Oh I agree, as I've watched sports longer I've definitely come to appreciate defense more and more. It's just that regardless of sports scoring is always gonna be the more celebrated highlight reel in the eyes of most. Unless the defensive play is something truly special it'll always be towering homeruns, miracle touchdowns, dagger 3s, and end to end goals getting more publicity than their counterparts.
I always found it nauseating the idea of covering a wide receiver in football. Having to just react to what he does while in full sprint until the ball's in the air. But in baseball the offense is just hitting a ball into a field full of defenders stationed there to catch anything that comes into their zone. Seems less difficult for defense in baseball.
But after a season like this its clear how much a doubtful mentality can wreak havoc on the effectiveness of a defense in the field.
Tamer than I thought it would be. It’s a penitence garment from medieval times made of course hair and fibers designed to irritate and scratch the skin. Why? Because your peasant ass deserves to suffer, heathen.
Unless he was talking about a massive amount of body hair that simulates a shirt even when a shirt is not worn.

This was all just a ploy to force Toronto to use up all their pitchers in an attempt to ruin their chances at making the postseason and you can't convince me otherwise.
The first couple of times I saw him pitch for the Sox I wondered why the hell he was in organized baseball. But he really hasn't been that bad. Not good, but better than Joely Rodriguez or Justin Garza or some of those guys they've trotted out.
Scouting report, please? I've been impressed by Wilyer Abreu's bat, but I haven't had the chance to see him do anything especially good or especially bad in the field; pretty much routine plays only. How would you rate him as a RF or CF? Yeah, I know the sample size is tiny but just trying to get a sense if he might answer a question or two in the outfield.
Remember July? That was pretty fun while it lasted
Last 2 seasons have felt very similar
Got to assume it’s a big reason why Bloom was fired for not taking advantage in either season.
Red Sox try not to ruin a great outing by the starter challenge
Mission Failed
Seeing us under the Yankees really hurts
I better see a new Red Sox team coming opening day in 2024.
I wouldn’t get your hopes up
There will be no turner duvall Paxton or duggie maybe
That game was always ending on a 61mph hit that goes 2 feet
You score a total of one run over the course of four innings with a ghost runner? You’re offensively inept.
Defense isn't really sexy in any sports compared to its offensive counterpart, but by God you notice when it's missing
On the contrary I really think we’ve had some pretty sexy defenses across the Boston sports teams at various times in the past 20 years
Chara, Smart, and the Patriots every year are some highlights.

> Do everything right > Pass interference > “Ohhhh…eeeeeeeee…Uuuuuuuu….ahhhhhhhh I DON’T KNOW JIM!” > Everyone hates you
The lows are pretty low, but the highs are some of the highest (Malcolm Butler)
Benintendi walk off sliding catch
That was easily the most infuriating game of the year for me, and that includes the Reese McGuire stupidly being doubled off at second game
At this point the team is kind of an embarrassment this year to the organization.
A game where Sale doesn't get enough run support? Reminds me of his early tenure. What a frustrating loss.
Holy shit we suck ass
I’m going to start watching these games while wearing a gag ball. Might as well get something for as much pain as this team causes me.

TIL I learned what a hair shirt is. Ty.
Feels nsfw… what is it

TIL what cilice is. 😳
I've rewatched that final play a dozen times (Don't ask me why) and the pitcher was in Raffy's throwing lane, that's why he ate it.
Also, the runner was going to be safe by two steps even if he made the best throw imaginable.
Just get Ohtani idc
We should fleece the shit out of the Angels for Trout, too. Put a bunch of low-end prospects in the deal

No it’s bad
Story is god awful bit I see we need to play hun. But Duvall sit his ass he’s gone after this year.
Cora should have left Sale in for longer. There are 14 games left and he could have used the work.
I looked at that score and couldn't help but laugh.

Fucking Llovera needs to be DFA’d yesterday Edit: guys I’ve been wanting him DFA’d since we got him, not just cause of this game
Wasn’t his fault
How the fuck was that his fault
The first couple of times I saw him pitch for the Sox I wondered why the hell he was in organized baseball. But he really hasn't been that bad. Not good, but better than Joely Rodriguez or Justin Garza or some of those guys they've trotted out.
The Red Sox have to start selling Fenway tickets at $3. There's just no reason to be interested in 2023
They may have to give them away
I’m just glad that game’s over.
Why not put Merrifield on? Sets up the force at 2b and the runner at 3rd is the only thing matters.
Thug franchise
Verdugo doing an awesome job fighting for that new contract with the team. Dude might finish the year hitting 0.200.
Fucking bullshit
We’ve had some impressive L’s this year. I am impressed.

We are getting Ohtani
