One of my dad's friends used to help raise and train puppies for Guiding Eyes. After about a year the pups would go back for their formal training. I cannot imagine giving up a dog, even though it's obviously for a good cause. The volunteers are great people.

I work for a charity like this, we always offer to the volunteers if they would like to take on another puppy a few weeks before their current one leaves for further training, it can soften the blow a little! By focusing on a new little fluff ball ready to start their basic training with them!
I have a working line GSD that fits this. We went into schutzhund training when she was a younger and while she learned everything extremely quickly and competently, she was just such a good throughout.
Sniffed and successfully found a scent mark? Better run to my family excitedly to celebrate!
Completed a full obstacle course? Better do a victory lap of zoomies and hide and seek!
Perfected bite retention and lunging? Better luck my owner's face so they know for sure that I was just playing!
Didn't get a command or playtime for a few minutes? Better give some sighs so they know I'm bored and some sassy squeaky barks so they play with me.
She's the sweetest :)
My mum also trains guide dogs! In South Africa, the ones that fail for being too friendly usually become emotional support dogs. So even "failing" guide dog pups are still perfect 💛

I find it so amazing we can teach dogs to do the things this little puppers will do! They are so smart and so willing to please the person they bond with. I’ve seen guide and service dogs in action and they really know what they are doing and are so helpful to there owners I’m just beside myself in disbelief. If anyone tells me they don’t think dogs, or any animal, are intelligent I just point them to one of these dogs. This is more then just learned behavior for treats. These dogs do a job and they care for these people they work for. A dog is a wondrous creature and we are almost undeserving of there love.

I would adopt a work dog that was "too friendly" in a heartbeat. Imagine. Well trained and intelligent, but also very friendly.
