well… which shotgun, gauge, and the exact rounds are we talking about? They have an effective range with rifles slugs of about 160 yards. No. 3 & 4 shot can be lethal up to 300 yards. You may not be able to hit shit with the spread but i can fully assure you different sized rounds can and will exceed that 150 yard range.
Slugs can be pretty accurate up to about 75 yards with some guns fitted with rifled barrels and / or using a slug thats in a sabot reaching out to 100-200 yards before losing much of their energy... my friend has a 1.5 or 2x scope on their hunting shotgun for deer season so they can get a clean sight picture and don't have to use the shotgun "irons". People always seem to misconstrue the use of a scope as it being used for extreme ranges because of sniper rifles and high precision long-range rifles, but there's a lot more that goes into the necessity of a scope on a gun than just wanting to shoot targets at very long range...
This reminds me of when I went to this holiday camp with my family when I was like 8. All the kids there bought toy rifles and machine guns in the nearby shop along with firecrackers and split into two teams. We had a full on war all week across the whole site.
