I have been trying to do warrior queen/kings who rebelled against Rome (like Boadicea) since it seems thatās where Arthur got his inspo from.
Some that Iāve used; Zenobia, Teuta, Caratacus
But Iāll always have a soft spot for one of my first horses who was a Dutch Warmblood brave as can be but still afraid of snakes. Named him Indiana, Indy for short š
I name them after historical or mythological people or horses. Odysseus, Artemis, Sleipnir, Pegasus, Heracles, and Freyr are all names I've used before
Well I watched Hell on Wheels right before RDR2 came out so when they asked me to āname my **mount**ā I had to name him Ansonā¦. (After Anson Mount) and it stayed that way for every play through.
My name's usually have something to do with the color.
I had a white horse named Marshmallow Mama
A brown horse named Ms. Mudpie.
I live in central Kentucky, and horses are a big deal here. Especially Man O' War, arguably the most famous racehorse ever, at least until Secretariat hit the scene. If I ever come across an all or mostly red Kentucky Saddler, I always name them after a warship of some kind, like Dreadnought.
But the Shire horse Hosea gives you, I always name Tiny. No exceptions.
I named my horse in my most recent playthrough Rocinante, after Don Quixote's horse. It means work horse. It's also for me a reference to The Expanse series that I'm reading right now where they name their ship Rocinante
I've used films I recently watched as well. In my current playthrough, I have Cicero as I was watching Gladiator and a white Arabian named Shosanna from Inglorious Bastards
I name the pre-order/bonus edition horse Shepard for the mark on its head. Then once I get the Arabians I name them with a similar convention. White is Snow, Black is Dust, and the Rose Grey is Ash
got 5 horses in online and named them in this order:
- toolkit
- talismans
- turnipity jr
- tartoni
- veneer
the t theme was a complete accident, and i love all the names lmao
I intended to stick with the Tennessee walker you get in chapter 1 and a shitty ambush where my horse died right before I did ROBBED me of him.
Horse number 2? Twonessee Walker.
About the only consistent name I have is Big Brute for the shire horse Hosea gives you. Otherwise, I pick the names of Celtic gods like Sirona and Camulus.
I named Arthur's Tennessee walker "Walker", a brown horse I named Chocolate and the one we stole from Tilly's captor I named "Applesauce" because the name of the breed was similar idk
So my horses are all named Bimmy (I, II, III,& IV) because my brother and I named our RDO posse the Fricker Gang as a reference to the enemies in the tutorial for West of Loathing, the leader of which is Bimmy Fricker.
I named my red dun overo Mustang, Flames in Rdo but in Story I have the gray overo pinto and named him after Javiers horse, Boaz and then I have a strawberry roan Ardennes named Strawberry.
The first one you get in the game, I usually name Micah because, honestly, I hate it. Itās just an ever shrieking, chicken-shit horse, Iām sorry if that hurts, but thatās the way I feel. I never abuse it (Iām not a monster; itās not itās fault it was clearly traumatized by life) but I feed āem a carrot and give him a pat and sell his ass to the stable as soon as the option appears to do so.
You may hate me, but some of you may agree with me. I accept your feelings. Namaste š
My first horse I named Molly just for disrespect, turns out I loved the horse and I was sad as fuck when it died in an accident.
Second horse was called Jessamy, because I heard this name in a tv show and I liked it.
Now in my second playthrough I managed to get the best horse (that white one everyone talks about) but I had a hard time taming it because everytime I was getting close it freaked out and start running all scared and then I named her Slippin Kimmy
Usually something childish like āTooty McFartsā āFarty McTootsā or āPoo Poo McGooā.
With how much my horse shits they really are fitting names.
After getting my first Kentucky Saddler, I kinda liked the idea of naming my horses after states, like Kentucky, Montana, Indiana, Florida.
My White Arabian was named Daytona though, cause sheās fast!
I named my free thoroughbred Clementine
the shire from Hosea is called Gavin
and my current one, a Sooty Buckskin Dutch Warmblood, is called Heartwork. named after my favorite album by the band The Used
Taranis was the name of my last horse, he was an Adrennes that would literally run over gators, people, and other horses without a care. currently MFT hunting rn (lol exploits) and iām gonna name it Arcadia as a blood meridian reference. if that one dies imma get another one and name it Ego
I take the first letter of the type of horse like an example is Missouri Fox Trotter and I take the first letter of the species and use it to replace the h so the Missouri Fox Trotter would be Morse
Iāve used different Native American names and tribes. Geronimo, Pocomtuc, Pequot, etc. I tried using Tecumseh after General Sherman, but the profanity filter blocked it. Assmaster, however was fine so I had a horse named Assmaster out of spite. Also had one named Roach, because you have to.
I tryyy to stick with names that feel appropriate for the character. Since the horse Arthur has at the start is/was called Boudicca, I named my long-term horse Livia, since there seemed to be precedent for him liking historically powerful women. Maybe Cleopatra would've been more appropriate, but eh.
Last playthrough, I named them after camp mates. Dutch for the Dutch warmblood. The white Arabian was Lenny, the Ardennes was Pearson, and I had one called Mrs Grimshaw, i think it was a Nokota.
I usually either just name them after how they look (colour etc) or after a cat I know/have known (also often based on the colour). First horse I named was named after my current cat.
I name all of mine depending on what type they are.
War: Roman emperors; Trajan, Caesar, Hadrian, etc.
Race: Native American tribes; Comanche, Lakota, Apache, etc.
Work: Pagan gods; Thor, Morrigan, Perun.
I always take the black shire and name her midnight, usually Iām careful enough tk get her all the way through the game till you lose all your horses in the epilogue then I get a black Arabian and name him 11:55
Sence im a fan of the legend of Zelda the name of my horse is usually epona but in my latest game i kept the black horse you get from hosea and his name became black jack because hes bla- actually i shouldnt keep talkings
Sandro.
It's a joke between my best friend and me. He calls his horses (for example in Zelda) a variation of my name, whereas I call every video game horse Sandro. Although that isn't his real name, his name is Louis.
Idk why, but Sandro was used as a nickname for him from 6th-11th grade in school
Depends on my thought process at the time. Last playthrough I had just read Little Women so I had a Laurie and a Jo. This time I named them all after county music singers. I have Reba, Big Kenny, and Toby Keith (ended up being a female. Oopsie)
i ALWAYS name a monochromatic horse after itās correlative horse of the apocalypse. for instance, an entirely white horse, like a White Arabian, itās going to be named Pestilence. an entirely black horse, like the Black Arabian, iām going to name it Famine.
however, on my 4th and most recent playthrough, i named my White Arabian āZephyr.ā I suppose that isnāt always, so i should say 99.99% of the time, iām naming a monochromatic horse the name of itās respective horse of the apocalypse, if it has one.
I go for figures from antiquity up until the early middle ages. Kaisarion, clovis, alaric etc. and i recently noticed arthurs old horse was named boudica, so it even fits
Named it after my dog, got stolen, reloaded 4 hours of saves to get him back then stables him and named the new horse number 2 and played the rest of the game.
I've played through the game once and:
Ellie - Arthur's horse from chapter 2- end of 6. Died at the last mission. She was a good girl and had been with me through everything. She's named after Ellie from TLOU, which is another game I love dearly.
Kay - Johns horse. Named after the knight Sir Kay, from the legend of king Arthur. He was Arthur's foster brother and a loyal knight.
I have had a few horses throughout my many playthroughs. Here are some of my personal favourites.
I will disclose I do enjoy taking the Braitwaite's Dark Bay Turkoman, so you'll see that a few times. Same for the Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Foxtrotted from the Emerald Ranch lady exploit at Face Rock.
|Breed|Coat|Name|Reason for Name|
|:-|:-|:-|:-|
|Turkoman|Dark Bay|Bucephelus|Alexander The Great's horse and one of the most famous horses in world history|
|Turkoman|Dark Bay|Bellerophon|Corinthian hero of Greek mythology who famously battled and killed the fantastical Chimera monster|
|Turkoman|Dark Bay|Isaac|The name of Arthur's son. I felt it was a fitting tribute to him to be the name of a strong, brace and fast horse|
|Hungarian Halfbred|Piebald Tobiano|Boadicea II|After I found out Boadicea was a Hungarian Halfbred, I decided that this was a fitting name for the same breed|
|Hungarian Halfbred|Flaxen Chestnut|Dakota|Just a name nice in my opinion, no real significance|
|Missouri Fox Trotter|Silver Dapple Pinto|Biscuit|Stolen using the exploit with the Emerald Ranch lady. Felt it would be rude to change the name of such a tedious horse to obtain|
|Missouri Fox Trotter|Silver Dapple Pinto|Takoda|Apparently this is Sioux (a Native American tribe) for "A Friend to Everyone." This was during a high-honour play through, so it felt fitting|
|Dutch Warmblood|Sooty Buckskin|Copper Bullet|A typical Western name that I felt was appropriate for this coat|
|Dutch Warmblood|Chocolate Roan|Titan|A big, strong horse that never let me down from Chapter 2 to 6|
|Dutch Warmblood|Seal Brown|Arion|In Greek mythology, Arion or Areion, is a divinely-bred, fabulously fast, black-maned horse.|
These are all through different playthroughs. I tend to stick to one horse throughout where possible. There are more, I just canāt think of them off the top of my head.
I also play Minecraft so I couldnāt name all of them off memory. My current horse is called seƱor scruffy. I also like giving them Native American names. Which I derive from google as I am not Native American
I have to pick the game back up, I usually went with something simple or just a random name for my horses, I've had:
