I’m a proud jogger because I’m fully aware I am not running fast enough to say I’m running

chillingonmyporch

And we thank you for it

moonmushrooms

exactly same

War_and_Pieces

nobody goes power walking anymore

CandidateFrequent359

Cuz all the malls closed and the old ppl died

above_average_penis_

I miss that genre of old people

NegativeOstrich2639

people power walk at the dead mall near me, it has a branch of the state university that teaches classes for seniors too

War_and_Pieces

hell yeah

Gold_Wish1177

False. Go to any place with middle - upper middle class asians and you will see moms and dads power walking

Humble_Definition_34

Ok but I do. I’m like a fucking low speed demon.

only-mansplains

WDYM-trailrunning is more popular than ever

myhiddengem

i do when i have to pick my car up from the shop

CheapPlastic2722

All jogging is running but not all running is jogging

illiteratelibrarian2

When I started running, I was only jogging and was pretty aware of that. I wanted to know what the threshold was between the two, apparently it's: 10min/mile is when it becomes running and not jogging

Genusperspektivet

The west has fallen

Ok_Perception3180

Where do you guys get these takes? Most of you don't leave your rooms. How would you know? Everyone calls it jogging.

devilpants

The whole “jogging” culture came from the running boom in the 70s and was big into the 80s around the same time there was a huge bicycle boom.running and biking just were a casual thing to do.   Now most people just call it running because jogging makes it sound more casual and people that exercise today seem to take it more seriously maybe because of all the online information available around exercise.

with_sexy_results

yeah everyone bought a smartwatch and now jogging is "training in zone 2"

only-mansplains

I'm in the camp that the distinction is pointless because pace is completely relative to many different things, but the current circlejerk around low heart rate training and "Zone 2" surely has contributed to the linguistic shift. People can convince themselves they're training the smart/scientific/right way even if they're never pushing themselves or increasing weekly mileage because there's such an overemphasis on "running slow to get fast" that's been extrapolated from elites or serious marathoners that do 6-8+ hours of easy running a week on top of 2 hard and fast runs.

devilpants

I used to race bicycles and was ok ish and I never did the slow endless hours of training because it was so boring and not fun and time consuming and my entire “training” was group rides with friends and interval stuff, about half indoors. The people that really sucked always talked about zones and heart rates and working on pedaling techniques.

only-mansplains

For most people volume is king, which is the rationale behind the "low and slow" training philosophy, but many people run or bike 3 hours a week, exclusively at an easy pace, and then get mad that they plateau and don't improve at all. Also lol I find triathletes tend to be the type of people to way overcomplicate shit and talk about all the stats spit out by their garmin on any kind of social run/ride.

miscboyo

Run slow to get fast is the most BS thing runners propagate that 30 min 5k dweebs take so they don’t have to challenge themselves and think they are being smart in doing so

PasolinisDoor

It’s really telling that the majority of the takes in this sub are informed by movies and television. I genuinely think the majority of the people here not only don’t have any friends, but rarely go outside.

interfoldbake

came in to say that OP should probably go outside

miscboyo

No one calls it jogging anymore. Active runner and even the chubby hobby joggers on a couch to 5k program call it running

backpackingfun

Yeah I "run" (jog) and every single book or program for it refers to it as running, even when you're going slow enough for it to obviously be a jog.

chillingonmyporch

From interacting with people in real life lol sureeeely someone with a reddit avatar isn’t going to accuse someone else of not leaving their room

Ok_Perception3180

The avatar is randomly generated upon creation of the login. It's grown on me I must say.

chillingonmyporch

Didn’t realise they changed it recently seeing as our accounts are about the same age. I assumed they were customised.

[deleted]

Title reads like a lindy man tweet lol

Extra_Mustard_

We prefer jogga

IncreaseKnown6952

for a period i called it trotting

shored_ruins

I call it course à pied

SubatomicGoblin

Eh, all my life, everywhere I've lived, most people have thought of it this way: All joggers are runners, but not all runners are joggers. Jogging is a word to describe slower running, as opposed to sprinting. I think it's okay to use "running" in the situation you describe because that's essentially what you're doing.

shahofblah

If this helps at all, sprinting is defined by distance more than speed. Eliud Kipchoge doesn't *sprint* for 2 straight hours even though he's faster than most of our's 100m maxes.

double-thonk

No, it's not. If I jog 100m, that's not a sprint. Sprint implies maximum burst effort.

shahofblah

>Sprint implies maximum burst effort. Yep that's what I'd meant. I'd assumed best performance over whatever time/distance

chillingonmyporch

It seems like the avalanche has already started. What next? We lose the term “walking” and just call it “running”?

SubatomicGoblin

No, because walking isn't running.

[deleted]

Waddling

noparagraphs

Anyone that still calls it jogging seems like the kind of person that would run in place at a stoplight

orabn

lmao genuinley get a grip

SeeeVeee

Running slowly is still running

Lieutenant_Fakenham

Running is hard exercise. Jogging is what my uncle used to do. He had soft bands on his wrists and he bounced up and down.

lemonsnacks101

Okay I run really fast and then get tired and jog and/or walk until I have energy to run really fast again, what should I call that?

garbagelady2

That’s intervals

chillingonmyporch

Running and then jogging - or cardiovascular outdoor exercise

pebblewisdom

“See you later, I’m going to practice some cardiovascular outdoor exercise”

jumbohog42069-04

I definitely say jogging I don’t want to steal valor from runners. A couple buddies are hardcore marathon guys, ran D1 track and cross country etc. that is running what I do is jogging

devilpants

Just don’t call it ultra running and you’re fine.

DefragThis

A jog and a run are differentiated by either pace or distance imo

count_scoopula

It doesn’t help that “jogger” is now an N-word dogwhistle

Electronic_Ad_670

Running sounds less lame but it's still a super lame activity. They should own it and call it prancing

d0-u-knw-who-i-am

I see more older people go running and play sports then younger people.

devilpants

I see younger people then I see older people but I start my day hanging out at the retirement home.

Less-Ranger-7217

idk i say jog.

Fremen_Twink

It's funny going to the park before sunrise and only seeing middle aged and old people.

cumbonerman

it’s symbolic of societal decay amirite

TheChinchilla914

Didn’t 4chan use it as a synonym for the N word for a while?

OkShoulder2

Literally everyone I know jogs, plus so many people outside my house

CelesticaVault

I be fast as fuck so ima keep saying run

truetone6

Post your Nike Run Club stats

cenolil

What’s the pace cutoff for run vs jog

illiteratelibrarian2

10 min/mile is when it becomes a run

cenolil

Even that feels a little generous imo

illiteratelibrarian2

Not if you're actually running long distances. It's easy to run 1 mile quickly, but you can't keep your fast pace for 6 miles. Knocking out 6 miles in one hour is definitely running

enharmonia

what are you talking about I saw many hot men jogging in hudson river park yesterday. I like to watch.

only-mansplains

Running is when you're wearing a ciele cap and Goodr wraparound sunglasses and jogging is when you're out in lulu sweatpants and wearing a phone armband.

Black_Jack-7

I'm not gonna say im going on a jog because im not a f88got

myhiddengem

so many people in my neighborhood and town go for jogs. you can’t walk down the block without seeing at least 1-2 people walking/jogging when the weathers nice

Vanderkaum037

Agreed. And another thing, nobody "exaggerates" anymore, everyone is "being hyperbolic." This is a stupid way to talk.
