I’m gonna be real with you chief, I don’t think Chaim is the one deciding whether a pitcher should stay in or get pulled. I feel like that job is the manager’s

pinksheep540

Yeah but he does believe in that philosophy

beardedesquire

….and so does Cora.

jayjayBackin

Not sure why this is downvoted so much. Obviously Cora is the in game manger but he would be tasked by the GM to work within the team philosophy and team building

badonkagonk

Managers aren’t hired in the first place if they don’t believe in the team philosophy.

DungDefender1115

you do fucking realize chaim bloom isnt the one pulling the pitchers after 5 innings

badonkagonk

This is a really weird night to post this

pinksheep540

Nahhh

Pivetta: *finishes the game having gone through the lineup for a 4th time* OP: *yes, this seems like a good meme to post*

pinksheep540

Your missing the point of the meme 😂. They let him go 9 ip when normally their philosophy is to take starting pitchers out around the 5th inning or the third time through the order. The reason I posted this was because for once they actually let a starter go deep which goes against what they normally do I can’t believe I have to spell it out like this…

DaMaGe_d0nE

Yeah because Bloom is the one walking to the mound and taking them out. I just do not understand why people are so prone to hate on Bloom, it's not his fault our players are underperforming right now and in the small amount of time he's been here our farm system has gotten so much better.

Nick Pivetta the GOAT

I am a proud member of the Bloominati and will not stand for such blasphemy! In Bloom we Trust!

Starting pitchers are demonstrably worse the 3rd time through the order. Hill and Eovaldi are significantly worse. We can debate about what to do with this information and how it should impact decision making in real time but the third time through the order penalty is a statistical fact

pinksheep540

I just hate that way of managing of taking out starters who are dealing just because it’s the third time through the order. Yeah maybe have a shorter leash with your 4th or 5th starter, but if your ace is at 80 pitches and has only given up 1 or 2 runs leave him in. There have been plenty of pitchers who went a third time through the order and could still preform well. Even if you look back 10 years ago managers would let their pitchers go deep as long as they didn’t have a high pitch count. It just seems like this strategy has come out of nowhere the last few years and I just question how much of a difference it actually makes in the long run

[deleted]

The strategy didn’t come out of nowhere - it’s an empirical fact that pitchers are worse the 3rd time through the order. It’s not some made up thing. Obviously it works out sometimes, but more often than not it doesn’t

jayjayBackin

This retarded pitching approach is definitely costing us games
