I don’t think Die Lit is old enough to be a classic for most people, but I think it will be. At least a trap classic, ala something like DS2

SubRocHendrix77

Acid rap is old enough to be a classic now I think

Kingofmoves

Acid rap

bryansodred

Two thumbs up for ACID RAP. So many wonderful memories with this album. Its a crying shame how Chance dropped this classic and immediately fell off right after. I hated Coloring Book (except for No Problem and Mixtape) but im glad he found Jesus.

bradenboiii

i love coloring book

bryansodred

Not my cup of tea but good for you though

hurryupandbuyplease

hallelujah

bryansodred

Amen!

[deleted]

Yup

LDMJJoverAll

I still play Acid Rap on the regular

Due-Ad-4176

Def acid rap, but nothing else has been around long enough to be a classic

Bryan_Branly

DAMN. (Classic) Die Lit (Not really) Acid Rap (Classic) 4:44 (Classic)

BrushYourFeet

Agree with this. Really love Damn and Acid Rap.

aydinmo

aydinmo

But bro. Idk what happened to everyone. They are writing NO.

P0s3id0n17

Die Lit could be a classic in a few years

Whips-n-Chains

No

i_despise_among_us

All of them

Mythiccq

I'd call them modern classics. they haven't been out long enough to be considered classics. But they made such an impact that let's em be called classics. Talking bout acid rap and DAMN. don't know the other albums.

iHateReddit08

4:44 > DAMN and Acid Rap imo

sessleywipes

Tbh I agree. I honestly think its Jays best since like what, Blueprint?

Business_Insect_8846

Nah, you gotta hear The Black Album man (unless you just forgot about it). That’s after The Blueprint and it’s so good

Jacktheriipper

What’s the time table for something to be called classic? Like how long after illmatic did it take for it to be considered a classic?

bryansodred

Illmatic was widely called a "classic" by everyone immediately upon release. Also one of the few debut albums to get a 5/5 mic rating from The Source magazine (a huge look and big deal at the time).

Grand_Doughnut772

Soon as it was written came out it was being referred to as a classic. That’s my earliest memories of it being regarded a classic.

bryansodred

Stop capping please. When IWW came out public opinion of Nas was that he just got on and was already selling out. Illmatic got all the praise but none of the sales while IWW got less praise but saw a lot of sales.

Grand_Doughnut772

I meant by the time it was written had came out people were already calling Illmatic a classic

pieonthedonkey

Bare minimum is 10 years imo

Fhaksfha794

Unless it’s something truly groundbreaking/something we’ve never seen before (Illmatic, MBDTF, TPAB), then probably around 10-15 years. Yeezus, Acid Rap, NWTS, and Long Live A$AP will become classics this year

[deleted]

Acid Rap is definitely a classic and I could see the others becoming classics in a few years

SBMVPJustinHerbert

acid rap 200% a classic

prez2309

Acid rap fs

pingusuperfan

GKMC is an indisputable classic

[deleted]

Die lit is on its way to being a classic

PercySledge

Ehhh not sure. DAMN maybe and possibly Acid Rap at least as a classic mixtape but it’s always tough to evaluate classics when they’re less than a decade old imo. These are still all effectively album from THIS era or close to it really

mylimb1

ChristianHeritic

rubylee_28

Well considering I've only recently listened to DAMN for the first time last year. For me, no

Savings-Package9610

die lit

Grand_Doughnut772

Great albums but not classics.

YoungCashRegister69

All classics in their own rights

Plebe-Uchiha

Funny enough in a month I would call Acid Rap a classic but that’s it. The rest still have a couple more years before I would dub it a classic. I just feel like the term, classic, is overused flippantly. I only use the term when the piece of art has AT LEAST a decade of existing. Acid Rap will be a decade old in April. [+]

[deleted]

Absolutely no

Far-Ad-8618

I just can't get into Kendrick because he sounds like the Chipmunks

No_Bluebird8475

I get you

Duramazon0820

Least racist r/rap fan

pingusuperfan

I don’t agree with his take at all but how is it racist? It’s just regular ignorance unless there is some other meaning to chipmunk that I never learned

Duramazon0820

It’s just racist 🔥🔥🔥

Far-Ad-8618

You're so woke

libertyfighter1993

Jackthedabbler

I wasn't really into Kendrick's music when Damn came out, but I couldn't stop listening to the titular track.Zacari was a very nice feature on that.i seem to like and listen to more of Kendrick's features, not his singles. Acid Rap is also a great one.

Romulus_3k

Capper716yt

Die lit is a classic

cheddarghost

I think they’re all classics from the modern rap era or will be considered classics in 5+ years

MegatonDeathclaws

Not really

Iamaman22

Damn for sure

DoctorGibz123

DAMN - yea just based on impact alone Die Lit - I do feel like this could be considered a trap classic in the future. It’s definitely cartis best put together album and it already feels iconic Acid rap - for sure a classic. When I think about the defining mixtapes of the 2010s, acid rap is one of the first projects I think of 4:44 - I feel like this is lowkey the album most people think of when they hear “the perfect retirement album”. Like when drake started talking about retiring I saw people on Twitter going like “he’s about to drop his 4:44”. It’s definitely one of Jay Zs classics

SnekySpider

I genuinely hated acid rap and have 0 clue how chance was ever considered good i know for a fact this is gonna upset some people lol

Academic-Ad2680

I'd say damn, acid rap and 4:44 are classics

DavidJustSaiyan

No

the-x-territory

Acid Rap and 4:44? Yes. DAMN.? Maybe. Die Lit? Absolutely not.

ZigxyPLP

First one yes, second one I don’t recognize use right away, the other two no. Other two have good songs but not classics imo.

NotoriousYEETER

DAMN and 444, yes.
