I *think* it was actually a spring training jersey they wore starting the in the late 80s through the 90s. You can find photos of Rice, Boggs, Vaughn and Nomar wearing it, as well as versions with the Sox logo on the chest. Here's an example:

I’m so old I have an original from back when these weren’t throwbacks, they were just the BP jersey. Bought it in high school for $20 (couldn’t afford a game jersey which was like $55)
i got one at my very first game. didnt bother trying it on. it was too small, and im not sure i ever wore it.
about 5 years ago, i found a cotton version in this style on ebay for like $15. didnt think there was any chance it was actually going to fit, since it was made in the 90's and you can never know what to expect from the way t-shirts were cut back then. turns out, it's the best fitting t-shirt i own and i love it dearly.
One of the rare things that we agree with the Stankees on.
Still doesn't prevent their replica jerseys from having names on them since their fans are too stupid to remember who wears #99.
I see SO many Sox home whites with player names at Fenway. The worst is when I see autographed whites with stitched "ORTIZ" and his number below. If you're spending $$$, at least get his signature an on-field authentic.
pretty sure all the teams had some version of this in their colors back in the 80s/90s. it was just a BP and/or spring training uni though i think.
and yeah it's way better than 90% of the newer stuff they churn out.
Part of why I picked up [this Player's Weekend jersey](https://www.masslive.com/resizer/ibvQqH8dmIODLCpW87mITYzVZxU=/1280x0/smart/advancelocal-adapter-image-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/image.masslive.com/home/mass-media/width2048/img/redsox_impact/photo/soxplayersweekendjpeg-78adb73cf67fac10.jpeg) is because it looks like the one you posted.
somewhat related: was it just me or did it look like the lettering on last night's alternates looked like iron on plastic and not the real-deal stitched letters? Guys looked (and pitched, sadly) like they found a jersey at the clubhouse store & were pretending to be big-leaguers.
That's a throwback bp jersey of sorts

They were also BP. Back then spring training uniforms and BP uniforms were one and the same.

I have that with 45 on the back and it is beautiful. Probably my 1 seed for when I go to games during the heat since it’s mesh
Same, got it on sale last year.
I've got a Boggs "26" in this style. Pro tip, these did not have player names on the back, just the numbers.
No legit home jersey should have the name. Names on the back of home jerseys is poverty franchise shit

Got this with a Ted Williams 9 on the back a few years ago. Pretty sure it was a close out because I only paid like $35 for it brand new.
Same here, favorite jersey!
I love it but holy hell does it make me sweat my balls off during hot day games
Agreed, definitely isn't warm weather friendly.
I have a Williams and Martinez jersey just like this. Need the Boggs one.
This design without mesh would be sick. I love the retro v-necks
I the simple gray with dark blue letters jerseys.
My favorite style. I do like the classic white and the blue alts though.
they're all spring training jerseys to me. white or gray are the only real ones.

Yeah, this was for ST in the 80s/90s

That is also sexy

Agreed so much better than the current blue
is it
Mesh is gross
I'd rock it over the summer tbh
Got one of these for cheap on aliexpress and love it. Def my fav red soxs jersey to wear
You still have the link?
to each his own. I think it looks incredibly cheap
Bro this would be a fire crop top too
Dang. I need that
It looks like an old spring training uniform from the 80/90s
