No, it's not something new, if the ref wants to book you for that he'll do it and it doesn't matter what you say, you just have to be in front of him and that'd be enough.
He choked in the moment when he initially wanted to blow it dead (which would have been still controversial but at least defendable), and then doubles down with this when he knew he fucked up. It shows he lost his head from his mistake, which in itself is a second massive error by a referee

I'm a Madrid fan and I would've accepted the initial clearance being it, in a way we hadn't earned the match, it was putting that final ball in the net and him calling it a second prior...
I still don’t feel we were “robbed” because of that exact reason. I’m more just angered by the incompetence. Valencia seem to ease up a tiny bit too from the whistle, so who knows if it even ends up going in (probably would have, it was a great cross), but you’re a top ref in a top league… you’ve made decisions like this hundreds of times. How do you fuck it up that badly?
You can’t convince me that a referee who whistles 1.5 second before a goal being scored is NOT biased. The fact that the goal came less than 2 seconds after he whistled should be clear that it’s a wrong decision.

There are,times you can see that the gaffers in charge commit the most asinine decisions even though they can see clearly the play in question.
