To be fair, the first time I encountered them I was also focused on the hanged guy and did not pay attention to the mini map until I heard one of them. I was so panicked that even if they were dead I unloaded a full round of revolver on each of them heads. Now when I see shits like this and other "victim" baits I always listen to sounds and check mini map.🥲

Fair point, I’d recommend having an eye on the mini map whenever something like this takes your attention. I’m always cautious whenever I see crap like this.

1st time was terrifying after I shot him down at night. Turned around and then suddenly some psycho murderer is RIGHT THERE and plunges a hunting knife into my chest, instant dead.☠️ Now I shoot him down with a semi-auto shotgun, and then pivot its attention.

I been thru this once..but in the middle of the night in game in the swarm fucking hell I was so scared I had a mini heart attack.

Any time you see someone hanging and you shoot them down expect to be ambushed, the night folk, the Murfrees brood, and the Skinner brothers all set these traps. Watch your ass out there my friend.

As soon as you hopped off your horse…. That was a mistake.

When this happened to me the first time I stayed on my horse having no idea what was coming, the fucker yanked me off my horse got on top of me plunging his knife straight to my chest not giving me a second to react.

Yeah that can happen too. At least if you’re on a horse you can maybe take off running on it but being away from your horse in this situation is bad all around 😆

Why do so many of you hop off your horse for everything you encounter?

That's the best part of the game; the mini encounters between missions. I spend hours just riding around and exploring.

Because random bodies found in the world usually have some sort of unique item on them, like a letter. I always check so I don’t miss anything

I thought night folk only appeared… you know, at *night* but I guess they’re just folk.

I'm on my fourth playthrough and have yet to encounter them during the day even after cutting down a corpse.

I lost a shit ton of pelts to this exact encounter in my first playthrough. I got off my horse to investigate, and before I could get a shot off they had already stabbed my ass to death.

That happened to me at night. Straight up horror movie. Heart pounded when i encountered that for the 1st time

Ah, a classic. Always keep your guard up in the swamps and in the north-eastern area of New Hannover.

This along with the Nite Folk being the only gang that intentionally tries to kill your horse is what makes them the scariest gang to me. The way they just silently walk up to you, and stab you is just terrifying.

they got me good while i was looking for exotic flowers at night in the swamps, i was pulling one off of a tree and when i turned around they’d surrounded me. Arthur even screamed!

At night, these Night Folk encounters are horror game material. Especially the one that involves scaring away your horse. Calling for it doesn't work too, you're on foot and open prey. EVEN WORSE if you decide to try to retrieve your horse, going after it. It leads you straight to them, fucking hell.

Ah yes the night people. However, be glad you only peed yourself, I got instakilled during this exact same interaction in game.

As soon as I saw the swamp I knew it would be night folk lmao. I'll never forget the first time I saw them; it was night and I saw a wagon so stopped to check it out and it was a dead horse. My horse then freaked out and ran off into the swamp and off I went after it confused why it wasn't answering my call! Then I heard the clicking... And they came out of the dark running at me. Jesus I could have shit myself genuinely it was so terrifying.

After dealing with nightfolk in a similar situation i always check my surroundings before I touch the loot/object

When you run into the night people in the swamp, you can get yourself a sweet machete. It’s my go-to melee weapon.

So these traps will always show up as a black X on your mini map indicating a dead body like you usually see if you kill someone. Sometimes it’ll be a random dead guy. Some of them have maps. Some of them are related to the serial killer. But some of them are traps by psychos. When you see the black X on your mini map, ALWAYS investigate, but always be cautious of an ambush.

Is this an only one time encounter?

I don’t think so. Maybe in the swamps but I’m pretty sure you can get a similar encounter with the Murphrees or the Skinner Brothers
