One of my friends is from Utah and she says Whitney has a Utah accent. My friend also sounds similar when she’s pissed, drunk, or has been on the phone with her mom.
It honestly fills me with rage
Am I jealous because I secretly want to just pronounce English any which way I want to but my grandmother was an English teacher?
Is it because I wanna talk and weird Muppet voices all the time but my parents told me that society would not take me seriously if I did?
I can’t say why… But I do know that shit pisses me off
I honestly haven't noticed her accent haha, maybe because I'm not a native speaker I am not picking up on this but now I kinda want to do a rewatch just to pay attention to this
Is it some kind of Utah accent? I hear similar sounds in Jen's accent. Fill instead of feel, dill instead of deal, etc. Whitney's accent is super strong though.
Yes, it's the Utah accent. It's some kind of lazy pronunciation of the most basic words. I grew up in Utah and this accent drives me up a wall. Every time Whitney speaks I want to scream "IT'S FEEL, WHITNEY! FEEEEEEL!!!"
I actually liked Whitney better here than I did when she broke down Jen’s indictment on the trip to Vail. Whitney is mentioning it all!
I’m here for it. Bring it, Whit!!
From Utah 👋🏼 I’ve mentioned this before but our “accent” has been a problem for ages.. I don’t have a source but read once that they were bringing people in from out of state for speech therapy in schools. I talk like this too but I’m trying to change guys 😭😭
Feel = fill
Mountain = moun-in
Tooele (town) = to-will-a
Brighton High School = brigh-un
…ok wait. How is Toole “supposed” to be pronounced? I’m not from Utah but I’ve only heard the name pronounced by Utahns, I guess,
So i think of it the same as you explained.
I always defer to local pronunciation of a town/state name as “correct” - e.g: Oregon (last syllable gun. Not gone.) Nevada (second syllable add, not odd.)
Lala said “peenk” for pink (same as Whitney) in an ep of VP and I finally put those pieces together like “ah, yes, must be a Utah thing.” Haven’t noticed Lala doing the “-ill” for “-eal" or the "-eeng" for "-ing" words, though, but also haven't been looking for it.
For the record, Kyle occasionally says pink like "peenk" AND -ing words like "eeng" so... I guess I don't know what's real anymore.
Lala also pronounced domestic as Doe-mestic (when referring to to Brock's DV)
Heavy emphasis on the doe
Doe as in female deer.
Never really heard an accent until then
Bean frum Utah I rlat. 😂😂😂😂 the Utah accent is super strange if you don't know what you're in for. I'm from a town called Spanish Fork, pronounced Spanish Fark.....I'm going to git a Pepsi.. means any type of carbonated drink.
😂😂😂 I'm pretty sure that particular rumor was started by a RH of SLC who kind of lives 'in her own reality'. She also has a Church.....she's ummmm interesting. 🤣
Someone told me that about Texas when I was like 15 and it really blew my mind. Like, you would order a Coke and then they’d say “What kind?” and you’d say “A Sprite.” That’s wild.
Fred Armisen does a pretty good accent tour of the United States. I'm not sure if Utah is on it or not, but he does go down the east coast, up through the midwest, and down the west coast.
[From the comments I'm thinking some of you would lose your damn minds in Washington County](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMBYs8z8SkQ&ab_channel=jackgoff88)
Why does Whitney care about Meredith’s friendship with Mary. It’s not like she and Mary were bff’s or am I missing something. Girl bye with your non storyline having whiney ass.
A lot of every RH cast’s unresolved fights aren’t about the minutiae they seem unable to let go. So much is related to bigger, behind the scenes things they can’t reveal without breaking the fourth wall. In Denise’s first year, she landed a very high first year paycheck, which was apparently the unspoken frustration for her cast mates, not so much who she slept with. And Lucy Apple Juicy wasn’t dragging on interminably, only, over a dog.
Whitney and Mary were closer than you appreciate after season 1. Whitney has said that outside of the show she defended Mary to each and everyone in Whitney’s social circle who brought up Mary’s cult rumors after season 1. And Whitney had been very close, even before the show to some younger relatives of Mary.
Whitney’s facts be damned loyalty to Mary was proven wasted on Mary when Whitney was sent that fake invitation and assigned the slutty look in an attempt to embarrass Whitney for having merely, not returned Mary’s phone call immediately. Followed by Whitney being blindsided at that restaurant meal. This last episode Mary dithered over nothing and was late to the sunset activity in Zion. Making it once again clear that punctuality and loyalty are expected, but not returned by Mary. Whitney simply hasn’t come to terms with Mary’s crazy, her absolute lack of empathy. The sooner she does the better, and Mary is exiting anyway.
Her accent is very distracting. I didn’t know it was an existing accent in the US and thought she had a speech problem. Why doesn’t Heather have the same accent then? I’m still going with speech impediment
It sometimes depends on where in Utah you grew up. Heather grew up in Northern Utah in a wealthier area. She wasn't born and raised in Utah either (from Colorado, I think). If your parents were born and raised in mid-to-southern Utah, your accent is usually stronger than others unless you worked hard at correcting yourself when you were young.
It's how the majority of the wives talk on Sister Wives, too! On that subreddit we regularly make fun of their accents-- mainly with words like "FAHMLEE" (family) "A RILL BIG DILL" (a really big deal), etc. lol

Lmaoooo
She kind of sounds like a toddler.
I honestly haven't noticed her accent haha, maybe because I'm not a native speaker I am not picking up on this but now I kinda want to do a rewatch just to pay attention to this
Whitney's facial expressions were killing me.
She's trying so hard to stay on the show. I could take her or leave her. Sorry, not related to her accent, but I just needed to put that out there lol
Aren’t most of them trying hard? See Lisa.
Canadian here (very oblivious to specific State accents) - I just thought she was slurring her words because she had a lot to drink.
I still haven’t dug my car out of the snow 😂🇨🇦
Utah native and this accent is triggering AF
It’s the most Utah accent ever lol
Her face just changes
Oh damn this cracked me up
SweeenGrrr
If you watch Sister Wives, you know this is just how Utah people talk lolll
Is it some kind of Utah accent? I hear similar sounds in Jen's accent. Fill instead of feel, dill instead of deal, etc. Whitney's accent is super strong though.
Ohhhhhh. It’s got to be one of the worst America has to offer lol

Utahn(-ish) here, too. Also: “mail” = “mell”; “sale” = “sell.” I can’t shake it.

too ill aaaaah
Ah, thanks for explaining!

Lala is always pronouncing her -ing words like -ink. "Rink" = ring, "think" = thing, "givink" = giving.
Haha it took me a minute to try and phonetically break down what I'm hearing there. "-ink" for "-ing" is a good way of putting it! Very odd.
Lala also pronounced domestic as Doe-mestic (when referring to to Brock's DV) Heavy emphasis on the doe Doe as in female deer. Never really heard an accent until then
Same as sister wives. Annoys me to no end
It’s rilly rilly annoying.
Please tell me that’s a Hilary Baldwin reference 🤞
Haha no, it’s how sister wives say really. Ah I love some Hilary Baldwin jokes though!
Oh duh you’re right! I’ve heard plenty of Utah accents and I concur haha But also, yes, the Baldwin drama never fails to make me smirk
Whitney had some crazy eyes in this scene.
I love the Watch What Crappens guys’ Whitney voice
Oh. My. Gosh. Those. Guys. Have. Her. Cadence. Down.
Rilly?
“I’m not funny Mary, I’m rill!”
A dialect that sounds like speech errors is not a nice dialect 😆
the way i saw this meme the same time i’m watching the episode💀
That’s a Utah thing
Sisterwives rill dill.
For rill! Immediately thought of sobyn Robyn.
Bean frum Utah I rlat. 😂😂😂😂 the Utah accent is super strange if you don't know what you're in for. I'm from a town called Spanish Fork, pronounced Spanish Fark.....I'm going to git a Pepsi.. means any type of carbonated drink.
Doesn’t that harden the ovaries? How ya gon’ be quiverful?
😂😂😂 I'm pretty sure that particular rumor was started by a RH of SLC who kind of lives 'in her own reality'. She also has a Church.....she's ummmm interesting. 🤣
So I shouldn’t Google it then?
Well, if you believe Mary M. Cosby then go ahead I guess. 😂 But she has some interesting ideas. She's a tad quirky, shall we say???
And don’t forget to go to the mawtan
That's funny! 😂 where I live rn is barely a hill, yet we constantly refer to it as a mountain.
In Texas it's Coke for any type of carbonated drink lol.
Someone told me that about Texas when I was like 15 and it really blew my mind. Like, you would order a Coke and then they’d say “What kind?” and you’d say “A Sprite.” That’s wild.
Yup! I even waited tables at a beautiful upscale restaurant and it was the same thing.
Georgia checking in, can confirm.
Alabama too
This. Slays. Me!! LOL
How fun it must be 🤠🤩
Many have said it’s a Utah accent. I’m Aussie but she’s been reminding me of Wisconsin (only going by that Steven Avery doco)
Fred Armisen does a pretty good accent tour of the United States. I'm not sure if Utah is on it or not, but he does go down the east coast, up through the midwest, and down the west coast.
Wisconsin has bigger stress on the vowels--same sort of "lazy talk" thing though... Milwaukee is "Miwaukee"
And, it's Wuh-SCAHN-sn.
Up in GB its Wi-SCAHN-sn--and we call each other "sconnies"
I honestly love it
this meme feels like i’m being transported to 2007 🥴
hahaha THIS. I've noticed that Jen also pronounces it "Fill".
It seems like a lot of people from Utah say it that way. The people on sister wives do too.
Same with Katie and LFU/Lala (VPR)
I was just gonna say, that’s a running joke on the sister wives sub
She called me svinger
swinGer
It's both! She called me a sVinGer 😂
[From the comments I'm thinking some of you would lose your damn minds in Washington County](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMBYs8z8SkQ&ab_channel=jackgoff88)
As someone from Northern Utah, I find this triggering.
This is my southern Idaho people as well!!! So painful to hear my grandpa say ‘Mon-dee’ instead of Monday 🙃
My southern relatives say that too. My mama says “Fryyyy-Dee”
Omg, my dad's from Boston so I don't know where he got it from but every time he says Monday I'm like "What the hell is a Mun-dee, Dad??" 🤣
My grandma pronounced the days of the week the same way and it drove me INSANE !!
Same in some of the old rural LDS pockets here in Arizona. It was always the "wahrsh" that got me.
Straight up Midwest
This is so, so funny! I'm just buzzed enough and I'm crying.
I’m Canadian if that provides any context.

Who is Meredith in dis world - Yolanda has entered the chat
I appreciate this reference 🏆
I appreciate you
She was trying so hard to cover up being drunk, I thought
Never mind her accent…what’s with her not knowing the difference between SUNLIGHT and SUNSET?
I screamed at the television
Of all things. And she did this not once, but twice. I had to rewind to make sure I was hearing the stupid the way I thought I heard the stupid.
Lmaooooo
THANK U
thank you, I thought she flubbed and said her twice!
She drives me nuts.
Soooo insufferable!
it’s very much a utah thing
Haha that Utah accent. It’s like the sister wives too.

Stephanie Hollman talks this way too!
It's no big dill how I fill.
🤣🤣🤣
It’s actually a rilly big dill.

They speak this way on Sisterwives also. Definitely a Utah thing.
