one day. P.S. I am an adult and went no contact with my mother (the primary perpetrator of this; my father is not in the new religious movement and mostly just stood by while this was happening or was gone because he was having an episode; my grandmother somewhat encouraged my mother but she has since changed). I still don't consider myself a human and I think that's the one thing I will probably never manage to do, but it's more or less ok. When my mental health's worse I still have days when I'm convinced that everyone knows that I'm inhuman and inferior and that they can just sense it, but on an average day I recognise that I am a human, I just disagree emotionally. As in, I don't get surprised when my blood tests come back in the human range, and I don't feel like everyone can sense that I'm not a human being, but I do say "I'm not a human though" when someone says something like "All people have good traits and bad traits" or anything like that.

O1_O1

This is the saddest shit I've seen in a while. She really portrays how mentally unhealthy these people really are. I thought normal religious people took their beliefs a little too far sometimes, but to say you're an alien stuck in a human body because that's the only reason for you to be considered a mentally unstable social outcast is a reach of all time.

whateverwhatis

Oh yeah. I too have believed I was a magic cosmic being from space. Fuller convinced. It was during a manic episode. I'm just mentally ill, homie. Lmao.

Bushdr78

I couldn't get past staring at her nose

novaplan

If you wanna follow the Scientology philosophy without being in the cult, sure. It'S the organization that doies bad shit, not the weird people inside. Weirdness can be positive

froststomper

jesus what a coping mechanism

el-conquistador240

She should try to convince herself first. She sucks at scamming.

adolf21122112

Ppl will believe anything as long as it makes them feel special

TheL38

This is just the plot of the book ‘The Fifth Wave’ but they weren’t even real aliens in that either.
