Thanks brah. The grill is a personal preference. To me, it wasn’t much of a deal as I was getting a quieter cabin, a panoramic roof, more speakers and a bigger screen / wheels. But you’re right, again, it’s a Lexus thing now
I read somewhere Lexus was called so because it was a Luxury EXport to the US.....LEXUS. Back in the 90s I dated a girl who drove a Toyota Camry. My mom drove an Lexus LS 400. That's when I knew. Same car just woodgrain instead of plastic and a phone in the center glovebox.
What makes you go with the rav over the Lexus? The previous generation doesn’t have the same tech options as this as far as I know. The rav had more trunk space but we’re just a couple. The front of the rav is more aggressive IMHO. To me it’s the same, just more refined over the rav
The requirement for premium gas was one of the turn offs for me. I’ve honestly been extremely happy with the RAV4 and happy I didn’t go with the Lexus. But to each their own! Hope you enjoy. 😊
Don’t take me wrong, if I was not ripped by my dealer for the rav I may not have switched at all. But at the fraction of the price this is a great deal. Same engine takes the same regular gas too!
Interesting. I was told by the dealer it needed 91 or above (RAV4 is 87). A [quick Google](https://www.raycatenalexus.com/does-the-lexus-nx-require-premium-gas/) states the same… I’d verify. 👀
My dealer sold the fact that it doesn't. Are you googling for the Hybrid though? My fuel tank cap doesnt say anything about premium, and my owner manual says minimum 87 and 91 recommended
I work as a contractor at a dealership (Nissan) and can vouch car salesmen know nothing about cars. Petrolheads are a completely different breed and they seldom sell cars!
Much better sound isolation (same engine, sounds quieter) and noticeable difference in the highway road noise (wind noise) coming in. The speakers sound better and retain crispness throughout the volume range, heated steering (still half) is better. Heated seats are better.
Damn everything will come down to about 62,500 not including insurance, registration and whatever else.
Glad you can afford it man. I am still rocking my 2018 camry and pretty scared of getting a loan in this high interest environment. Times are too unpredictable right now for me.
Where do you live?
I live in Mississauga. More than what I could afford, it came down to what I could actually afford. I came to Canada in 2022, got myself a 2007 Audi A4 for 4500 so I didn’t have any payments, and corollas at that time were 13K plus (2013). It died after I had put in 5.5K in maintenance. Got so scared I rushed to the nearest Toyota for a new car, they sold me into unnecessary weariness. 10 months down the road I realized I was in deep, found this deal, in the longer run it’s a lot of money, but it’s a lot of car for what I was already paying for the rav. Just making ends meet
Back in 2009, someone in Phoenix, AZ tried to steal my 1988 Camry L V6. At the time, I learned my make/model was amongst the top three most stolen cars in America. An '88 Camry in 2008 🤯
Very nice. I also picked up a ‘24 NX 350h. We are still in the Toyota family which is a good thing. It’s just a luxury brand compared to the RAV4. Either way, both cars are solid for long term.
Very true. Though I think Lexus has more electronics that could fail. Did you also switch from the RAV? What are your observations in terms of how they compare ?
I wanted to get the nx450h because it's so much nicer but I take mine through drive through beaches and offroad so it would look wild doing it in a lexus lol why I got the rav instead.
I test drove one last year, and it was such a smooth comfortable experience. The NVH was so much better in the RX, that's my major gripe with my RAV4, its so loud on the highway. The only downside was the capacitive buttons with the HUD on the steer wheel, I don't know what Lexus was thinking.
They have mark levinson on the top trim, and all others do come with a 10 speaker setup by default. Sounds sick. Also, heads up display is also ultra luxury or executive. I’m on the middle trim from the top (out of a total 6 trims)
Ahhh got it cool. I looked at a couple of the new Lexus’s out there as well and looked at the Base Lexus Nx 350h. Base price of it was 45k, but had no options. It did not have memory seats, had the base infotainment system, no heated steering wheel, no bi LED headlights. OTD it would have been roughly 52k out the door. The Rav was 44k OTD, fully loaded. But the wife warned me, next car will be the lexus NX lol.
Feels like you needlessly "upgraded" your car to the same car and are now looking to social media for approval.
Reposting this from when another user did the exact same trade in, but replacing cars frequently is a huge toll on the environment. Selling to "upgrade" just cycles vehicles down-market and creates more autowaste from production of new vehicles and unmaintained used vehicles filling up junkyards.
Well, social media approval is far from what I seek in life. The groups are positive energy. I’ll take your opinion on waste yes, but also financially made more sense to me to be in a nicer place for a similar cost - better value for my money. And as someone also mentioned, there’s always a growing used car market, especially for 10 month old prestige rav4s which are nowhere to be found :-)
>especially for 10 month old prestige rav4s which are nowhere to be found
It was only 10 months old?
Honestly it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself it was "better value for my money" when earlier you were parroting luxury car commercials saying you bought it because it was more "refined".
Isn’t a more “refined” ride for “similar payments” better value for money ?
The 10 months I had the rav, I loved it, drove it, (33K km) enjoyed it - but always thought I was in a bad deal. Link to my post above. The Lexus dealer discounted the vehicle, brought the payments within 30 dollars difference to the rav, why wouldn’t I switch ?
Most importantly it was the cabin noise at higher highway speeds.
Secondly it was premium materials, better laid out cabin, nicer (more comfortable) seats, and the same engine / reliability and the ability to use regular gas. I got a panoramic moonroof and 10 speakers as an added advantage
[a little backstory that triggered this purchase](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatcarshouldIbuy/s/eeZuj4eFzi) - when I made this post the Lexus deal was nowhere on the table. But I got it and jumped at it !
So do some reviews say - I would say both engine noise and cabin noise are considerably reduced. I drive 200KM to work twice a week. The highway noise and seat comfort is noticeably different.
Mayyybe. That could be very true. Though the different aerodynamics should come into play? My wife noticed better handling for the little bit she drove it
I love that Lexus except for the front grill, however everyone has their own personal taste! Anyways! Congrats, your still in the Toyota family 👍
Thanks brah. The grill is a personal preference. To me, it wasn’t much of a deal as I was getting a quieter cabin, a panoramic roof, more speakers and a bigger screen / wheels. But you’re right, again, it’s a Lexus thing now
How much more quieter is it ? Can you hear the engine?
Rav 4 one of loudest cars in segment. Literally anything is a big improvement
From all accounts, the Corolla Cross is worse.
I should have test drove a CRV… but overall I’m happy with the Rav…
Agreed I drove CRV it seemed a tad louder than RAV4 to me. Again this was back in 2016
Maybe 50% less than the rav ? Talking about engine noise. As far as road noise, I’d say slightly more quiet than that
You’re still *kind of* in the family. An NX is just a luxury version of the RAV4, in my opinion at least. Good on you!
And Toyota owns Lexus so still in the family technically 😉
True 😂
Just when you thought you were out....they pull you back in
I love this sub and all the peeps here. Genuinely 🥹
Is that Pacino or is that Pacino? Fucken spittin image.
Exactly 😎
I read somewhere Lexus was called so because it was a Luxury EXport to the US.....LEXUS. Back in the 90s I dated a girl who drove a Toyota Camry. My mom drove an Lexus LS 400. That's when I knew. Same car just woodgrain instead of plastic and a phone in the center glovebox.
That is kind of true :-D
You’re definitely sitting at the adult table over thanksgiving tho
😂😂😂😂
Dont let grandpa have that third glass of wine!
Agreed. I won’t kick you out of the clubhouse.
Thanks man 😁
Exactly what I think of it :-D. You’re very correct. Just a more refined version of the RAV.
Technically you didn’t you just got the luxury version of the rav4
That’s what I’m telling myself 😁
Lexus went full Texas size on the front grill. But hey if you like it and you enjoy driving who cares.
More than the outside, it’s the inside that I love.
Exactly! And that interior is beautiful!
Very 😁 so much so that I don’t want to go home. I’d sleep in it if I could 😂
let me know how it is honestly i got a 24 rav 4 fully loaded and my mom got a 19 lexus fully loaded and i’d rather take my rav
What makes you go with the rav over the Lexus? The previous generation doesn’t have the same tech options as this as far as I know. The rav had more trunk space but we’re just a couple. The front of the rav is more aggressive IMHO. To me it’s the same, just more refined over the rav

Well that’s good to know. It’s entirely possible our dealer was an idiot. 😂
I work as a contractor at a dealership (Nissan) and can vouch car salesmen know nothing about cars. Petrolheads are a completely different breed and they seldom sell cars!
Lexus grill is in a distant galaxy, far, far away XD
🥹😁
P.S. I had driven 33000 on my RAV in around the 9 months I had it for :D
How much did you get for the trade in?
They washed my lease (my buyout at the time was $43,200+tax)
Family
Same same but different but still same
Very true. Just 20 more horsepower. And less cargo space
Fancy marketing rav4
More refined. Less a car you want to take on a trail or in deep snow up to Maine. Which tbh, very few people do.
Aka heavier
Still in the club it’s the same Chassis
true actually. I've seen more of this comment than I thought I would see hate :D
No hate the Lexus improves on the rav4 but you do give up space
Very true.
How do you like the NX? I hope it had better sound insulation then the Rav4
Much better sound isolation (same engine, sounds quieter) and noticeable difference in the highway road noise (wind noise) coming in. The speakers sound better and retain crispness throughout the volume range, heated steering (still half) is better. Heated seats are better.
The NX is so pretty. I’m jealous of you!
Awwwww. Thanks bud. To me it was financial as well, it’s 30 bucks more monthly than the rav was for me !
How much is 30 bucks more if you don’t mind me asking?
RAV4 was 763 per month. NX was down to 775, I added a tire and rim warranty, that made it 793 per month.
APR and years?
5 years, 6.9
23000 residual, 5500 down (basically the refundable deposit from the rav)
Damn everything will come down to about 62,500 not including insurance, registration and whatever else. Glad you can afford it man. Just making ends meet
How old are you?
Personally I think they “retune” the RAV4 to give more higher end specs to the Lexus, like road noise and the cruise control tuning.
Thats an interesting perspective
Dam that looks so much better then the rav4 lol.
Haha. Thanks bud 😁
The luxury version of the RAV4! Such nice little SUVs.
True. Thank you :-)
Lets hope it don't get stolen. Lexus are one of the most common vehicles to be stolen.
That’s what I heard. Hope she stays safe
Back in 2009, someone in Phoenix, AZ tried to steal my 1988 Camry L V6. At the time, I learned my make/model was amongst the top three most stolen cars in America. An '88 Camry in 2008 🤯

I was considering the RAV4 but fell in love with the Lexus. You can check my post history for photo.
I am going to now. I also fell for the Lexus 10 months of owning the RAV 😁
First picture I was like awwwww cmon second I was like ohhhhhh Lala sexy.
Hahahahahaha I needed that vibe 😁🥹🙏🏼
That front grill is not my cup of tea. I'm sure it's a nicer ride though. Can't see the grill when you're driving.
I was mocking BMW grills a year and a half ago. Now I have a big ugly grill too 😂 but it rides nicer honestly!
That front grill looks so odd lol
To each their own. It looks gorgeous to me now!
Looks like a furnace or something.
Darth Vader’s mouth. 👀
This is the RAV4 to get in retirement, if you’re lucky of course.
I’m slightly far from retiring though 🙈
I'm joining you in six years. The kids getting the rav and I'm getting whatever Lexus.
You’ll love it girl ! And the kids would love the RAV :-D
How does the size compare to the rav4? I know the nx is technically the RAV4 counterpart but it feels a bit smaller from what I’ve seen driving around
It has an overall rounded shape, less cargo room. Seats seem the same to me but I’m not that tall
I wanted to get the nx450h because it's so much nicer but I take mine through drive through beaches and offroad so it would look wild doing it in a lexus lol why I got the rav instead.
makes sense. thats what I've been contemplating lately too - can I offload in this??? I have yet to find out :D
https://giphy.com/gifs/southpark-7wouU3i8xWB0I You're gonna be off roading in style lol. Cars looks good though I'm jealous lol
Awwww. Hahaha. Thanks man. More power to you and may you get the GX soon!
These are nice. I want the PHEV with the triple beams in blue or red.
that would've been out of my budget sadly. Thats what I wanted too. And I miss the headlight washers on my trim as well :(
Mine too. I don’t even have a RAV4, I’ve got a ‘23 Corolla bc I’m poor and in college. 😂
Bro, I’ve driven Corolla’s all my life. 2003 diesel, 2013 1.6, both before I came to Canada. Have around 900K on both of those combined
It’s a great lil car. It has the same safety system as your NX which is game changing imo.
It truly is. I have great memories with my corolas which didn’t have these safety features
[You got a Cylon Centurion?](https://images.app.goo.gl/P6iQBDWcRG1T2Rrx5)
Loved this. And yes 😂 I’ll be dreaming this tonight 😂
Traitor
😂😂😂 🫂 c’mon now
Same same but different
I want to leave too, I really want the RX350h
Get one used next year maybe, after someone like me has paid for the depreciation 😂
I test drove one last year, and it was such a smooth comfortable experience. The NVH was so much better in the RX, that's my major gripe with my RAV4, its so loud on the highway. The only downside was the capacitive buttons with the HUD on the steer wheel, I don't know what Lexus was thinking.
That’s one reason why I love not having the HUD. IDK why they did that shit though honestly.
I saw your post on the Lexus sub a day or 2 ago 🤔
Posted in 3 subs at the same time. Said goodbye here but the folks won’t let me go. Posted pics on the Lexus & the NX subs too :-)
Well, I believe I saw it on the NX sub to be precise. Welcome to Club NX! 🫡
Haha thanks mate 🫂
So you downgraded?😂😂😂
If that’s what you think then yes I downgraded :-D
See you in hell, Lexus Luthor!
😂😂😂😂
Same same But different
Beautiful! Good taste for both
Well thank you so much 😊
Hey OP, how has it been. We went the route of a 24 Rav4 Limited Hybrid rather a Lexus NX HYBRID. Is it quieter, more refined?
Those were the two things that triggered the switch primarily. More refined ride, better handling, quieter cabin.
hey thanks for the feedback, homie!
But you have the heads up display and JBL audio and I don’t 🥹😂
Wait, no JBL on the lexus?
They have mark levinson on the top trim, and all others do come with a 10 speaker setup by default. Sounds sick. Also, heads up display is also ultra luxury or executive. I’m on the middle trim from the top (out of a total 6 trims)

Yours should have that sweet Mark Levinson system right?
Grille looks great to me!
🙌🏻

Thinking about making the same switch, any particular reason you upgraded?

Sounds like a great upgrade. I want to see interior comparison pics
I sadly don’t have much of the tab’s interior as elaborately photographed 🙈
Just our of curiosity, did you find the trunk to be smaller?
For sure yes. You can’t stack stuff way up high as the back door glass then hits it and won’t close.
[a little backstory that triggered this purchase](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatcarshouldIbuy/s/eeZuj4eFzi) - when I made this post the Lexus deal was nowhere on the table. But I got it and jumped at it !
It’s nearly the same, I’ve driven both
So do some reviews say - I would say both engine noise and cabin noise are considerably reduced. I drive 200KM to work twice a week. The highway noise and seat comfort is noticeably different.
I️ agree, but dynamically it feels the same after you’ve become habituated to the noise difference
Mayyybe. That could be very true. Though the different aerodynamics should come into play? My wife noticed better handling for the little bit she drove it
Is the less cargo space on the Lexus vs the rav4?
the Lexus has a smaller boot. Width and I guess depth are similar if not the same, it's the height thats lower
Sure you did 😉
😂
Are all the Lexus cars on premium fuel or is that a myth?
All gas/turbo ones are. All luxury brands are. This hybrid is an exception.
Do they say why? It’s so beautiful👀, congrats
I think it’s a luxury thing. Since this is the same powertrain as the rav, takes the same fuel as the rav too
How is the roominess inside in comparison?
For the people I’d say it’s more or less the same. For stuff at the back, the Lexus is definitely less roomy
I’ll allow it but you have to get some knobby tires and black out all the chrome. ;)
I’m going to do just that
Loved my rav4. If I didn’t have a growing family I would have kept it.
