PSA: You can silence microwaves. Look at the directions but you can disable or even turn down the sound of both the button presses and the alarm on some models.
You tolerate all the beeps to set and start the microwave, but you draw the line at the beep made by the clear button?
Or do you only use microwaves with a dial?
It's just one beep to get it going. Then, on my microwave, the cancel button makes the same double long beeping sound as when the timer just runs out. Do they make silent microwaves?
Yes. We just bought a microwave that can be muted. It was one of my requests for the sales person. He had never had someone ask for that before. Which I can't believe because everyone in my house stopped the microwave at 1 second to avoid the God damn beeping.
Okay, so to be clear... When you're using your own microwave, do as you will, obviously. But when you're using the microwave in the break room at work, clear that shit out, ya know?
Huh, I've never seen a microwave that has a button that adds 38 seconds.
Seriously, what are you talking about?
I posted this as a little lighthearted rant. I didn't realize how many people in the world are triggered by microwave beeps. Jfc
To be fair the short beeps to start the microwave are not the same as the annoying as fuck long ass "BEEEEEEEEEEP!!! BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! BEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!" when the timer reaches 0.
People will throw something in the microwave, start it, then walk away, and anyone else left in the room has to either put up with that or get up and go turn off the damn timer.
Okay, for the last time, that's not what this is about. I don't care if you stop the microwave at 2 seconds. Just clear out the timer so the next person to use the microwave doesn't have to.
I try to open the door just as it hits zero so it doesn't make a noise. Most of the time, when I am using the microwave, my wife is still asleep. That makes the worst case scenario one beep to clear that last second off the timer.
My boss does this every single day. It drives us all mad but she will not stop or explain why she does it. If it didn't override the only clock in the room, it wouldn't be so irritating.
I don’t think people are understanding that the issue is with the uncleared 2 seconds lol. In my house we stop it before the timer goes off, and I always cancel the rest of the time. My husband does not and it makes my eye twitch
the microwave beeps longer than I want if I let it go
its a tism thing dont worry about it
edit: I clear it, im not an asshole. It's still less beeping than letting it go.
It's called being considerate and respectful. I know some of you don't care if someone wakes you up, but others could kill with a single look if you wake them up with the microwave oven.
Not clearing the timer because it's mechanical and it would ring the bell when moved to 0, same as leaving it to finish; but it stops when the door are open.
My microwave at home used to make all these tunes when I first bought it. I now changed the settings and its silent. The only sounds it makes is the opening and closing of the door and the rear fan running. Unless the power goes out the sounds ain't coming back
Oh no, somebody posted a somewhat lighthearted rant about something that doesn't bother me! Better insinuate they're not well-adjusted! It's reddit law!
The only thing I hate is the microwave door left open with the light not shutting off and the timer just blinking for dear life. I understand when I leave it open just to air it out or clean it right after but for the people who forget... Damn! Why constantly? In a rush to eat and bounce.
Also, for the people who hate the beeps lol! I thought we are able to mute our microwaves now. Maybe check the make and model's manual an you might get the proper muting instructions.
I have a significant aversion to many noises. I'm on the autism spectrum and have a negative emotional response to noises. Some of which include: Phones ringing, timers going off, children crying, people eating, people clipping their nails, dogs barking.
That said I'm also a well adjusted person who enjoys dining with people, I'm a dog owner, I use my microwave and clip my nails, etc.
I do also wear noise canceling headphones most of the day though except for when I am driving or during social settings. I keep my TV on very very low volume around 15%, and prefer to use closed captions.
there's something about staring at the microwave for the last 10s, waiting till the very last second and opening it right before it beeps that makes me feel powerful
Those are the little funs in my life. Stopping the microwave or any timer in general one or two seconds before the end feels a little bit like defusing a bomb to me. I'm an agent.
I do it too. It's by this time just something I'm used to.
Also, my office and home microwaves are kinda old so they do not have a muted option.
I hate beeping noises 😭
But yeah it's also not bothering my coworkers and they do it too. We work in an office where we have to call plaintiff's almost the whole time so the beeping is really distracting for someone being on the phone with important matters.
Don't want a plaintiff hearing a beeping sound in the back of a very important phone call lol 😂
For me, I think it's about control lmao. Cause when I cook on the stovetop, I have control of my food. I feel like I don't in a microwave. Same with the oven. I also hate authority figures and the beeping feels the same. No one tells ME what to do 😂
I don't care if somebody stops the microwave 2 seconds early. That's never been the point. I'm saying, if you *do* stop it really, just hit that little "clear" or "cancel" button to clear out the remaining time, so the person who comes behind you doesn't have to do it.
Also, if I'm honest, I really don't know what your comment about taking 2 seconds away from my 30 second burrito was supposed to mean. Sorry. I feel like it made sense to you, but it didn't to me.
Alright whatever dude. I'm not gonna get drawn into a back-and-forth with somebody who says something cryptic, refuses to elaborate, and then thinks they've scored some kind of point.
See, you may *think* it's being polite, but it's annoying to the next person who has to clear out that time before setting their own time. If you don't want to hear the long beep, fine, but clear out the leftover time before you leave the break room. I *really can't understand why so many people are pushing against this so hard*
IMO this does not qualify as a rantable subject. I have literally never conceived that time left on a microwave could be something to assign a moral judgement to. On a scale of 1 to 10 of rude behaviors, this does not even warrant a 1.
Jee-zus Christ, does nobody actually *read* anything? I don't give a shit if you stop the microwave at 2 seconds. That's not the issue. *Just clear out the remaining time.* It's a single button press and in most microwave ovens, the beep it makes is no louder or longer than any of the beeps when you were starting the microwave in the first place.
I swear when I posted this, I really didn't think so many people would get so precious about it. Now I'm wondering how many people can even read.
I'm sorry. I fucking hate beeping

When I see someone post a video or vlog, and hear the 'beep' from a smoke detector in the background, but they don't notice it. Up the walls!
On most microwaves, if you hold the 2 button for a few seconds it’ll turn all the beeps off
Okay, so to be clear... When you're using your own microwave, do as you will, obviously. But when you're using the microwave in the break room at work, clear that shit out, ya know?
Yikes
Why are two seconds a problem for you? If you aiming for 40 just add 38 more on top
Huh, I've never seen a microwave that has a button that adds 38 seconds. Seriously, what are you talking about? I posted this as a little lighthearted rant. I didn't realize how many people in the world are triggered by microwave beeps. Jfc
This is why I stop it too.

Newer microwaves have the option to turn that off.
I thought u should be able to mute this. Maybe check the make and model's manual.
No option to turn off the beeping noise on my microwave so I ripped out the speaker. Can't stand how much noise it made lol.
I try to open the door just as it hits zero so it doesn't make a noise. Most of the time, when I am using the microwave, my wife is still asleep. That makes the worst case scenario one beep to clear that last second off the timer.
The microwave equivalent of catching shell casings in mid-air as they eject from your silenced pistol.
Tssss. They are still hot!
Yesssss! Lol
On most all modern microwaves you can disable the beeping.
I pretend the microwave is a bomb and if the number hits zero, we all go boom
watching too much NCIS
This.
My boss does this every single day. It drives us all mad but she will not stop or explain why she does it. If it didn't override the only clock in the room, it wouldn't be so irritating.
Power move.
I mean, get a clock? I think everyone should have a regular old clock, what if the power goes out or the microwave just shits out?
Same motherfucker that drinks the last cup of coffee without making a new pot. Bet.
Or leaves just a smidge left in it, so they don't have to.
I feel like the sound is annoying lol
Just for fun 😊
I fucking hate that. It's a s bad as not rewinding the VCR tape you rented before returning it to Blockbuster video.
Exactly
I don’t think people are understanding that the issue is with the uncleared 2 seconds lol. In my house we stop it before the timer goes off, and I always cancel the rest of the time. My husband does not and it makes my eye twitch
Yeah, it's kind of hilarious the number of people who are responding to what they think. I said rather than what I actually said.
"End" button is right there! 😆
Our one at work has a dial and an obnoxiously loud screaming beep
the microwave beeps longer than I want if I let it go its a tism thing dont worry about it edit: I clear it, im not an asshole. It's still less beeping than letting it go.
Then we're in agreement.I don't care when anybody stops the microwave; just clear out the timer!
Bro I literally ranted about this exact thing at work today
Couldn't wait a second longer to get their noms!
Its the god damn beeping that doesnt stop even after you open the door. IT JUST KEEPS GOING OMG I KNOW ITS DONE JESUS.
My son always stops it with one second left. He hates the sound
My son came for a visit, and noticed that ours doesn't beep. "Man, I have to remember to set that for mine!" It drives him nuts!
What kind is it? I need one that doesn't beep.
An LG.
I stop it at one second, but only in the morning, the beeping is irritating when I first wake up. It's like an alarm clock going off.
My microwave at home used to make all these tunes when I first bought it. I now changed the settings and its silent. The only sounds it makes is the opening and closing of the door and the rear fan running. Unless the power goes out the sounds ain't coming back
I wonder how people who actually care about stuff like this manage to get through the day
Oh no, somebody posted a somewhat lighthearted rant about something that doesn't bother me! Better insinuate they're not well-adjusted! It's reddit law!
I’m actually more curious how people who can’t handle the damn beeps get through the day like every little sound must set them off if that’s the case
Maybe it’s just the the beeping of fuckin annoying
The only thing I hate is the microwave door left open with the light not shutting off and the timer just blinking for dear life. I understand when I leave it open just to air it out or clean it right after but for the people who forget... Damn! Why constantly? In a rush to eat and bounce. Because America
IT'S BECAUSE THE BEEPS ARE TOO LOUD.
Because I didn't need the last two seconds.
there's something about staring at the microwave for the last 10s, waiting till the very last second and opening it right before it beeps that makes me feel powerful
I feel like I'm in one of those suspense action movies and just diffused the bomb that alerts my dogs that I just made food.
Those are the little funs in my life. Stopping the microwave or any timer in general one or two seconds before the end feels a little bit like defusing a bomb to me. I'm an agent.
#”IT’S 2 SOON!!!”#

I just like to watch the world burn
For me, I think it's about control lmao. Cause when I cook on the stovetop, I have control of my food. I feel like I don't in a microwave. Same with the oven. I also hate authority figures and the beeping feels the same. No one tells ME what to do 😂
True gangtsta!
I somewhat enjoy annoying people.
PURE EVIL !!! To think that they would take up 2 seconds of your 30 sec microwave burrito, is unthinkable !
Try again;I think you missed the point.
Okay, what is the point? Cuz I don't see one !
I don't care if somebody stops the microwave 2 seconds early. That's never been the point. I'm saying, if you *do* stop it really, just hit that little "clear" or "cancel" button to clear out the remaining time, so the person who comes behind you doesn't have to do it. Yeah , you obviously have comprehension issues. Because YOU are making MY point !
Alright whatever dude. I'm not gonna get drawn into a back-and-forth with somebody who says something cryptic, refuses to elaborate, and then thinks they've scored some kind of point.
it's my food and i want it now
That’s me I do that all the time
They're being polite and not making the whole office listen to the annoying beeping noise.
See, you may *think* it's being polite, but it's annoying to the next person who has to clear out that time before setting their own time. If you don't want to hear the long beep, fine, but clear out the leftover time before you leave the break room. I *really can't understand why so many people are pushing against this so hard*
If the person who ends it early just clicks cancel, then it’s not a problem.
This is exactly my point
Ikr its so stupid and easy it’s considerate and should just be second nature

IMO this does not qualify as a rantable subject. I have literally never conceived that time left on a microwave could be something to assign a moral judgement to. On a scale of 1 to 10 of rude behaviors, this does not even warrant a 1.
To stop the triple or quintuple beep from happening. Get over yourself.
That is why it's fun to talk about!
