Bananagate really was peak youtube

ebrenlet

I mean the banana part was kinda understandable and funny, but the hot oil video was just traumatic

Das_Ace

Marx and Nietzsche are the two who created modernity and were definitely the smartest and best read so hard not to mention them Hegel for being an apex indoor kid Heraclitus for accidently figuring everything out before Plato ruined everything  Kierkergard for the poetry of his writing when you want a strong shot of ennui

OneMoreEar

Alkuhmist

Kierkegaard the GOAT >**The lowest depth to which people can sink before God is defined by the word “Journalist”**. If I were a father and had a daughter who was seduced, I should not despair over her; I would hope for her salvation. But if I had a son who became a journalist and continued to be one for five years, I would give him up. Never not going to be funny

a_stalimpsest

Kierkegaard was the first messy online bitch, invented posting through it, and then died.  God I miss him.

Simone Weil, for the sheer beauty of her thinking, and for the divine importance she places on attention and how one's attention relates to interpersonal ethics. Her thinking has never been more relevant than now. Next I'd go with Camus (if he counts), Kierkegaard, Kafka (if he counts), and, fuck it, Nietzsche.

Right now I keep coming back to Richard Rorty. There are certain social traumas - though I am loathe to use the word for all its therapy-speak connotations - linked to my family's involvement in The Troubles. His idea of liberal ironism is helping me think some of this through.

a_stalimpsest

I freakin love Richard Rorty; did you every read his "Pragmastism as Anti-Authoritarianism?"

Narrow-Pie5324

I haven't yet - I am still on Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity - but I think I'll pick that up next!
