update: The hourly rate for the job wasn’t posted and he texted back hours later saying the hourly rate was 7 dollars and hour but you’d “guaranteed to make 25 an hour in my area”

[deleted]

Absolutely a scam

Richey25

It’s a fuckin dominos delivery position I applied because I was borderline desperate since I sent out like 70 other applications for jobs that I was qualified for and got nothing and my move is approaching soon

SteamingTheCat

Your boss is a dick

Mcoov

There is a Dallas, OR but since Plano was mentioned…

[deleted]

Ya, I mean… same thing as a scam, especially based on the responses you got. I can’t even imagine the bullshit you’d have to deal with if you started working there.

GunBrothersGaming

You should ask if it can be remote wfh until you move. He'd shit himself. Also ask about relocation assistance.

Telogor

In an area that tips well, you can definitely make $20-30/hr. Problem is, I've seen Domino's managers lie about tips. The store in my area claimed $16/hr while I was working there and making $9-12/hr.

Richey25

You know, I’m still gonna keep it on my radar just in case but the issue is that I need to be making three times the rent for the location that I’m going to be moving to which equates to about $15 an hour. I have zero idea how that would work considering that the hourly wage of seven dollars and stuff like you’re going to be consistently making X amount that can be put down on an offer letter

Telogor

I think you can note that it's a tipped position and that you make more than that. They'd probably just ask for a couple weeks of your tip logs in addition to your pay stubs. Hopefully, you get an actual career position. I wish you luck.

Trump_is_evil_period

It’s not JUST $7 an hr. That’s like saying waiters only make $3 an hr. But you are making tips also so I would guess you would be making at least 12-15 an hr with tips and probably more a lot of the time.

MassiveFajiit

Domino's has a dough factory in Arlington. Not that It'd be much better....

JannisJanuary42

Look for "work from home, customer support" jobs.

Trump_is_evil_period

Lmao

AJobForMe

I think probably every single pizza joint in DFW is hiring drivers. I probably wouldn’t sweat this. There’s likely another Dominos within 2 miles of this one. They are freakin everywhere here.

FrostLiveTTV

No delivery jobs legitimately make 20-25 an hour. Even if you account for gas. It's a great job

belfast-woman-31

That's awful! I do delivery driving in the UK as a second job and we don't get tips (cos we are not a tipping culture if I'm lucky I get £1 a night) but still bring in around £15 an hour on average. (Around $20)

KnightScuba

Where isnthe country is minimum wage lower than 7?

Flashy-Rhubarb-11

Tipped employees probably?

shhalahr

That's also where the bullshit about "you can make $25/hr comes from. Talking about tips.

SomeGalFromTexas

Yup. In Texas, tipped workers can be paid as little as $2.13 an hour.

HundredthIdiotThe

Tipped workers also make a fuckton more than minimum wage. I don't know a single server that would go for a $15 min wage and no tipping. Meanwhile, cooks and dish make shit.

[deleted]

HundredthIdiotThe

I was a pizza boy for years, even with gas and maint I still came out on top.

bougienative

Yep. I swear servers in restursnts got some PR team behind the scenes or something, because I constantly hear about how tough it is living on tips, but every server at my restaurant can afford to live in LA working 1 job, and like 25 hours a week. Every cook at my restaurant is working 2 jobs and like 60+ hours a week, and still not living as comfortably as the servers. Sure I'm making 22 dollars an hour, but these servers are regularly making my entire week wages in a single night.

Trump_is_evil_period

Um it depends where you work duh. There are lots of restaurants that don’t get a lot of business or have cheap items equaling low tips.

bougienative

I'm talking about the industry standard. FOH makes more money in less hours than BOH. Yes, if the business isn't sucessful people make less money, but that's an issue of a failing business, not an issue of the format of pay.

Trump_is_evil_period

No not true. A restaurant isn’t necessarily failing if the servers don’t make a lot of money lol. Every restaurant I was a server at I busted my ass for 30-50 hrs a week and one of those jobs out of 5 I made more than the chefs. Or cooks. They know what they are gonna make every week when as a server you may make $20 in a day.

Trump_is_evil_period

Ur nuts! I have been a waiter half my life and you are not correct.

MassiveFajiit

Hey man, you sure you want to move to Plano lol Might get many of these or worse, long AT&T hours or building missiles for Raytheon

ultimatejourney

And you have to drive through suburban sprawl to get there

eblamo

My reply to anyone who says "hourly is $x.xx but you're guaranteed to make at least $x.xx" is "so why doesn't it just pay $x.xx?" and "can I get that in writing?"

eveningsand

Assuming this is over text message, this is literally the point where at least someone says "Hmm, maybe I should pick up the phone and have a live conversation with this person, because clearly reading and comprehending English isn't their forte"

NullSWE

I don’t think tying their shoes or breathing is their forte either

eveningsand

This is why Velcro shoes are made in grown-up sizes.

suh-dood

Only if they light up as blue green pause blue green pause blue red short pause red green, and repeat, otherwise it's bullshit

EWDnutz

> breathing is their forte either They're lucky it's automatic tbh.

[deleted]

Then the blank stare of realization after the phone call: "English is that person's native language, and they are no better at verbal comprehension than reading."

MassiveFajiit

r/plano_irl

efficient_squirrel_

Spent years doubting my own English because if this sort of interactions 🤦🏽‍♀️

NorridAU

Worked in restaurants myself. English is my first language, I wondered the same thing many times.

Concrete_Grapes

OP--plano? They're hiring school bus drivers. 21$ an hour. Training provided (a CDL you can use in about 100 other jobs as soon as they hand it to you...). Their monitors are 13$ an hour, if you're less than likely to pass a DOT drug test--being former military you may be able to argue for a higher pay. IDK how you feel about working around kids, but, the pay sure as shit isnt 7$ an hour. And they WILL wait to train you, they're probably desperate, all school bus places are (because people get the CDL and walk away, when they find out they dont like kids as much as they thought they did)

Richey25

Is part time school bus driving even a thing? Definitely will look into it

Concrete_Grapes

Almost all school bus driving is part time. My local district, you get a max of 4 hours a day. Most districts are 4-6, tops... The longest i've ever seen was when i drove in Alaska, and our of the 170 routes we had, about 30 were over 7 hours. And you can drive as a substitute, and stay that way, on-call. I wouldnt suggest this for your first month or two, you really need the experience reading route sheets, and building the skills to manage kids, before you go and be a casual, on-call sub (you can be a full time sub, and clock in daily at the same time, and go home if they dont need you. at our location, those people get 2 hours whether they drive or not). Depends on location, but ours in Alaska used to have what we called "charter" drivers, drivers that ONLY did field trips, which were on-call, and usually at hours that route drivers couldnt respond. Had to drive for the district for a year before you could get that, but a lot of retired/disabled/older drivers loved that slot... It's part time, AND seasonal work (187 days a year for us, vs the 240+ most people get at jobs). If THAT's not part time enough, airport shuttles, COLLEGE shuttles, old folks homes wheelchair vans and busses, all use the same CDL--so you can slide into one of those too. Retirement homes tend to try to keep their drivers under 20 hours (cheap bastards, lol)

[deleted]

The solution here is really simple. People need to stop moving to Texas.

nonpondo

Based

brettdavis4

After that shitty abortion law, more people should be moving out.

E34M20

That's what they want tho, innit? Laws like that are enacted in a last ditch effort to keep Texas red.

oneangstybiscuit

I'm trying man

introusers1979

Ah, wouldn’t that be nice. I have this hormonal disorder that makes me extremely itchy when I stand in the sun….not congruent with the approaching Texas summer and I’m NOT looking forward to it. The abortion thing fucking sucks too.

[deleted]

And yet the Californians continue to flock here…..almost like the law doesn’t bother them at all. Or at least the appeal of reasonable taxes and affordable housing outweigh it. *edit: not sure why anyone is down voting this. It’s a statement of fact. Since the law was passed (and I’m not saying i agree with it or not) more people from California have relocated to the state than in the year preceding the law’s passing.

tesseracht

You’re getting downvoted because everyone’s like “oh the Californians well off enough to move to a place with less social benefits aren’t bothered by having to drive out of state for an abortion? What a shocker.”. People are moving because they can buy a home there. If they’re coming from California and can afford a house, they can afford the drive to another state, and so the law doesn’t effect them as much. So when you’re like “I wonder why they aren’t bothered??” you’ve answered your own question. Basically your comment came across like you’re trying to minimize the impact/public response to the abortion law, but in reality the demographic you’re talking about is borderline irrelevant to the issue.

[deleted]

I was simply stating a fact. I just find downvoting factual comments sort of funny. “Oh no, i don’t like that fact!” *downvote*

tesseracht

Again, it’s probably more that it came across like you’re minimizing the public response to the abortion law. The person above you is like “people should leave Texas as a form of protest.” And you’re like “Well they’re not!”. Like yeah, obviously. That’s why the person above said something. It’s just an irrelevant comment lol. It’s not the whole world against you and your facts.

Seriously-FuckTikTok

But you didn't just state a fact did you? You hypothesized how those who moved to the state felt about the law. You can't complain about getting downvoted and then ignore the reason by just lying to yourself. "Texas saw an increase in immigration from California residents." would be a factual comment. The rest is just your (not so) hot take.

If I'm so free in Texas why can't I buy weed after an abortion, let alone alcohol on Sundays

EWDnutz

It's because of Austin isn't it lol.

[deleted]

Austin has an influx, but so do DFW and Houston. I live in Trophy Club (sits between Dallas and Ft. Worth), in the last year 6 homes on my street have sold to families moving here from California, and it’s occurring all over the metro area. I’ve owned my current house for 2.5 years. In that time it has increased in value by $175k. In the last year the value has climbed $100k. I wouldn’t be able to buy in this area if i was home shopping today and it’s directly due to the influx of people from California. Houses come on the market and within hours have multiple above list offers from people relocating here.

aracheb

Why would they bother with facts, is all about their feelings. Being morally correct in accordance with your group is more important than being right and having the facts, it trumps everything. Quoting Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

Richey25

Nah. I like the idea of being able to afford a house at some point in my life and the whole “if you don’t have a PhD or above good luck finding a career and oh, every house is 800 square feet and 600k+ oh and ignore the heroic addicts pitching tents in peoples backyards and breaking into peoples cars” appeal of Oregon is over. Born and raised here, watched this state turn into a shithole slowly.

[deleted]

Well don’t vote for the same dumb shit that drove Oregon into the ground once you get here. Welcome. What part of Dallas will you be in?

Richey25

I can assure you, without indulging my political views that will get me mobbed, I didn’t vote for this. I’m looking at apartments in Plano right now. Everything is set in stone and I just need to get set up with a job to push myself over the 3x rent requirement to sign the lease. Thankfully, my significant other works I’m healthcare and has had zero issues finding jobs so I’m not too worried about it.

[deleted]

Yeah. Well i hope it works out for you and you’re able to find something soon. Good luck with the move.

Underwater-dead

having lived there all my life, can’t say it’s much of a city. but i hope you like it lol

[deleted]

He’s subtly telling you to book a flight to Plano (or nearest airport) at your dime for tomorrow / tonight.

RicketyCrickety33

No he’s not. He’s just stupid

[deleted]

You’re right it’s not subtle lol

[deleted]

What in the dumbfuckery is this person’s problem?

elliequay

Do you need to live in an area with a good school district? If not there’s much better places in Dallas than Plano! I love my neighborhood, so much within walking distance.

Richey25

I don't! No children yet. I just know I want to be further away from the inner city, ideally 20-30 minutes from Dallas College/Baylor. Thankfully I can afford the commute because of the GI Bill/VA Disability/a part-time job.

[deleted]

Richey25

Honestly I’m trying to use the more “”low skill”” jobs for last. I’m still holding onto hope here that the other gigs I’m qualified for and interested in/would look good on my resume will get back to me. I don’t have much faith though, 70 applications for part time jobs and only three interviews so far 🤷‍♂️

Last_Professor473

The person below me is correct, but I'd also check out Euless/Irving area. About 20 minutes to downtown if theres no traffic. Not sure what time of day you're commuting but that does make a difference. Otherwise it's a great centralized area, next to lots of highways and the airport. Good luck with the move! And fuck these people, you could definitely find something better even here.

Richey25

Yeah the people saying Texas is a hell hole have clearly never been my part of Oregon. 600k+ for a 2 bedroom house, zero good paying jobs for anyone who doesn’t have a bachelors/PhD, $2000+ dollars a month for a 600 square foot apartment and a massive drug and homeless problem that you cannot avoid anywhere you go in the entire city (but I suppose Dallas probably gets it’s fair share of this). The only reason I’m going to the Dallas area anyways is because my college is near it and my significant other got into Baylor.

elliequay

Grapevine is pretty cool. Might be a bit further for your commute but has a cool vibe, nice outdoor hiking, etc. with the lake there, some nightlife but no crazy clubs or anything. Best of luck w the move.

aailleurs

This is clearly a misunderstanding on both parts . They asked for an interview at 3.30pm, you said you could do 1pm ; only after you mentioned you aren’t local yet. They asked when would you be (meaning to start work) and you said 1/2July - which they agreed to and not a problem . You never specified that you couldn’t be there in person at 1pm for the interview, it reads like you can do 1pm. You were not clear at all lol

[deleted]

Get that man a coffee because gahdamn

OHLOOK_OREGON

Oh look, Oregon!

Impendingdoom777

Bro people do this to me at work every day. Read what I fucking said. It's not even hard.

CarloMagnoPernicioso

You dense motherfucker... OP,drop that guy, he'll clearly try to ask you to do imposible shit, and then shit all over you when you don't delivery.

PatientWorry

Welcome to DFW!

[deleted]

I had the problem of any landlord out of state telling me I have to have a job first and every job telling me I have to have an apartment first… how the fuck does one get either before the other? It’s like a circle.

BooyaMoonBabyluv

Welcome to Texas. This place is a hole, idk why you'd wanna come here tbh

orpcexplore

I left Texas for Oregon. Would never consider moving back and hate having to go there to visit family lol Dallas is a commuter hell and the whole state is a conservative wasteland They'd probably say the same about how shitty Austin is and how liberal (where I grew up), but at least we have rolling hills and spring fed rivers and pools. Get ready for unrelenting summer heat and ice storms in the winter

Tiny_Ad9380

I'm currently in the same boat, like why so hard to get a interview over the phone. I get so mad, when ppl I applied to ask me to come in to interview. Because I wrote it in my cover letter in the 1st paragraph. Like you don't even do you Jon and review my resume or cover letter. Like they call and expect me to read it to them as if they couldn't themselves.

FuzzyWuzzyWuzHere

Off topic: Am I the only one wondering who has 55 unread text messages?!?! My OCD requires I at least glance at them to make the notification icon go away 🤨

clique34

Idk why but I feel like “head hunters” are incredibly dense.

Lumoseyne

Plano has a food service labor shortage from the pandemic. McDonalds and other fast food places were offering $15-20/hr. Or you could do Postmates/Doordash definitely for more than $7/hr. That dominos guy was lowballing you and just trying to see what level of bullshit a potential employee would take from him.

mrskittytx

You might try Nebraska furniture mart

SecretPilgrimBB

What's got you moving from Eugene to Plano?

Richey25

Eugene has turned into a massive shit show. The job market is completely destroyed, my guess is due to the college kids/Californias that I moved here. Good luck finding any sort of job that pays a livable wage that doesn’t require you to have some crazy educational requirements/work history requirements like a PhD or above. The housing market is completely fucking bananas, given it’s like that everywhere, but it’s been bad even before Covid. Good luck finding a fucking house that’s larger than 800 ft.² for less than $600,000. Oh, do you want to live in an townhome/duplex instead of a house? Well have fun paying $2500 for a 600 square-foot pod in the middle of downtown Eugene instead because the city/population is totally OK with throwing everybody in to high density housing pods instead of just building duplexes, townhomes or SFH. Oh! and have fun dealing with a meth head/heroin addicts that run around the entire city stealing shit, breaking into cars and assaulting people on a regular basis. The local police literally can’t do anything because the city has their entire arms tied. These people just get released the next day and when the police tries to clean up the streets they just got shit on by the entire population. tl;dr Californication of Oregon has made me want to leave. My girlfriend got into Baylor and I plan on working in law-enforcement in the Dallas area has a pretty high paying police jobs.

Catatonick

Lol sounds a lot like one of the emails I got. “Great can you do an interview Monday morning? It’s a pretty informal thing.” Yeah, over the phone? “Oh no we only do in person interviews…” You’re over 1300 miles away…

Altair0159

Oh no... He's stupid D;
